One of the biggest street style/ trend this season to be seen are denims adorned with colored vintage patches. Though it was introduced on the fashion runways some time back but lately has caught up with college goers and at street party’s.

A good pair of jeans or denim jacket is always in style no matter what season it is. We go and explore the idea as to what makes them so special. Born out of the recent rough-around-the-edges trend better known as distressed denims, these jeans are ripped, stitched, and worked to new life for a look that is at once understated and laid back. They combine a Do-It-Yourself attitude with a cool, rugged aesthetic that denim heads love. Plus, they are a great way to increase the life span of your favorite jeans.

With sustainability infusing fashion world with new vigor, Patchwork denims are a great way to up-cycle denims and rework classics. No longer do you have to throw away a favorite pair just because it’s got a giant rip. We bet you can’t stop the urge after reading few cool DIY ways into the patchwork trend to up your style quotient.

  • If you are good at sewing, collect different shades of denim from old jeans and shirt. Build a range of tonal denim patches and use simple running stitch to sew them to your jeans. Leave your patches with raw edges for a frayed look.
  • A super fun way to give patchwork a twist is to go for a medley of denim and contrast fabric. This has a make do and mend quality. Just remember to go for something that is not so destroyed and patched up that you look like you need extra cash. A slight mix in texture is all you need
  • Not handy with the needle and thread? That’s why iron-on patches were invented! Buy a few funky ones and unleash the fashion rebel in you.

So, how to wear a patchwork piece without looking like a walking quilt? Try to keep the number of patches to a minimum or pick a pair that has subtle Patches. The trick is to keep the rest of your outfit basic. If it’s your denim jeans that’s covered with patches, try adding a solid neutral tee and team them with a stylish bomber jacket. For a semi casual look, pair a navy blazer with your patchwork jeans and solid t-shirt. For your patched-up jacket, go for neutral t-shirt and dark jeans. Complete the look with cool sneakers or dark penny loafers.

If you just can’t do the above, go shopping as major denim brands have created a range of authentic patched denims and depending on your taste, you can choose from basic to totally quirky. With retro styles becoming a fashion mainstay, vintage patched denims have taken a bolder look with elements of nostalgia attached to it.

So, go ahead and Live it up with your Denim Love!!
