A new bud in the modeling, Abhishek Patni hails from Delhi. The technology freak Abhishek says his first love is machines and he loves to read and research new technologies in automobile field in his free time. So how he turned into modeling? Courtsey recession.

So lets know more about Abhishek Patni.

Tell us briefly about your early life, family and academics?
As a kid I was always shy and a very skinny child. I was an active sports person in school and often took part in dramatics. I believe that education is very important for us and reflects in everything you do. The time that I had spent in engineering college opened doors for healthy exposure and new opportunities. It helped me in turning out to be a confident, open minded person and improved my communication skills to a great extent.

After I got placed in a company while I was in the 3rd yr of my college, I decided to join a gym and by the June 2010 I had achieved the good body, which further increased my confidence. My family comprises of my dad, mum, younger brother and myself. My family is a conservative Pahari family but since we are living in Delhi for last 11 years, I feel we have adopted well to the change in culture, environment and other habits.

I have always been an above average child and did engineering from Amity University. I have played cricket at zonal level and college level.

How you bumped into your first assignment?
Destiny and recession are responsible for my entry in this field. I was a victim of recession as the company in which I got placed didn’t call. One day my sister introduced me to her friend, who happened to a stylist. He offered me an editorial shoot and after that my modelling journey started.

What did you aspire to become as kid?
As a child and even today I am a bike and car fanatic. I always wanted to be a fast bike racer. I have also started saving money to buy a superbike for my self.

QUICK SNIPPET

FAVORITE FOOD: Tofu, Indian

FAVORITE PERFUME: Bvlgari, CK Intense

FAVORITE DESIGNER: Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna, Hemant and Lecoanet

FAVORITE HOLIDAY DESTINATION:Any exotic hill station.

THING YOU ARE ADDICTED TO: Drinking tea

YOU ARE SACRED OF: Getting injuries in the gym.

MUSIC YOU LOVE TO LISTEN: Hip Hop,Gazals and Classic Hindi film songs

FAVORITE NIGHT SPOT: The Zoo Bar

FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPHER: Mr.Raj Chaturvedi and Atul kasbekar.

Which shows (designers) and commercials have you graced with your presence?
I have done umpteen shows for the likes of Hansiba, Lecoanet and Hemant. Besides I have done editorials and print shoots and the recent one was Espirit editorial for The Man September 2010 issue.

Your greatest achievement?
Transformation of my body from a skinny 56kg lad to a 65 kg fit person through yoga and weight training.

What do you think of bollywood as a career option?
Bollywood as a career option is every one’s dream. Though now days the competition has increased exponentially, but having a reality check of yourself, strong focus and dedication can take you to the top. I strongly believe that If destiny wants something for you ,it can’t do that on its own ,you have to be their to support it.

When not modelling what are you most likely to be found doing?
Reading and researching about new technologies in automobile sector.

What has been most touching moment of your life?
When I got my 18 gear bicycle I was so excited to ride it that I had a full body tan after 3 days.

Your take on modeling industry in India?
Modeling industry is a world of great opportunities where fortunes are made overnight or sometimes it takes years. Though its a women oriented field, I am really happy to see all the major states organizing fashion weeks and was real excited when Van Heusen India Men’s fashion week was announced. As a result work domain has increased so as money for male models.

What is fashion for you?
Fashion to me is basic clothing .You don’t need to wear brands to look good or to make n statement. Be comfortable in what you wear and believe in yourself.

Your icon/ role model in life?
Randy Paush and all those people who have survived terrorist attack and natural calamities are the real heroes and have shown the world what true courage is.

Your beauty and fitness regime?
I believe that body building is a platform supported by three pillars: training, rest and diet. For the base to be strong all the 3 should work hand in hand. I do one hour weight training six days a week and half an hour parnayam every morning and sleep for at least 7 hours.

What is your idea of an ideal date?
I truly believe in being spontaneous and maverick, so a last minute decision works perfectly but having to surprise I would go for a beach side dinner followed by a walk.

Denims are indeed like a carefree laid back paramour you have bowl full of vivid memories with but mills and boons never confirm his existence and thus your desultory fancies. Fantasies ridden you keep searching the gloss and shimmer but still every morning you wake up in his arms. Over the years denims have mastered the art of seduction – a subtle seduction to turn the denim dependence into an addiction. The story reinvents itself this fall too with denims reaching a notch higher and rebelling against the trends. You can see the ageless and lithe denims peeping out of the glass windows of high streets in various avatars.

