For years, the fashion industry has been known for offering a helping hand to the underprivileged and the needy. This year, on the 21st of March, the ninth anniversary of  the International Down Syndrome Day, designer Manali Jagtap grants a yet another generous tribute to the Parents of Down’s syndrome Association, by organising a unique event on the 11th Rang Birangi Shyam at the ‘UMEED’ foundation initiative.

‘Umeed’ is a charitable trust which has Manali’s mother, Tejaswini Jagtap as its president. The mother-daughter duo in collaboration took this philanthropic step to help the parents of Down syndrome.

The evening was replete of various dance performances and other entertaining acts followed by a fashion show, exclusively organised by Manali, comprising of her creations curated especially for the kids. Further charm to the evening was bought by the presence of the Bollywood actress ‘Aarti Chabria’ as Manali’s show stopper.

The list of guests included the likes of Amole Gupte and other people associated with the entertainment industry. The event was an extremely thoughtful and kind gesture on the part of Manali Jagtap. It was an aristocratic way of bringing forward effectively, the voice of the Down syndrome affected children, and the people working for them, to the rest of the world.

Singer and Fashionista Anushka Manchanda a vivacious trend setter was recently spotted in a Veda Raheja creation. She was seen in a monochrome crop top and palazzo pants with a pop of bright pink that was part of Veda’s latest Spring Summer 14 collection showcased at Lakme Fashion Week. Anushka accessorized the edgy look with a stark black cuff, neon pink lips and a messy hairdo.

Rooted in her aesthetic, most inspired in her sensibility, effortless infuser, Urvashi Kaur, presents Shunya for Wills India Fashion Week AW 14.. Fabrics flow where the mind doesn’t, and structure persists where rules elude.  The living being is limited in movement, but limitless in thought. Shunya reverberates that reality, that attempt to capture in physical form, says, Urvashi.

The obvious dominance of ecru across the line is reminiscent of the start of the human journey in fuchsia, oranges and aurora red, blended effortlessly with natural whites. With an affinity for indigenous, hand-woven textiles, the usage of silk weaves like Maheshwaris, Chanderi, Tassar, Tissue, Matka, Kota and, Khadi cotton, in subtle metallic blends, juxtaposed with sheer, translucent voiles and linens.

The entire collection incorporates hand tucking, subtle ruching and dramatic pleats, alongside separates with asymmetric folds and hemlines, Angrakha inspired tunics, cowelled shalwars, pleated and flared pants, along with layered, reversible sheer jackets and crop topsare the mainstay of the collection.

Archana believes in experimentations and random imaginations that result in obscure designs. A collection inspired by floral techniques and delicate layered 3D florals made out of sheer fabrics, Archana aspires to showcase the extremely diverse yet synchronised items among different families through the same.

The designer will give the onlookers the mind blowing experience of beauty within these abstract and abruptly conceived creativities.

The iconic designer, Nirav Modi marks his breath-taking entry in the capital by launching his flagship boutique in South Delhi’s Defence Colony. Over the years, his label has received astonishing feedbacks at both the national and the international fronts, and now it enters the capital to introduce a new outlet to experience jewellery in the realms of luxury.

The launch was comprised of a ramp walk by the leading models belonging to diverse age groups, each showcasing an exhilarating piece of Nirav Modi jewellery. The age group factor that Nirav emphasised was to represent the authenticity of these treasures that accompany women throughout their lives. Furthermore, the boutique itself was designed artistically, drawing inspiration from Nirav’s personal design aesthetic and his passion for iconic art.

This designer duo has been popular for cherishing the traditional vocabulary through their creativities, and will exhibit the same through their collection, ‘Urban Shikar’ at the upcoming Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week on the 28th of March. Aptly titled, the collection will be infinitely inspired by Khaki, with its references to safari, uniforms and combat.

Abraham and Thakore in collaboration with Twinings present their show, where wild silk will provide the canvas for each single garment. Among other fabrics, tussar, muga, eri silk will be employed, in an attempt to explore diverse techniques from multiple regions.

In an attempt to prevent the much practiced custom of child marriage in India, NGO ‘Child Survival India’ propagates and promotes a ‘white bindi’ as a symbol of protest against child marriage. Celebrated designer Tarun Tahiliani grants his generous support for the cause by gracing each of his models with a ‘white bindi’, in his show during the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014.

Traditionally, a bindi is believed to protect a woman from demons. Representing the same, Child Survival India’s ‘No Child Bride’ initiative aims at raising and supporting the cause by the simple use of a ‘white bindi’. However, Tarun’s support and encouragement served as an awareness campaign, invoking a great amount of curiosity and empathy among the media and the onlookers of the Lakme Fashion Week.

Forthwith, the ‘white bindi’ gradually advances towards becoming a trend with the NGO’s on ground activations at the Kala Godha Festival, Mumbai and Cyber Hub, Gurgaon. With an equal amount of support and enthusiasm, the country’s youth support the cause as one witnesses the ‘white bindi trend’ becoming the latest style statement among the students in the leading colleges of Delhi and Mumbai.

Renowned accessory designer, and now a recognised polo player Rina Shah marks the majestic win of her polo team ‘Rinaldi Polo’ against team Elementto on the 21st of March.  Held at the Royal Salute, the epitome of the country’s cultural heritage and luxury, the Amateur Riders’ Club exhibition match was chief guested by Raj Kundra and Harman Baweja.

Having launched her accessory label ‘Rinaldi’ in 1999, Rina now purports to organise a full-fledged Polo team, ‘Rinaldi Polo’ to be recognised in the country and the entire world, among the fashion and the sports arena. One of India’s only female polo players, Rina’s team consisted of India’s ace polo players like Samir Suhag, LT Gen Arun Kumar Sahni, Jogi Shekhawat and Simran Shergil to name a few.

The onlookers of the exhilarating match included the likes of Bunty Walia, Shamita Shetty, Vikram Bawa, Milan Luthria and Raj Shroff among others.

Nikita, the winner from India created the desired garment ideal for a traveller and won exciting prizes along with a 2 nights, 3 days stay at Crowne Plaza, Bangkok and an exuberant career boosting internship with the leading designer Payal Jain.

Therefore, the competition is a unique and distinctive way of promoting the policy of the hotel and is an efficient platform for the struggling designers to showcase their creativity at an earlier stage. It serves to be a boosting element for their aspirations to become successful professionals in the future.
