8 inches Skate MossFashion and sports though always had a connection but label DSQUARED2 has cited a bizarre trend statement with the launch of its Skate Moss, the 8 inches heeled ice skates. The sole of these high- heeled boots are made of rubber and have blades attached to it. The range includes four pairs of skating boots with high heels. An adoring fusion of laces and hooks along with laser-cut detailing blended in calf-skin leather contributes to this exquisite collection by the label. Although the boots center all the signature essence of the customary skates but reveals an exclusive high- ends approach.

Generally skates are constructed with very minimal height or are completely leveled to the ground because in case of ice skates the comfort zone is much prioritized than fashion. The boots are amazingly designed and engraved.  But the range by DSQUARED2 is absolutely uncanny which has never come into notice earlier. Skating already tends to be pretty hard-hitting while these boots might increase the rate of menace by causing injury. People with excellent skills might too lose control while enjoying the skating session.

The modern cosmetics and beauty related surgeries being glorified under the Hollywood banner earned quite a bad name this time when inferior silicone breast implants raised the serious health issue worldwide.

In a very recent development, the silicone gel implants made by a now defunct French company, Poly Implant Prosthese (PIP) have been found hazardous with a high rupture rate leading to the leak of cheap industrial grade silicone into the body, and possible linkage to cancer development.

Breast Implant Removal

With more than 1000 ruptures in France itself, French government offered to pay some 30,000 women to have their risky implants removed, sensing the mounting fears related to the issue in the public. Even of late concerned women marched in Paris demanding more attention to the issue. According to the estimates 300,000 women around the world have the same faulty implants.

Besides France other countries where implants were exported have shown the urgency over the issue. Germany has recommended women to consult their doctors about removal possibilities. Whereas Britain with 40,000 women on the radar said there is no need to worry as there no scientific evidence backs the findings.

Fashion DesigningFashion and art have this back scratching affair where each imbues the other. The fashion designers-donning-an-artist’s-hat is routinely but vice versa comes intriguingly. One of the latter kinds stunned the Capital and its art enthusiasts with his eccentric collection crafted intricately from everyday mundane objects.

The Delhi based artist Vivan Sundaram having played through different mediums like photography and sculpture came out with his latest project titled, ‘Gagawaka: Making Strange’ – a portmanteau of Lady Gaga and the FIFA World Cup Song ‘Waka Waka’ explores the idea of using all worldly things to make an object of art. Hence there is a wedding suit made of sanitary napkins, a dress made of paper cups, flowing gown of two hundred red bras, beautifully stitched with lace, a semi bandaged dress crafted out of a truck tyre tube with a long train et al.

A collection of 45 such sculptural garments made of the stuff like surgical gloves, kitchen sponge, eye masks, aluminum foil, wires, tubes, masks and many more such kind of items, in collaboration with fashion designer Pratima Pandey and few other NIFT graduates who helped the artist in detailing and fitting garments into human bodies.

The collection is priced between 4.5 lakhs to 7.5 lakhs and is on display till December 27 at Ravindra Bhavan Gallery at Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi.

Pria bags the Masala AwardThe Occidental Couture’ specialist designer Pria Kataaria Puri has been crowned with the International Designer of the Year award at the prestigious Masala Awards 2011 held in Dubai. The ceremony was hosted by the Ahlan Masala.

Pria’s collections are generally mused on the gypsies and Egyptian lavishness.  Embroidery and color is the mainstay of her collection. The designer is mostly celebrated for exquisite collection of sarees and Kaftans.

Pria who was overwhelmed as well as shocked at receiving the award said “I would like to thank the multicultural residents of Dubai & Masala Awards, Dubai for their continued support and appreciation of my work. Years ago when I had started to design, my goal was to take Indian fashion onto a global level. Being awarded with this international designer award means more than one could ever imagine”. The designer even added, “One person who is responsible for opening up new and various markets for me, especially in the Middle East, is my husband, Sumit, without whom I couldn’t have had the exposure and experience that has inspired my most successful work yet. So, thank you. I hope to continue pursuing my undeniable passion for fashion, and portraying high fashion as a fusion of many different cultures and ideas of the world combined. Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart”.

The British Army PoloBritish Polo Day India took place over the weekend this December at His Highness TheMaharaja Gaj Singh II Of Marwar-Jodhpur’s private polo pitch, to commemorate the heritage and history of the game of polo and the strong links between Britain and India, at Umaid Bhawan Palace.

The first polo match saw Eton College play Mayo College with the Indian team coming out victorious, winning 8 – 5.  Mayo College is known as the “Eton of India” and has a long friendship with its British counterpart.  It is a fixture steeped in history with eleven Viceroys of India being educated at Eton as well as five governor-generals and three high commissioners, and of course, His Highness The Maharaja Gaj Singh II Of Marwar-Jodhpur, as well as his son, Yuvraj Shivraj Singh of Jodhpur who had the distinction of attending both Mayo and Eton.  The princess Baiji Lal Sahiba Shivranjani  Rajye, hosted a spectacular party for the players in celebration.

The following day, the weekend of polo culminated with the Umaid Bhawan Palace Trophy and the British Army Polo team defeating the Royal Jodhpur Polo Team(the “Jodhpur Eagles”).   This was another historic fixture with the British Army having played in Jodhpur for over a century with famous individuals such as Sir Winston Churchill and Lord Louis Mountbatten.

Ofcourse, polo is synonymous with fashion and style and the weekend did not disappoint.  The British Polo Day India featured a fashion show by Beulah, the ethical British fashion label with links to India, not least because one of its founders, Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs is great-great-grand daughter of The Marquess of Reading, Viceroy of India (1921 –1926).