High on practicality and style denims have stung the fashionistas again with the denim shirts mounting up the rich wardrobes quite sleekly. The trend which was high on ramps last season is here to blow off the fashion circles again ala Chloe and further glorified by Diesel Black Gold and G Star. Wear your classy denim shirt buttoned up to the collar with ladylike elegance by layering it with velvet blazer, lace skirts and vibrant pumps. The law is to keep it subtle with a modern twist instead of falling prey to all cowboy look. So reinvent the 80s cowboy shirts with contemporary styling like a bracelet and a bowler hat.

The hippies are back with denim-on-denim look with marijuana fumes celebrating the winters of love. The overall or denim over denim is no longer a fashion faux pas. Romanticized by dolce and Gabbana last season, the full denim look can be very much seen mingling with the conducts of fashion. This fall embrace the look in the moods of William Rast and 3.1 Phillip Lim playing with this tricky look which leads the staid brows to argue its acceptability but let the fashion prevail by playing it with chic accessories like belts and contrasting coats and t shirts to break the overall denim look. Stay on the safer shores by adopting different colors of top and bottom wear. Contrast the look by wearing it in two different hues of denims.

Denims have this revolutionary instinct to register its authority over the masses; denim as a bottom wear fits this flair well. Over the time designers kept reinventing the denim jeans in new patterns and shades. From boyfriend jeans and jeggings to ripped ones and shorts, denim is present with versatility to harbour the unsafe crotches. This winter denim blues are intact with other shades like white, brown and black registering their presence to be tagged fashionably chic. Printed denims ala Balmain needs an inclusive consideration by paring it with metallic hued long coats. Other way around get a classy look by turning the hem of your jeans up and pair it with shimmering jacket or team it up with casual plaids for that laid back look. Besides, add the rugged sensuality by opting for denim shorts and simply pair them with a t shirt, cropped jacket, slim belt and loads of ease and nostalgia which denims come replete with and witness the denim fever turning pandemic this winter.

Dr. Batra’s Positive Health Awards 2010, presented by Bajaj Discover, were held at N.C.P.A. with Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan felicitating the awardees, at a glittering ceremony attended by over 1,000 invitees.

These Awards, now in their fifth year, are India’s first health honours instituted by Dr Batra’s, to recognize those who have displayed outstanding courage in the fight against disease and disability. Pioneers in the Indian automobile industry, Bajaj Discover has partnered for the very first time with this year’s project which is being held in Mumbai.

An eminent jury comprising of Smt. Maneka Gandhi, Ms. Anu Aga, Mr. Vivek Oberoi, Mr. R. Balki, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj and Dr. Mukesh Batra selected seven winners from over hundred of nominations. The seven winners – Dr. Dyandeo Chopade, Ms. Kritika Purohit, Ms. Anita Guruprasad, Ms. Sushmeeta Bubna, Mr. Suresh Chalke, Ms. Dhriti Pandit and Ms. Sabira Khan exemplify what it takes to transform humans into heroes.

The guests were entertained by scintillating performances by dance guru Shiamak Davar’s troupe of specially-challenged children. There was also a musical rendition and dance performance by the students of The Happy Home and School for the Blind.

When it comes to looking chic this season, then go for Calvin Klein lightweight jackets in metallic hues. These lightweight neon jackets in vibrant hues take their inspiration from old 80s videos and films exuding a strong disco diva vibe.

A huge trend this season is sleek sportswear, in all kind of technical fabrics. Liquid gold, soft greys and pewter colored fabrics make them perfect for day wear. So contrast these muted metallic tones with darker shades of autumn and bring zest to your winter wardrobe.

Pair the Calvin Klein lightweight nylon jackets with mandarin collar shirts and chino pants or skinny denims for a clean look. Or wear a dress or cardigan adorned with tone-on-tone sequined trim or just a piping of gold to get the playful look. You can also layer your look with leggings that have metallic thread woven into a fabric.

The Indian luxury shoe designer Sameer Singh is back with his vibrant and edgy festive collection while adding a new chapter to his signature collections, ‘The Blue Blood’ and the ‘Dreams Collection’.

The new range makes a vibrant offering with hues such as red, blue, pink, and even gold and silver and other metallic shades. While the Blue Blood line tops the essence of grandeur with Swarovski stones that make for a bejeweled statement, the Dreams Collection pushes the limits of cutting-edge style and innovative designs that spell chic elegance. The craftsmanship and detailing are unequaled; each design is treated like a piece of art. The result is that each shoe exudes delicate finesse.

