Designers tell us why the cool shade is the hottest thing this season

The colour palette changes every season when it comes to fashion, and the tinseltown’s stars and socialites definitely lead the way. This party season, blue is definitely the colour of choice.

“The colour suits the Indian skin making blue party dresses a big hit this time around. Light blue was a hit in the 80s and it is again coming back. And of course, denim is eternally popular. In fact, you will see me in light denim blue at many parties. I feel I look good in the shade, so I am wearing it often myself,” says designer Pria Kataria Puri.

Irrespective of whether blue is the new black, (or new white), designer Narendra Kumar admits that it is the colour of choice, especially because, “one person makes a fashion statement, another imitates it and you have a trend!” he says. “This season, people are wearing a deeper richer tone of blue, because it suits the mood of celebration all this time. All shades of blue go well with Indian skin. It is a part of the palette,” adds Nari.

From casual chic to elaborate party wear, blue is definitely in, says designer Nikasha Tawadey. “It’s psychological that in the summer people prefer lighter shades and blue definitely works,” she says.

And the colour even seems to be an all-time favourite for many. Designer Savio Jon also chooses the colour on the personal front. “I am wearing a lot of blue jeans these days,” he smiles, “A lot of us would love to flaunt our blue dresses this season.” And just to prove it’s not all the ladies, Salman Khan joins the fray too!

Ironically, where the world is busy decoding slutwalk, Iran’s sophists have strutted on the puritanical nun-walk enforcing the dress code down the throats of Iranian civilians.

Led by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the nationwide doctrine has been issued against men wearing necklaces, shorts and glamorous hairstyles. Tagged as ‘un-Islamic’, such styles are the senseless imitation of Western culture according to the ideology of Iran’s religious and social caretaker. Women too are supposed to dress and deport themselves in constriction of head to toe covering hijabs. The ‘moral security plan’ of the regime detests the women wearing loose-fitting headscarves, tight overcoats and shortened trousers that expose skin.

For complete execution of the plan 70,000 trained forces known as ‘moral police’ have been deployed on the streets of Tehran and other cities to fine or arrest the offenders. The new plan to control the society by the hardliners actually came forth after the Iranian Parliament proposed the bill to criminalize the dog ownership, stating it a blind imitation of the vulgar culture of the West.

Dare you whisper of slutwalk in Iran, guillotine knives take a second to fall.
