The student of second year of journalism, Malvika Rallan hit it off with glamour at the tender sixteen being among the top six finalists at Miss India Teen contest. She thinks it was the watershed moment which transformed her into a diva.

The self-confessed ‘not-so-social’ elegance personified, Malvika sees herself exploring the streets of Europe with her love or might be the next face of Chanel, ten years down the line.

Let’s know more about the facts and fiction of Malvika Rallan.

Tell us briefly about your formative years and academics.
Well, I am pursuing bachelors in journalism and mass communication. This is my second year and since I like writing I think I will end up being a columnist or writer

How you bumped into your first assignment? How it changed your life?
I remember I was sixteen and there was this Miss Teen India Pageant directly affiliated to the Miss India Team. So it was kind of a big deal, I was on vacation that time but when I heard about it, I rushed back to India and auditioned for the same. As luck would have it I was under the top 6 finalists and that was a pretty good achievement for me. In a month’s time I had transformed into a whole new person and that experience actually changed my whole perspective towards this field (in a good way of course).

What did you aspire to become as kid?
Since my mom was an artist, I thought I would rather be like an artist or a famous musician or something. I was never really interested in Math and Science.

Where do you see yourself in this cut throat competitive industry? What’s your success mantra?
Since nowadays everyone wants to be a part of this Industry, you have a lot of competition of course. So I focus on what I am good at and keep working on it, I have a set of rules which I follow which helps me in being more calm. I always do my homework and never show up on set without knowing the exact cause; I think that is what keeps me aside.

What do you love and hate most about modeling?
I think we should not take rejection on our hearts. Honestly being in this industry is nerve wrecking. You don’t always get what you want and there will be times when someone might just be better than you. You need to have a strong heart. Even if it seems all coated up in sugar, reality is bittersweet.

Which designers have you worked with nationally and internationally? Whom do you find appealing your aesthetic senses most?
Well, I have done quite a few shows for Indian designers like Rohit Verma, Aarshee Jamal, Aslam Khan, Paras and Shalini etc. I really want to work internationally and I think that will be my next step. Valentino, Moschino, Galliano and Vera Wang are my dream designers. I think I will collapse if I ever work with them.

Which other projects have you graced with your presence? Any big project in pipeline?
Well there are a few big projects brewing up for me which can’t really be disclosed but I believe good things are coming my way

How is Malvika as a person? What does she like to do when not modeling?
Well I am not very social, if I get some time off shoots I spend it with family or catch up with some soap operas. I like sitting at home and relaxing more than anything else.

Where do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
Wow, well I guess I would be in the streets of some European country spending time with someone I love and enjoying a box of macaroons or could also be the next face of
Chanel. Well that is the dream.

Any social cause that you are associated with?
Not yet but when I finish college I would most definitely be working on down syndrome kids. Since I have a brother who is a down syndrome this issue is very close to me and since I know there are fewer facilities for them I think I would work on building some.

Which is the most cherished moment in your modeling career?
I would say the day when I was selected for Miss Teen India was a proud day for me and my family since I was shortlisted from thousands of candidates. It was also the first time I actually thought I could be something, so the moment was special.

What’s your beauty and fitness regime?
I have been blessed with good skin but in this industry you need to maintain it. Cleansing skin before going to sleep is vital. I use minimal make- up for my skin to breathe and eat healthy.
For fitness I don’t do weights but a lot of cardio. Since I love eating, I eat in small portions so that I don’t gain weight. Water is very essential for a healthy body and skin so
I drink a lot of it.

What is your idea of an ideal date?
Well champagne and gourmet will work best. And, seriously a good conversation with someone who is equally interested would be great.

What’s your style statement?
I am very much amazed by the sixties so I try to follow that fashion. My style is vintage and I usually wear nude and jewel tones with a loud lip shade.
