For years women have raided their man’s wardrobe and hell… they have worn it better. From boyfriend jeans and jackets to oxfords and brogues, they all look so better on women, don’t you think? And now it seems that bow ties have caught their fancy.

The shiny black bow ties to go with that suave tux are no longer reserved for men. Over the years we have seen designers demonstrate on the runways that what used to be considered “men’s fashion” is quickly becoming a chic fashion statement for women as well.  Like for instance, the uber masculine tuxedo has been adapted as staple fashionable work wear clothing for women. These ‘tux-inspired’ suits are more often spotted on women than men these days.

But the bow ties that had made an exit from men’s clothing long ago has come back in vogue only to be seen in a more cute avatar on women! And, as much as we love androgynous fashion, we welcome the opportunity for the bow tie to get a refresh with something whimsical that sits independent of any gender. What’s more – you can take cues from famous celebrities to work this style. Marlene Dietrich has sported a bow tie, so has Rihanna and plenty of other celebrities in between. But we know what’s bothering you… can an average girl pull off a bow tie without looking like somebody who is caught in the 1920s. Fashionfads answer – sure you can girl! With these few simple looks listed below you can totally work that cute bow around your neck.

BOW TIE – ANYWHERE ANYTIME! Many believe that bow ties are just meant to accompany your formal outfits but with the right attitude, these fashionable bow ties can be worn anywhere and anytime. Bow ties are never boring and there is no end to the creative, fashionable looks you can come up with when you wear them. It’s time to let your creative side take over.

FOR A CASUAL LOOK:  One of the easiest ways to wear a bow tie without going wrong is to team it with a casual outfit. Oversized bow ties are very chic and stylish, and they are the key to get that casual look right. If the bow tie is slightly bigger than the standard size, then it will pull all the attention towards your new found love. And if you want to look like a star, you can recreate one of their fave looks that is to pair the bow tie with a cardigan and a pair of jeans. Or try wearing a bowtie with a sweater vest or a pullover sweater, or just a simple button-up shirt. This casual look is so incredible and classy that people will do double takes when they walk right by you.

FOR A DRESSY LOOK: Oversized bow ties are also the perfect option for dressy outfits in addition to casual ones, helping you to add the finishing touch for an elegant soiree or a formal dinner. You can try pairing an oversized bowtie with a simple, sleek suit or the traditional tux. If you’re wearing a print suit, a solid bowtie is a good option, or vice versa, if your bowtie has a pattern on it, then team it with a solid suit. However, stylists like to mix patterns together achieve a fashionable look.

Bow ties exhibit an impeccable style, it can be the symbol of a woman who is confident in her skin and not the one you can mess around with. But don’t think that this tiny little accessory is only for the tough woman. A bow tie is simple yet creative, masculine yet soft, sensual yet cute. So what are you waiting for girl? Shine up your oxfords and blow dry your hair neat, for bow ties are going to be your new favourite accessory.
