Delving into the world of fine art, leading art aficionado Simar Dugal launches her gallery, Pigment Art with a very invigorating group show by contemporary masters titled, ALT + REFRESH.

Presented by Korbel Champagne and hosted by Tonino’s, Alt + Refresh is an attempt by Simar to salute the new voices of current day masters who are lending a new vocabulary to contemporary art.

On this arty affair Simar said, “For me when I wake every morning, I find my walls reaching out into different worlds. I can as easily disappear into the verdant fields of Kerala where women work and speak to the children whose eyes look into my soul as I find Binoy Verghese’s images arresting. Or, venture into the dreamscape world of Manil Gupta, the sparseness of Sachin Deo’s Zen like painting, or the immense confusion of George Martin’s colors that settle in sync at his command. The trance like repetitions of Vijit Sharma, or the intricacy of Yogesh Sharma’s tiny figures, mingle but each with its own expression. All these works are different but at the same time having the same resonance , each having its own strong voice , a voice contemporary and new and most of all of a confident language that has forged a place of its very own in the world arena of contemporary art today.”

The launch witnessed Aarti Singh, Angad Bedi, Shantanu Mehra, AyeshaThapar, Charu Parashar, Rita Sawhney Farah,  Amrit Kiran Singh, JJ Valaya, Rajeev Makhni, Monisha Bajaj,  Anil Lepps, Nisha Singh, Raseel Gujaral, Navin Ansal, Rima Mehra, Simran Sawhney, Shibani Kashyap,  Divya Gurware,  Simran Tanwar, Suhel Seth, Rohit Chawla, Vijay Arora, Ritu Kumar, Vikram Baidyanath absorbed in the depth of the paintings.

With great aplomb, Circa 1193 located in the lush Qutub Mehrauli Area, celebrated its launch with an eclectic gathering over cocktails hosted by Nikhil Kanwar, Vidur Parashar & Varun Soni and his wife Wasiqa.

Endowing sumptuous food and drink, gracious service and unparalleled ambience, Circa 1193 launched with the guests seen enjoying and mingling with each other on the amazing picturesque rooftop venue.

Seen in attendance over the course of the evening sampling the sumptuous cuisine on offer by Chef Achal Aggarwal were the who’s who of the capital like Amit Bhatia, Priya Sachdev, Tarun Tahiliani, Suneet Verma, Raja & Kamaiyani Kanwar, Sunjay Kapur, Riddhima & Bharat Sahni, Alka & Monu Bali, Amaan Ali Bangash, Gunjita Dhawan, Devina Vadehra, Parul Vadehra, Tanisha & Robby Mohan, Indrani Dasgupta, Aparna Bahl & Deepak Bedi, Candice Pinto, Rahul Aggarwal (Producer & Actor), Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, Amol Vadehra, Manav Gangwani, Siddartha Tytler, Jaisal Singh, Naina Balsavar, Ammu Saidi, Kunal & Vimmi Lallani, Nishi Singh, Divya Gurwara, Aniljit & Sabah Singh, Shiv Karan Singh, Riyaaz Amlani, Sriya Saran, Karan Singh, Sabina & Udai Singh, Sumaiya & Rudra Dalmia, Gaurav Raina, Prashant Verma, Vijay Arora, Raakesh Agarvwal, Neha Kapur (Model), Riju Jhunjhunwala, Simar Duggal, Rima & Shantanu Mehra, Anshuman & Shweta Singhania, Pia & Andrea Aftab Pauro, Shabnam Singhal, Punit & Rohan Juneja, amongst many others.

Set in a Wunderkammer, cabinet of curiosities, the Etro women’s selection offers informal luxury for the refined and versatile collectors of Mumbai.

Shirts and tunics in lush fabrics set off the new season’s prints. Glamour mixed with high brow charm is enriched with a palette vibrant with the shades of semi-precious stones: emerald, jade and amber. Plain and printed meld harmoniously in the same look, with novel influences that range from the austerity of military uniforms to the vitality of the metropolis.

Veronica Etro’s designs are created to glide over the body, to highlight key points of a tapered silhouette, where the waist is always a feature. The exotic pieces embrace a softness that favors lightweight yet corporeal and stretch fabrics.

