Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute gala, ‘Met Gala 2014’ proved to be fashion’s most glamorous night and the fanciest red carpet of the year.

An event where celebrities dressed up artistically, Met Gala 2014 had the dress code of  a white tie and clothes that were inspired by the revolutionary American designer, Charles James.

It also featured an army of heavy hitters in the fashion world, including Ralph Lauren, Donatella Versace, Mr. de la Renta and Raf Simons. The spring Ungaro collection, available now at Barneys, is an exuberant expression of polka dots and ruffles with pencil skirts, knitwear and crystal-encrusted bustier tops.

On the Earth Day this year, the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology celebrated the extraordinary and sustaining work of the Textile Development and Marketing seniors Caitlin Powell ’14, Amber Harkonen ’14, and Meghan Navoy ’14, on their concept for the FIT Rooftop Natural Dye Garden.

Underscoring the Institute’s commitment to sustainability, the proposal was selected for the 2014 Clinton Global Initiative University and addressed global challenges to sustainability. Furthermore, for an efficient growth of the project, the graduates of 2014 donated their respective 2014 FIT Class Gifts, as part of the I Chose FIT campaign.

Along with keeping up with FIT’s generosity, the garden will be the gift that keeps giving, where future generations of students will be able to gain hands-on learning as it also helps sustain the Earth.

 

This designer grew up making paper dolls with Origami and dressing them up with cut-outs. Navigated by the career choices of her father, she joined the National Institute of Fashion Technology. Under her eponymous label, she launched her prêt fashion studio titled ‘French Curve’ in 2005, which is replete of western wear, Indian traditional wear and bespoke bridal wear.

Whereas, the third part titled ‘Gravity’ was created using Kinetic motion sensors which were wired on the entire floor. It created a space where the audience could perform a digital dance with the screen.

Expanding and diversifying the various dimensions of art, the exclusive exhibition will continue to tour internationally in 2014.
