Etro presents its Women’s Spring Summer 2011 collection capturing a new urban slant on exotic. Demonstrating versatility and effortless ease, the collection takes its inspiration from the graphic geometrics of multi-tribal influences and the unique constructions of bordered silk foulards, with a new clean edge.
The extraordinary fabrics with the knife pleats in a georgette plissé add a geometric layer to patterned separates. Jackets have been richly embroidered with patch-worked tribal patterns, while tunic dresses are encased in micro black and white beading, some with striped metal mesh. Compact knit shorts and bandeau tops are worn under silk dresses or jackets. Jacquards gleam with textured surfaces, while simple cotton and canvas linen present a counter point.
Printed separates like flared skirts, cropped pants, T-shirt shaped tops or blouses have been paired together, creating the illusion of one piece. Etro’s signature paisley print takes on new life in a graphic black and white format, and disintegrates into zigzag. Bold color blocks from flag green, turquoise, coral and black create a palette cleanser on silk blouses, pants and skirts.
The sharp lines of scarves inform new silhouettes such as layered, triangular hems on long dresses or strapless tops. Folding and draping techniques result in new volumes on sleeves, asymmetrical lengths or neck tie details. A contained fluidity is seen on the new cropped pants, long dresses and collarless coats, as well as slim tunics which are worn over straight pants. The new constructed look is built into short sleeve patch-worked dresses, above the knee shorts, and peasant tops paired with more linear lines.
The accessories like Shiny metal plaques configured on thin belts, handbag closures and jewelry is reminiscent of antique tribal amulets. The flat metal, also knitted into thin cuffs and collar necklaces, adds a techno-folk touch. Structured leather handbags have been printed with scarf patterns and can transform to an envelope shape, while others feature metal shell embroidery. The signature paisley jacquard for the bags evolves into ebony and ivory graphics. Raw wood platform sandals with suede and lizard straps, or multicolor glass beads embroideries complete the look.