The looks can be complimented with exquisite pieces from the accessories collection that evoke the magic of the Forbidden City. The range includes classic Arnica paisley print bags, evening clutches, bohemian hobos, scarves and bijoux.

The time throws the eulogical narratives when it comes to Sonalika Sahay. The hotel management graduate to an air hostess in Singapore Airlines, Sonalika prowled in the Indian modeling scene with her sizzling hot looks. Soon she carved her way in the big league, big enough to be the face of Christian Dior watches in India.

So without letting you pant to know more about this Diva, here is Sonalika Sahay with an opinion for anything and everything concerning her.

Tell us something about your academics and early life?
My early years were spent in a small peaceful town Hazaribag which is a part of Jharkhand now. Academics wise I came to Delhi to pursue Hotel Management and further went on to live in Singapore. This is where modeling started for me. Later, I came back to India to continue modeling.

The dizzying heights you touched make you stand apart from the rest. Tell us something about your journey. How modeling happened to you?
Modeling started when I was in Singapore where I joined a modeling agency. The journey here has been a long tiring one and I cherish every minute of it. I have worked in Milan, Rome, New York, China, Moscow, Dubai and many other countries.

Don’t you think modeling comes with a very short shelf life? So what plans have you held for yourself?
Modeling is a short term career. It does get over in less than 10 yrs if one has to exhaust all work avenues. But it does open up a lot of work options related to the industry if one wants to move on. Choreography, events, public relations, fashion magazines, there are multiple options. I have not had a chance yet to work out an exit plan and I don’t even need to do it in immediate future, but I’m sure I will figure out something that will appeal to my aesthetics when the time is right.

Having been in one of the most glamorous industry how do you see fashion as from an insider’s point of view?
Fashion industry in India is just getting more and more professional by the day. Every job is taken very seriously and the young pool of designers have revolutionized the industry in a way.

What’s your take on increasing number of fashion weeks in India?
Fashion should not be contained to the metros. Every city has an equal right to be exposed to the latest trends. So the increasing numbers is just all the more better for everyone but at the same time there has to be a quality check to the standard of fashion that is being showcased.

Girls through out the world are flooding Indian modeling industry. So how insecure are Indian models in this fair skin obsessed industry?
I think its turning the other way round at the moment. Everyone is looking at dusky Indian skin for endorsements. Yes in India there is a bit of fair skin obsession still but there is enough work for everyone here.

What about the modeling industry globally and in India at present and what it has grown from?
India is catching up fast with the global fashion industry. With a lot of modeling agencies coming in the picture, the models’ rights are being safeguarded and the international market has become accessible to the Indian models.

How is Sonalika Sahay as a person, which books do you like, what sort of music do you enjoy and all that comprises the most essential part of you other than modeling?
I love outdoor sports. Swimming, badminton and golf, these are a few things I like to do when I’m free. Books wise I like kite Runner, City of D jinns and My name is red. Depending on my mood I can read from Discovery of India to Harry Potter.

Tell us also the story backstage about your interactions with the choreographers, model co-ordinaters who put together such a picture perfect show?
Everyone has a role to play. It’s very difficult to describe the entire backstage picture in such short space. All I can say is that once the show starts the energy backstage is phenomenal. Everyone is performing to their best capacity. There is no space for people who slack in this industry.

What is your fitness regime?  I mean what do you do to always look so presentable?
I play a lot of sports and if I’m traveling I do make it a point to take out time to hit the gym for an hour or so. No diet control for me. I’m a big foodie.

What is your greatest achievement till date?
No great achievements as such. I just love my job and put my heart and soul in everything that I do. But yes I do appreciate the awards that I have received so far. It inspires me to work better. F- award for Best Fashion Model, Dior Sensational Face of the Year and society award to name a few.

What’s your take on drug abuse and suicides which are so prevalent in modeling industry?
These are not prevalent in the modeling industry only. Its tragic and its happening everywhere. So, no comments.

Five fashion must haves by Sonalika for fashionfad’s viewers?

  • A good pair of denims
  • Nice pair of black heels
  • A nice red jacket
  • A good branded bag
  • And a good watch

How does Sonalika like to style herself up? Whats her style statement?
Simple and comfy. Tee’s and denims is my all time favourite dressing.

How do you spend your leisure time?
Playing, reading and watching TV.
