With spring approaching make your own statement on the season by adding the perfect trench to your wardrobe.  If anything the s/s 10 shows proved that this sexy-tough staple can work as more than just the requisite raincoat.  Initially created by Thomas Burberry for soldiers in World War I, then later adopted as a practical overcoat to protect civilian men and women from the rain, the trench has established itself as a classic icon of style.

According to Style.com in “Anatomy of a Trench Coat,” the humble trench “has outlasted every trend and has won over every new generation.”  Modern twists include pleated or voluminous skirts, short or wide sleeves, and variations in fabric, color and length.  No doubt, we continue to love the trench because of the way they nip us in at the waist, keep us warm when it’s cold, cool when it’s hot and, of course, dry when it’s wet.   Take a look at some of the ‘best of’ from the spring shows.
