1Footwear designer Vince Camuto died of Cancer at his home in Greenwich, on Wednesday. The 78 years old was very well respected in the fashion industry and launched some successful shoe brands, one of them being Nine West, founded with Jerome Fischer in 1978. The duo took Nine West public in 1993 and sold it for about $900 million in 1999.

In recent years, he has expanded dramatically and built a multibillion-dollar empire consisting of a number of brands across a wide range of categories, as well as his own concept stores. In 2001, Camuto got back in the footwear business and founded the Camuto Group, which started designing and producing exclusive lines.

One of his most notable business relationships was with Jessica Simpson, Camuto teamed up with the star in 2005 to help her build her now $1 billion clothing brand, The Jessica Simpson Collection. She took to instagram to mourn his death, by sharing a photo with the late co-founder of Nine West along with a quote from Camuto himself. “‘It is never about one person,'” the multi-hyphenate reflected. “‘It’s the teams you put in place. Without the right people, you’re nowhere’ -Vince Camuto.
 

1Gucci and Kering announced the appointment of Alessandro Michele as Gucci’s new Creative Director with total creative responsibility for all of Gucci’s collections and its brand image. Alessandro’s first collection in his new role will be for Women’s ready-to-wear for Autumn/Winter 2015-16 to be presented on 25 February, in Milan.

Born in Rome in 1972, Alessandro studied at the prestigious Academy of Costume & Fashion in Rome. He forged his early design career inside Fendi where he was Senior Accessories Designer. A rising talent, he was tapped by Tom Ford in 2002 and moved to Gucci’s London-based Design Office.

Over his 12-year tenure inside the Gucci design studio, Alessandro held a variety of roles. In 2006 he was named Leather Goods Design Director and promoted in May 2011 as Associate to then Creative Director Frida Giannini.  Passionate about interiors and décor, Alessandro in September 2014 took on the additional role of Creative Director of Richard Ginori—the fine Florentine porcelain brand acquired by Gucci in June 2013. He immediately reimagined the product offering and branding of the 280-year-old brand, repositioning it for the luxury market with new collections and a new store design template.

Alessandro Michele, 42, studied at Accademia di Costume e di Moda in Rome and joined Fendi as Senior Accessories Designer. He moved to Gucci’s Design Office in 2002, assuming growing responsibilities within the Creative Department until he was promoted to the role of Associate to the Creative Director Frida Giannini in May 2011. In September 2014, he took on the additional responsibility as Creative Director of Richard Ginori, the renowned Italian fine porcelain brand that Gucci acquired in June 2013.

Commenting on the appointment, Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci, said: “After a considered and thorough selection process, Alessandro Michele has been chosen to assume the role as Gucci Creative Director, based upon the contemporary vision he has articulated for the brand that he will now bring to life. Alessandro and I are fully aligned on this new contemporary vision needed by the brand and we will be continuously inspired by that new identity in our respective roles and duties.”

downloadOn March 31st, 2015 CHANEL will head to New York to present the Paris-Salzburg 2014/15Métiers d’art collection that was first showcased last December in Salzburg, Austria.

Since 2000, CHANEL’s cruise collections have been exploring the world – from Paris to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Venice, Saint-Tropez, Cap d’Antibes, Versailles, Singapore and Dubai – the House’s annual Cruise collection will be unveiled in Seoul, Korea at the DDP on Monday, May 4th, 2015.

The year will close with the Métiers d’art show that will be presented in Rome on December 1st, 2015.

1The animal rights group has voiced its disapproval for Kim Kardashian’s fur bikini. Kim West shared images from her Instagram account posing in the snow wearing what she captioned a ‘furkini’ and ‘boots with the fur,’ putting her in the hotspot with animal rights people.

Whilst it is not confirmed whether the bikini and boots are real or faux fur, animal rights organisation Peta were quick to condemn the images tweeting from its social media account:”Sad someone so beautiful chooses to create such an ugly legacy” – Peta SVP Dan Mathews.
