You remember the last time, being all zeroed in that romantic ruffle of pages, while sipping the freshly brewed coffee in that elevated cozy café settings, a palpable waft casting a spell? So intense, that you cuddle yourself and get swayed away in the sillage. Sighs! Olfactory and tantalization are inseparable.

Well, if you are one who loves to pull the strings to only drop then all you need is a right fragrance, not to mention some grey cells driven by a sadistic urge. It’s a proven fact that memory, sex and scent are activated by the same part of the brain. A good fragrance is the most subtle yet an intelligent way to leave an imprint, mind you an indelible one, tickling a hormonal collision.

So while buying a perfume look for its persistence on skin and property to diffuse properly. Let it rest on your wrist for a day, or wrists to compare the two, and you will nose the better one obviously. Or, lend your nose to this fall/winter 2011, along with all- time favourite list of fragrances, to go lithe like a seducer.

Chanel, CK One, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier

Coco Chanel once famously said that women who don’t wear perfumes have no future. And this fall we here her words quite seriously. In fact go all basked in cachet and nostalgia in Chanel No. 5 itself, the bed time favourite of Marilyn Monroe. Launched in 1919 by Coco Chanel, packed in a dainty yellow bottle is one of the classic which never goes out of the style. If woody notes don’t please your senses then ‘For Her in Color’ by Narciso Rodriguez, a liquid glamour packed with midnight fruits is there in its sensual best to provoke your man in his undies.

Armani Jo Malone's wild Bluebell Bulgari Narciso

Well if you are more of a ladylike then Jo Malone’s Wild Bluebell cologne with its authentically English aesthetics is all concocted of lily of valley, English bluebell, amber and musk to jazz up your femininity. And bit contrarily, the supple notes of Bulgari’s Jasmin Noir L’Essence with elements like pink peppercorn, jasmine and almond are meant to render that intensity to your aura with its dense woody charm.

For bold ladies quite accustomed of wending their way with glowering eyes there is Balenciaga L’Essence, an intense attention getting scent with mossy finish besides having ingredients like vetiver and violet. Moreover, there are some iconic perfumes which never go out of style and come with an assurance of unparalleled ‘notice-me’ stares. Jean Paul Gaultier Classique with its famous curved bottle is one of such iconic scents having vanilla, an ultimate aphrodisiac.

Giorgio Armani Acqua Di, Christan Dior, Gueriain Vetiver

Now if perfume can make a Cleopatra out of a woman, then it’s as effective in morphing the men into Casanovas. Though men’s olfactory domain is not as eclectic as women have their but the beautiful fragrances waft purposefully for sensual delight here either. Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani with its light, quiescent aquatic smell is one such scent. As men have been comparatively more loyal to brands, so undoubtedly this fragrance which was launched way back in 1996 is still the best selling one across the world since a decade. Another classic highlighting the back of retro fragrances in modern men’s perfume wardrobe is Christian Dior Eau Savage, containing Jasmine, introduced way back in 1966. And Guerlian Vetiver, based on the aromatic grass, all launched in 1961 is there to bring the hippie days back.

Bleu de chanel CK be Burberry Sport

Besides Burberry Sport with its English delight is a scent with classic aromas of musk and wood, which surprisingly work in harmony to balance the uplifting lighter notes of ginger and grapefruit citrus. For modern times Calvin Klein Be with its sporty black bottle is the ultimate step to that intensified aura which completes a man.

Asian Luxury MarketNow when Christmas merriment and associated shopping spree is fuelling positive sentiments across the stumbling economy worldwide, there comes an Asian booster from a PricewaterhouseCoopers report underlining the importance of Asia to the global luxury market, and the role that emerging economies like China, India and Vietnam are playing in buoying major luxury brands.

The report highlights that with Europe facing a protracted economic and financial crisis, and the US economy expected to remain sluggish in 2012, luxury brands are expected to keep their broader focus on the Asia-Pacific region in the year ahead. It accentuates the fact that the new opportunities in segments like e-commerce and in smaller, second and third tier cities will see luxury sales continue to climb in Asia.

Suggestively, the demand of luxury goods will remain buoyant in 2012 with foreign brands increasingly targeting the casual and sportswear market. Moreover the online retailing is expected to see a phenomenal growth, with local retailers maintaining their growth. Online sales are expected to grow by 20% a year in Asia in the near term and by as much as 40% annually in some markets such as Japan.

The report suggests that the growing access in currently under penetrated markets like India will support the rapid growth overall while online retail markets in already well connected countries like Taiwan and Japan will continue to expand as well. Pure play online retailers, both local and foreign will attempt to expand rapidly, with local firms seeming to have an edge.

Asian Luxury Market

Considering the massive demand seen in the region, led by emerging economies and the newly wealthy in China, India and now Vietnam, luxury brands like Prada, Diane Von Furstenberg, Vivienne Westwood and Michael Kors have already come up with their stores. With worldwide luxury sales expected to grow by 8 % this year to US $ 249.3 billion, the report believes that US will remain the world’s largest luxury market in 2011 whereas Indian and Chinese markets have been forecasted to grow with 9.5% and 7.9 % respectively in 2011, as by quarter ending on April 1,  2012.

The powerhouse of Asian luxury market China, along with India are also expected to churn the luxury sales in Europe and US as well, as their citizens travel offshores for bargains, mainly due to high taxes on luxury goods, and spend six times more than when they stay at home. According to one such report by World Luxury Association, overseas buying by Chinese still accounts for 56% of total luxury consumption in the country.