Sameer says “This season brings with it innumerable occasions to dress up. Your footwear is the most important part of a perfect look. This time footwear in a range of exotic skins and textures is haute. A jeweled pair of shoes can bring in just the right amount of bling to an ensemble, and attracts attention. Be it a statement making piece, or a well coordinated style, the footwear can do a lot to make or break the look of an ensemble, and hence should be selected with much attention.”

Born and brought up in Delhi, Yash Gera always wanted to be a model and he made it through working hard. The DJ-turned-model-turned-actor Yash is a household name being featured in many daily soaps on national television. Having had a great stint with modeling Yash has almost walked for every big designer in India.

Read more to know about Yash Gera.

Tell us something about your journey in the showbiz?
Well, I am from Delhi…..born and brought up in the lanes of this warm city. I completed my majors in Office Management from College of Vocational Studies in Delhi itself. Just like every normal guy I was infected by name, fame and money. So while studying I gradually tried carving out my ambitions in reality. When I was 19, I started DJing and with in a year I was able to afford my portfolio. My parents were reluctant to see their son turning into a model. But I somehow persuaded them and within the three days of my portfolio in the mailbox of all most every modeling and advertisement agency, I hit it off with camera for a nation wide campaign. So within a day I turned from an unknown to an acquainted face. Though it was just the beginning of the journey and gradually I started getting calls for diverse assignments and meanwhile I walked at WIFW 2008. Later I shifted my base to Bombay and jumped in the emerging Indian television industry which I am a very much part of presently.

So how has been your experience in the industry which demands a lot of patience and struggle?
Yes, its very much true. This industry is infectious and addictive in its own ways. Trends change and relations fluctuate but you need to be determined and confident of yourself. Be positive and you will get the thing you want. Though it is cut throat competitive and demands a hell hard work out of you but at the end of the day competition is everywhere these days whether it’s modeling or a job of a clerk.

Models see the fashion very closely. After all they are the one who dishes it out on the ramps. So as a model what’s fashion for you? How you like to dress up?
Well, fashion for me is all about individualism. It’s a reflection of one’s moods and tastes. Though cliché, but yes definitely fashion is comfort for me. I can’t mess up with my comfort zone to merely look someone else. I like to get dressed up in my pair of old jeans and casual t shirts.

How do you keep yourself fit? What’s your fitness mantra?
I used to gym a lot but these days I just prefer to run and engage in yoga sessions to keep myself fit and active.

What is Yash Gera found doing in his free time?
As I told you, I have a special attachment with music and acting. So in my leisure time you will find me playing with music.

What is the most touching moment of your life?
It was when I walked on the ramp for the very first time.

How do you want your perfect date to be?
That’s quite intruding (smiles)…..Ummmm….there should be some suspense and mystery when it comes to my kinda perfect date. I love the things happening subtly.

Introducing Collections from Bethany Meuleners and Sabah Mansoor Husain

It’s hard to believe that my last blog post was two months ago. New York Fashion Week came and went quickly, as did the fall season. I’ve just spent the past four days enjoying the company of family and friends while baking, cooking, celebrating Thanksgiving Day (a U.S. holiday), as well as preparing for Christmas and the welcoming of 2011. It’s one of my favorite times of the year.

The winter chill and the festive mood of the holidays leads me to the Fall/Winter collections of two San Francisco-based designers, Bethany Meuleners and Sabah Mansoor Husain.  The two met while pursuing their Master’s in Fashion Design and Knitwear, and showed their respective collections at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. In addition to individual design projects, Bethany and Sabah have decided to partner and create a new label, “Be.Sa”, which is scheduled to launch next year.

Bethany Meulerners
Bethany’s knit collection combines silk chiffon, wool, and mohair – a cozy combination for chilly weather.

Bethany was recently awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to research traditional apparel crafts and learn from local artisans in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. In addition to her research, Bethany shares her fashion knowledge and expertise as a contributing writer for “The Himalayan Times”. To read about Bethany’s adventures and fashion observations while in Nepal, visit her blog: http://fashiontrekker.wordpress.com/author/fashiontrekker/

Sabah Mansoor Husain
Husain Sabah’s collection sparkles with jewel-shaped crystals that were custom-made in India (where she grew up), adding to the festive flair of the holiday parties.

Sabah’s collection was recently chosen to grace the windows of American luxury retailer, “Neiman Marcus”, at their San Francisco store, to celebrate the global event, “Fashion’s Night Out”.
