When it comes to Simran Kaur Mundi, she needs no introduction. Miss India 2008, who recently walked red carpet for the film ‘Outrage’ at the Cannes Film Festival, allegorizes a perfect fairy tale. She had never ever thought about Miss India, it just occurred and she stowed away the glitters as it was more of her mother’s dream. Now, almost a house hold name, Simran Kaur Mundi defines as happy go lucky girl who wants to live life out of every moment.
So we got into a free wheeling chat with Simran pouring her heart out for fashionfad exclusively.

How participating in Miss India struck you? How it changed your life?
It happened by chance. I never intended to participate. It was my mums dream more than me. I was spotted by Doris Godambe while I was working at fame and she asked me to participate. I went with the flow and gave my best shot and finally emerged to be a winner. It changed my life drastically. From a girl next door I became a celebrity and someone so many girls look upto overnite. It’s an amazing experience and a huge responsibility. I enjoyed every bit of it.

You walked for the likes of Roberto Cavalli. How different is it to walk for the international designers?
Well, the treatment internationally is different. Plus, the feel and the attitude is quite different than Indian runways.

What is your future plans regarding bollywood and modeling?
I don’t plan. I just go with the flow. I believe in taking one day at a time.

How is Simran Kaur as a person, what books do you like, what sort of music do you enjoy and all that comprises the most essential part of you other than modeling?
Fun loving, carefree; don’t take much stress and happy go lucky, that’s me. I love to sketch and I love music. I love to dance and catch up on friends and old times.

What is fashion for you? What is your style statement that defines your fashion?
Fashion for me is a fad which changes every season. My style statement is be comfortable in your own skin, knowing your body type and getting dressed accordingly.

What has been the most interesting experience in your career span?
Cannes Film Festival 2010.

Tell us also the story backstage about your interactions with the choreographers, model co-ordinaters who put together such a picture perfect show?
Walking the ramp is so euphoric. The pressure and hustle bustle backstage during shows, the screaming, shouting, excitement mixed with apprehensive emotions, all that glitter and glamour. And not to forget the hard work, patience and ah well…the pain you get by wearing those extremely high heels, it all comes in one big package.

It’s so much fun when the show starts – Our backstage helpers are always running looking for us to go for rehearsals before
the show, and then making sure all of us are dressed in our outfits on time when the show starts and we don’t miss our entries.

It’s like when we walk the ramp, we are these strong confident women and when get of all of us are running to our stations rushing into our next change. Sometimes, even panicking if there’s crunch time but with all that panicking and drama backstage when we do get back on the ramp, it’s calm and confident as usual.

It’s a transformation. You have to see to believe it. A model gets a minimum of 3-4 minutes of change time. And that’s what makes it so exciting. Before you even know it, the show’s over.

What is the secret of your beautiful skin and perfect body?
A healthy diet, lots of water, regular cleansing toning for face and and lots of happiness.
