The designers are known for their exquisite designs and distinct…

The designer duo Kapil and Monika launched their eponymous label 4 years back when they realized a serious gap in the category of customized couture. Soon after starting their label, the self-taught designers with a keen eye of aesthetics and interesting interpretation of traditional Indian craftsmanship, had a strong and loyal clientele across the country.

The designers are known for their exquisite designs and distinct sensibility which create wonders on the garments. The high craftsmanship marrying aestheticism can be clearly witnessed in the ensembles crafted by the duo. Indian motifs, embroideries and traditional techniques meet with contemporary silhouettes, to give the distinction to the designers which they are applauded for.

After starting their first store in April 2007, Kapil and Monika have been a regular presence at fashion shows and fairs, and their works can be seen being showcased at events such as Vivaha, India’s biggest bridal exhibition, not to mention exhibitions in Dubai and Oman, which are big international markets for the company. With each ensemble designed, Kapil and Monika endeavor to go beyond the realm of convention and produce an effect that is simply dazzling.

With the worldwide success of their couture line, the label Kapil and Monika recently launched a luxury Prêt line, keeping in mind the growing needs of their clientele. While keeping the luxury intact, the new line accommodates a wider customer base.

The Kapil and Monika label retails from stores like Kimaya (Delhi and Mumbai), Amara (Mumbai), Zena Couture (London) and their two flagship stores in Delhi.

Najeeb Dresses Your Tress
Who doesn’t want those enchanting Rapunzel-esque tresses but a step outside your cave leaves your much nurtured strands of love crying for attention. And you go all insane again with another bottle of conditioner and serum making way to your shelf while trashing the not-so-effective previous ones. So empathizing, we bumped into Hair Stylist Najeeb Ur Rehman to know more about hair care and styling.

What is your main philosophy regarding hair?
It’s one of the most alluring things to make someone beautiful and feel better about them. Styling is an art. All you need is to enhance the features of a person blending this art with technology.

What are some of your must have styling tools and products?
Indians have a great hair texture. The genetically voluminous hair can be done easily to cinch that chic look. But at the end of the day, a same style brings monotony. You need a change to be in sync with latest trends. To attain the fashionable movements, we use tongs in temporary settings. Besides, products like flat liners from the range of Osis hair products give you longer lasting ultra flat styles which otherwise can be vulnerable to damage on using excessive heating treatments as it directly harms your cuticles. So styling products can vary from irons and tongs to accessories like fancy clips, flowers and extra hairs.

Which colors suit Indian skin tone?
Earthy or warm colors like shades of brown, beige and gold suit best with Indian skin tone. Apart from that, blondes compliments well in streaks only.

Which hairstyles are most popular and suitable in context of Indian structure?
Hair styling is all about creating a latent illusion. I wouldn’t say that this particular style is one-fits-all type. Styling is meant to accentuate the individuality of a person by enhancing his face cuts and features. Like camouflaging with little mix of wisps and pixies softens down the square and round faces and gives the illusion of oval shape. Similarly, medium and short waves go well with short height. In India where average height is comparatively smaller than its counterparts, obsession for long hair is quite rampant. I mean if you have short height then long hair makes you look short.

Tell us something about dressing the unmanageable tresses in this rainy season.
In rainy season hair gets frizzy because of humidity. Oiling worsens the situation. So the products to be used must have humid control factor. Shampoo your hair and use water based conditioner. Besides, anti frizz gloss serum works wonders in this season.

How to attain the healthy glowing fluttering hair?
Hahaha…..your hair needs care. Cut your hair once in a month. Use good hair products, never compromise on it. And use oil only if you have a dry scalp plus, eat healthy and take your proper sleep. After all, hair speaks a lot about your health and lifestyle silently.
