With more than a touch of preppy, the twist is in the audacious use of color, mixed patterns and proportions, the Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2011 collection is where rockabilly meets the country club set.

The women’s looks are a play on Babe Paley’s iconic style. A refreshing trove of basics, beginning with boyfriend-cut trousers and menswear shirting, get punked with shrunken fits and crop tops. Unabashed preppy staples like pleated tennis skirts mash up with bandeau tops, sarong knots and teasing cut outs. Evening gets a soft edge with back-baring georgette gowns while a sequined navy blazer, windowpane and eyelet up the ante on daywear.

Governed by shades of blue from periwinkle to classic navy, the palette ranges from ballet pink to butter to pale mint green. As always, a pop of Tommy Hilfiger red embellishes, especially on the heel of dressed-up sneakers and boat shoes. Color-blocked handbags in clean, angular shapes add a final touch of gloss.

The menswear is for the neo-preppy rocker who considers seersucker short suits and leopard loafers a way of life. Tossed-on and quirky, his prepster look is dictated by perfect-fit pants in thin red pinstripe, well-worn oxfords, a navy blazer updated with Hilfiger red piping and a smattering of bright plaids.

Surita Tandon presents her first solo exhibition that exhibits finest of works in pop art and explores artistic manifestation under the title Metaphors in Melody at DLF Emporio. The two day exhibition is being curate by Alka Raghuvanshi who has won various accolades and titles in the realm of art.

The artworks present yesteryear icons such as Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Munroe in contemporary art forms. Surita dips into nature as her inspirational bastion and her blaze of gold and saffron from autumnal Kashmir finds place on canvas as do the somber greens of the monsoonal Andhra Pradesh. The red and blues culled from nature replete with reference points that are universal in both appeal and context.

Speaking on the occasion Surita says, "I am constantly looking towards nature for inspiration. It helps me establish a link with my inner self. We as human beings have also paid the price of ignoring nature, but interestingly violence itself is as much a part of nature as colour. And yet each stroke takes it forward. Consequently I am that much conscious of it in my work. Abstractions tend dilute."

The  journey from the streets of Jabalpur to the dazzling  alleys  of fashion has solidified every  gut and nerve of gritty, Ankit Raj. Seen the life from both sides now (at the so- called-shallow, 21), this humble hunk had always dreamt to be a  model. So fueling his ambitions he moved to Delhi, got his   grooming done and surrendered himself to destiny. It worked  and his randomly clicked pictures got noticed at a social    networking site and soon he hit it off with camera and lights

Now having walked for almost every Indian designer and done   umpteen print shoots for the likes of Honda Jazz and Peter    England, fitness fiend Ankit Raj shared his aspirations and    journey with fashionfad. Lets know more about a small town    boy making big on high streets.

Tell us briefly about your early life, family and academics?

I hail from the industrial town of Jabalpur. I was born and brought up there but after my schooling, I enrolled in PGDAVCollege in Delhi and got a good exposure.

How you bumped into your first assignment?

Its quite interesting. Actually when I started modeling, I got few clicks from a random photographer and posted them on a social networking site. And the very next day, I got a call for a shoot which I didn’t pay much attention to initially thinking it might be a prank but when I got the calls repeatedly, I just showed up  for the shoot and got selected.

What did you aspire to become as kid?

Since my childhood days I used to watch Gladrags and was very fascinated of this world. But as a small town like Jabalpur can’t paint your dreams true, I moved to Delhi where I got my grooming done and gave it a shot.

Tell us something about your journey?

My journey has been quite good. I started modeling two years back and touchwood!,  earned a name in this profession. I have had done shows for Manoviraj Khosla, Rajvi Mohan, Nitin Bal Chauhan and almost every designer in this edition of VHIMW. So as far as ramp is concerned, I am getting a good dose of work. Besides, I have shot for Honda Jazz and Peter England among many more.

 Your greatest achievement?

Appearing on the cover page of WIFW in March 2009.

What do you think of bollywood as a career option?

It’s great….I would love to be the part of bollywood.

When not modeling what are you most likely to be found doing?

Working out, swimming and Yoga.

What is fashion for you?

Fashion is comfort for me. Whatever I wear I shall be comfortable in that.

Your icon/ role model in life?

John Abraham and Brad Pitt.
