From being a casual outfit for perhaps an outing at the beach, shorts have made their way into our wardrobes for work wear and elegant soirees. Tailored shorts are this season’s most elegant wardrobe must-have. And the credit sure goes to the weather. There is so much uncertainty these days that whether the sun will shine bright or it will pour down heavily upon us, the best thing to do is to shrink those hemlines.

We know that when we say shorts some of you must be thinking that can anyone over the age of eighteen work this outfit! And the answer is yes, you can. Shorts have certainly made a comeback in our wardrobes this season, and with the varying lengths and styles available, one need not be afraid to flaunt them. And when we mean shorts we absolutely do not mean the teeny weeny ones, but the ones with an appropriate length for every occasion – shopping, a day at work or a party!

Tailored shorts have shown their versatility, moving swiftly between warm and chilly seasons. Whether short and light and worn with bare-legs, or cozy, heavy tweed worn with opaque tights… tailored shorts are a definitely a trend. The designer options that are available in the market too are elegant and versatile.

And since all the attention will be on your legs, we recommend some easy and workable options for all occasions.

TAILORED SHORTS FOR WORKPLACE: Formal shorts, unless knee length, are not appropriate for work. Unless you work in the fashion industry or are a hostess at one of the restaurants, save your formal shorts for evenings or weekend getaways –they are way too short to be taken seriously by your superiors dahling! We suggest get knee-length tailored shorts in dark colours like navy-blue, beige, black and tuck in a crisp shirt or a satin blouse. To make your look more work appropriate you can wear a cropped coat or even a boyfriend blazer. Tailored short-suits are also a great option. And if you want to add a pinch of glamour wear long chains or a bib necklace. Don’t forget, shoes complete every outfit, and in this case opt for oxfords and brogues.

TAILORED SHORTS FOR A SHOPPING TRIP WITH YOUR GALS: So its weekend and you and your girls wanna go take a trip to the mall. It is very essential to slip into something comfortable to make the whole shopping experience more enjoyable. And what better than the hassle-free shorts. So as we mentioned work shorts have to be knee-length but hey we can work them even for a day out! You can wear your knee-length tailored shorts or even the ones a few inches above the knees with a tank top, ganji, etc. Wear a lot of chunky jewellery for a more casual appeal as tailored shorts tend to look very formal, and wear slippers or gladiator sandals with it. All of this and a li’l make up, and you are good to go.

TAILORED SHORTS FOR A NIGHT OUT: What do you get when you plan a night out and bring in some sassy shorts? A lethal combination! Yes you can play up this look however you want and you can go down the classic look as well. For a night out try and pick shorts that are made from light and breezy fabrics like satin, sand silk, etc. You can pair your shorts with ruffle tops, a satin blouse, a layered top… whichever way you like it. Slip on some stylish heels, add accessories that work with the kind of outfit you are wearing and a clutch, and wallah, there’s no stopping you girl.

All ye girls put your recently acquired knowledge to some good news and you will definitely score high on the style-o-metre.

Janavi’s creative journey began in 1998, when founder Jyotika Jhalani saw an opportunity to harness the most evocative traits of Indian craftsmanship to create innovative products for a highly discerning client base. A head injury marked the end of a 10-year-long career at the World Bank, but it was only the beginning of a new entrepreneurial venture; what started off with a few international exhibitions has resulted in a full-fledged company that designs cashmere wraps for the biggest names in fashion, including Burberry, Dior, Hermès and Fendi.

Hailing from Kashmir with a refined sense of aesthetics Jyotika offers the finest range of handcrafted shawls, wraps, blankets, throws, travel sets, and a limited edition of knitted garments using unusual weaves. Employing techniques ranging from hand and digital printing to traditional embroidering and embellishing using crystals, semi-precious stones and lace, these cashmere treasures are perfect for everyday use.

Working closely with Master Craftsmen, guided ably by a strong Design Team, each piece is created with utmost care and a diligent eye, imparting a unique distinction to be enjoyed by a true connoisseur. Apart from shawls and stoles the designer also houses cashmere blankets, knitted garments and a line of evening bags, apart from a range of couture fabrics as a result of their collaboration with the iconic Swiss textile house Jakob Schlaepfer.

Janavi has a global presence with the launched of its flagship store at the Emporio Mall, New Delhi. Currently, she has representative offices in London, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York, LA and Dubai. Janavi products are also available at Mumbai International Airport through the exclusive store Lotus House and through Jai at Jaipur.
