Amit GT would be showing his PreSpring Summer 2012 collection at the prestigious Saatchi Gallery in London. An art meet fashion event for trend defining designers and luxury brands to the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Kenzo, Pucci, Valentino, Givenchy would also be  showing alongside from August 7- 9 2011.

Talking about the collection Amit GT said, the biggest challenge in designing this collection was to how I could use my recent love affair with minimal chic in myriad ways to suit different moods and occassions. The colours best describe their mood from nudes to lime greens to desert gold to greys and blacks.

"I wanted to create eclectic wardrobe so that they don’t have to follow same look each day. There are prints in the collection that were inspired by exotic flora and fauna or there are hand-painted intriguing prints or abstracts that take you on a galactic trail but all of them have a sense of escapism". The art of folding was the highlight of this minimal collection. Origami is reinterpreted that ergonomically morphed the shapes and is used to break the conventions of tailoring”, he went on.

Known for his exquisite silhouettes, styling and innovative use of fabrics, renowned fashion designer, Wendell Rodricks is all set to charm the fashion world with his ‘Himalayan Live Natural’ collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2011. The much-celebrated designer will present an exclusive organic collection inspired by water and one of its natural sources, the Himalayan range.

Made with natural and organic materials, his creations will draw from the explosion of life and motion that denotes water. Speaking about his collection, Wendell Rodricks said, “Water for me not only symbolizes life but also home. Its motions and stillness have never ceased to inspire me. While the ocean has played an important part in my earlier collections, this time I am drawing inspiration from another source of water, the majestic Himalayan range”.

Ace fashion designer Manav Gangwani has launched his new store and unveiled his latest collection in the plush Emporio mall, New Delhi.

The store also has a private ‘timeless’ section where the designer meets customers by appointments only.

The theme for this boutique has been chosen keeping in mind a contemporary yet classic form. Inspired by grottos, a dramatic cave like space has been created. The architectural expression is theatrical rather than just being a decorative experience. Swarovski elements have always been an integral part of Manav Gangwani’s iconic couture pieces and this passion also finds expression in the installation titled as ‘social butterfly’.

There is sense of discovery in the store, from the outside, one sees a row of mannequins reminiscent of a ramp but the garments reveal themselves only once the customer enters and explores the store. The material palettes consists of intersecting vaults finished in white plaster with mirror polished chrome racks set into a raw shell of stained distressed brick walls and a stained polished concrete floor. The luxurious furniture has been brought exclusively from ‘the charcoal project’, Mumbai by Mrs. Sussanne Roshan and Andrew Martin.

‘The idea behind having this store was to let my clients have an exceptional omnibus of styles that are breath taking and timeless, enhanced with the interesting shop ambience,’ says Manav.

Evoluzione, a fashion movement associated with the biggest names in Indian fashion, has been nurtured with passion by Tina and Atul Malhotra for over a decade. It has evolved into a byword for the most exquisite in fashion and style in Chennai and Bangalore.

During the couture week in the capital, Evoluzione – Kila opened its doors in New Delhi on the 25th of July 2011. The new space houses leading and upcoming designers and marks a significant milestone in the history of most recognized curators of design in India.

Designed by Chennai’s Vikram Phadke of Interspace Inc. in collaboration with Illum Design Project New Delhi, the store retains the original façade of the building while the interior is interplay of minimal and ornate.

Luxurious displays, fashion installations, highly selective merchandize, uncompromised quality and high standards of service build a luxe atmosphere. This can become a completely bespoke experience with an appointment-only personal styling consultation in a private chamber.

Showcasing the best of India’s design talent, Evoluzione Kila will house the likes of Anamika Khanna, Abraham & Thakore, Rohit Bal, Rohit Gandhi Rahul Khanna, Gaurav Gupta, Gauri Nainika, Kotwara, Manish Arora, Manish Malhotra, Rajesh and Payal Pratap Singh and Varun Bahl to name a few; along with accessories by Malaga, Meera Mahadevia and Suhani Pittie and lots more.

Obviously couture is all about the clothes. However, many designers also get pretty fanciful with hair and makeup, too, which makes the whole package really fun to watch. The bling land pops up once in a year, and the dazzle is uncanny. From the glittering ramps to bejeweled beings and glowing hearts, the second edition of Synergy 1 Delhi Couture Week 2011 traversed a glitzy journey of high fashion, cruising through troubled waters to the land of mystique.

Twelve flourished couturiers along with a brigade of tall and slender seductresses invoked Dionysus, and the four days of revelry whispered the tales of seduction, Indian royalty and French luxury; evoked nostalgia; hailed photography; called for inner peace. The ornate backdrops and rich elaborately done sets, sometime adorned with the revolving wheels of time and the other with the flowers, stuffed animal figurines, bells and Victorian antiques, the progressing shows kept infusing drama and life galore on the ramp whereas the click frenzied photographers, sniggering critics, scoop hungry journos, business sniffers, conscious cross-legged-twiddling-with-hair fashion enthusiasts and muttons-dressed-as-lambs socialites, retained pizzazz off the ramp.

Bellwether-ed by Mr. Sunil Sethi (undoubtedly, titanium toed), and his Harvard-ly management, the couture week was in its grander, better and more glamorous avatar this time. Enticingly flavoring the confection of couture were the royal halls of The Taj Palace; dim yellow lights, hard-to-budge ornate doors, dangling chandeliers, candle beds and torches on the walls. Though jinxed by front row brawls and thus grudges, less-seats-more-to-accommodate issues, delayed shows and bridal versus couture debate; spare Anju Modi Ashima-Leena heated verbal volleys, but all in all nothing seemed undermining the motive of this luxury stirring jamboree.

Couture as being synonymous with extravagance and glamour, the Bollywood expectedly landed on with its array of juvenile young and faded to falling stars, stoking excitement and buzz throughout the four days. Madhuri Dixit graced front row for Varun Bahl whereas Sonam Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha strutted for Manish Malhotra and Shantanu & Nikhil, respectively. Designer Manav Gangwani encrusted blinding bling on and off the ramp with Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan, Soha Ali Khan and Dino Morea along with dozen others occupying an entire row.  The Couture-cum-Bollywood festivities finally concluded with Arjun Rampal walking for Rohit Bal.

Unlike last year, couture week this time was more versatile and eclectic with the designers putting forth their best in terms of creativity, distinctness and drama. With the designers poetically expressing their love for Swarovski Elements and economically for bridal wear, the couture week as a whole turned out to be a fruitful affaire, serving delicacies for every taste. Structured gowns in western silhouettes strutted with very Indian heavily embellished and embroidered lehangas, and flowing anarkalis while mingling umpteen influences and traditions, making whole week a melting pot of cultures Palazzo pants, puffed shoulders, embroidered hems and embellished bodices appeared frequently on the ramp. Dramatic big headgears, formidable heavy make-up and loads of accessories glaringly inspired gape and justified the couture. Rohit Bal culminated the four days of sartorial celebrations with breath bating ensembles along with the sprinkle of fragrant flowers bidding adieu to fashion lovers to appear again after a year with new hopes and surprises.
