Lately, India gained the recognition of being the only country in the world to launch ‘Indian Standards for Organic Textiles’ at the national level.

The certification standards were introduced in National Standards for Organic Production as part of the Foreign Trade Policy by Union Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textile Anand Sharma.

On the occasion an organic fashion show was also organized to showcase the products of artisans from the different parts of the country producing fabrics using organic fibers and dyes.

Previously, the certification standards for organic textiles were not a part of the certification process. The move made India took over the long-standing position of the Global Organic Textiles standards (GOTS), a private standards prevailing in the organic textiles industry.

As the stage is all set designer Sanchita Ajjampur belts out a repertoire of dark and delicate stories through her latest collection titled, ‘The Fire Bird’.

The designer has an exquisite range of womenswear and menswear, adorned with accessories on offer for the upcoming Winter Festive 2012 edition of Lakme fashion Week.

The womenswear exuding surrealism features linear shapes and restructured proportions in the form of kimono silhouettes, cinched waist dresses, asymmetrical poodle skirt interpretations, trapeze, drop-waist sack and flapper dresses.  Done in punchy hues of chalky lavender, grass green, blush nude and lemon, along with winter metallic, the collection uses fabrics like neoprene lurex, vintage jacquard, gold wash lace georgette, wispy chiffon and crepe de chine.

The highlights of the collection are delicate sheers embellished with exotic cut feather shapes, reflective blacks and golds and rigid plastics for a futuristic feel and muted jacquards with opaque and metallic embellishments. The range is completed by accessories like clutch purses and headgear. On the other hand, Sanchita’s menswear sees the iconography and mythology of the Wild West being explored through intense winter darks, Native American graphic influences and eclectic layering of unexpected fabrics, along with new proportions, staples fused with technical sport, lending an urban edge to the modern lounge wear.

The collection using fabrics like silk cotton, muslin, neoprene Lurex, matte parachute nylon, suede Nubuck leather, molleton jersey, twills and cotton jerseys, features bomber jackets, and deconstructed tailored suits, boxy t-shirts and classic shirts, wide legged and cropped pants and joggers pants.

The color palette is comprised of apricot, honeyberry, plum, black currant and cool blue. And complementing the menswear is an array of totes and satchels in printed canvas and dappled cow leather, embellished modern sandals, moccasins, belts and printed bandannas.

Chanel Couture Make-up FW12Though the Chanel’s Fall Winter 2012 Haute Couture show is a bygone affair (considering the transient nature of fashion) narrating a New Vintage fairytale but the make-up used to create the fairytale characters seems not fading away anytime soon.

The fairytale glamorous look invoking nostalgia comes packed with soft blushed pink cheeks, smoking shimmering eyes and dewy skin. The peachChanel Couture Make-up FW12 pink lips and traditional moon manicure done with modern twist complete the look.

The seductive Chanel haute couture nails feature two-toned classy do-it-yourself nail art. The look can be created by applying pink polish over a base of shimmery silver nail paint.

The nail beauty product brand, OPI catches on the trend of gilded manicures with a James Bond twist by coming up with a real 18K gold leaf-laden nail lacquer.

The limited edition polish named, ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ takes its inspiration from iconic character of James Bond, and comes packed in a gold lacquered bottle with a textured black cap.

The glitter-like nail polish with flakes of gold leaf will hit the beauty counters in October this year.

Designer
Monica is a textile designer graduated from IED, Rome. She have wored with several famous designers like Alessandro dell’aqua, Prada, Marni etc. In an exclusive interview with fashionfad Monice speaks about her long journey in the international fashion world.

Tell us something about yourself and your initial collaborations.

It’s a long time almost 20 years ago I completed my bachelors from IED, Rome and during those days very few fashion school exists.
I start my first collaboration with ‘Jenny’ during 1988; it was also a good learning experience for me as well. Later, I worked as a very close assistant to Alessandro Dell’acqua where I was in charge of trend and material research.

What is your major inspiration?
My inspiration keeps on changing as, fashion is never constant. But still I believe on taking experience from the past and making something new. Changes in the modern society put a lot of impact on fashion, so the designer’s job has to be very true and heart full. Also, working on the real shape of the women’s body; a blend between modernity and femininity.

How does your design lab functions?
It is a modern design studio with a very small team. I started with doing jewel and embroidery for Prada and from then on started to develop my Clientele. I work with a design strategy of ‘very fast life with couture style’, very elegance, sophisticated and precious; a work of true artisans.

What are your future projects and goal?
Well, right now I want to concentrate on the things that I am already doing. May be just to expand a little bit with the space of the collection. I believe in taking small steps and am in no hurry to take bigger risk or step.

The fashion legend of yesteryears who pervaded the trend of do-it-yourself, Diana Vreeland is the talk of the fashion circle again as new Atelier Swarovski collection has been developed in her honor.

The Diana Vreeland legacy collection introduced by her grandson, Alexander Vreeland captures the style and spirit of one of the greatest style arbiters of 20th century whose 50 year career brought a revolution in how fashion was styled at Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute.

A Tribute to Diana Vreeland

The collection reflects Vreeland’s philosophy that “the only real elegance is in the mind. If you’ve got that, the rest really comes with it”, with bold resin cuffs and rings, a crystal gilet and luxurious necklaces that fall like crystal rain, reflecting Vreeland’s love of colour, form and style.

The collection will be available in selected stores in September and online at www.atelierswarovski.com
