Gucci
La Biennale di Venezia, a contemporary art exhibition, in association with Gucci, announced the launch of Biennale College – Cinema, of late.
The project and the launch of the International Call for Proposals of the Biennale College – Cinema, an advanced workshop for training, research and experimentation for the development and production of micro-budget audio-visual works, open to emerging directors and producers from around the world – was presented at Palazzo del Casino, Venice.
The project intends to select filmmakers from all around the world, to work beside an international team of experts and tutors to explore the aesthetics of micro-budget films and new integrated production models. Following an initial 10-day workshop in Venice for 15 projects selected in January 2013, up to 3 teams will be invited to participate in a second fifteen-day workshop between the months of February and March, and will be given a grant of 150,000 euro to produce and present the finished project at the 70th Venice International Film Festival 2013.
About the project, Patrizio di Marco, President and CEO of Gucci commented, “We are extremely pleased and honoured to extend our historical partnership with La Biennale di Venezia through this important new initiative. “Biennale College – Cinema” is an innovative and powerful project, which is very much in line with Gucci’s longstanding commitment to the preservation, promotion and celebration of the art of cinema, acknowledging the impact of motion pictures on the cultural and artistic legacies of current and future generations.”
Play Clan, a Kitschy Indian lifestyle brand recently collaborated with the Mehrangarh Museum Trust to create a collection titled, “Royal Jodhpur: A Journey in Drawings Jodhpur”.
The inspiration for the designs comes from the royal heritage of the city with its glorious Umaid Bhawan Palace; the charm of the courteous and elegant citizens of the city of Jodhpur and the blue houses with hues of indigo, cobalt, azure and lapis, that nestle around the stately and majestic Mehrangarh Fort; and the arts and crafts such as puppets that keep tradition and culture vibrantly alive.
The collection comprising of T-shirts for men, women and children uses the quirky signature Play Clan styles to illustrate the essence of the city. The collection will be available by the end of September 2012 at Umaid Bhawan Palace and the Mehrangarh Museum shop in Jodhpur, as well as the Play Clan shops across the country.
The Kitsch queen of India Nida Mahmood launched her Technicolor collection titled, “Bombay Bun Maska” in Mumbai, lately.
The collection came as tongue-in-cheek, flirty and vibrant range, paying tribute to the renegades and rebels of our brave new world with actress Kalki Koechlin turning out to be the muse of Nida, who designed her ensemble, comprising of a Boho chic dress with dramatic LED lit floral hair accessories.
On the launch of her collection, designer Nida Mahmood said, “Brave, experimental, adventurous – this collection is for the non-conformists who are making our world a more stylish place. This collection is inspired by the urban boho chic free spirited youth of today and it plays a lot with imagery. Some flowey and some structured silhouettes comprise the collection and you can see how some bright and some aged colors come together harmoniously."

Rina Dhaka revisited the Indian design iconography by turning past into present, rustic into chic and hand techniques into digital & presented her enriched Fall-Winter 2012 Collection at The Oberoi Hotel, New Delhi. Taking heritage forward and enriching it with her inimitable style and soft, sensual appeal. She travels through India, extensively using intricate tribal embroidery from the regions of Bhuj and some made in the heartland of Uttar Pradesh re arranging them in her New Delhi atelier. Tribal motifs and the vibrant mirror work of Bhuj get recreated in the form of prints as Rina superimposes them with a vintage looking lattice motif in sequin. Dreamy chiffons combine with cotton tulle, nets and satin to blend in fitted forms with controlled volume ended the evening with Sonal Chauhan as show stopper.
