Tattoos are beautiful body adornment but there’s been a new trend in body art, the blackout tats and the web and instagram is freaking out as everyday there are new studies. Originally started from Singapore, the blackout tats cover your body in solid, black ink or whichever colour you like.

The Amazon India Fashion Week for Autumn Winter 2016 ended and we’re having withdrawal symptoms already. There’s just something about coming together of all fashion enthusiasts that’s just enticing – there’s a fashion parade on the ramp and off. This season’s theme being, #IndiaModern created a trend in itself. Giving a boost to the ‘Make in India’ campaign, it aimed at Indian textiles being used for making garments that were essentially Indian, but rather modern. It resulted in a long list of designers driving inspiration from the modern Indian woman and making garments that reflected her modernity. Apart from this, we also saw a few more trends that stood out. Read on to find out which are they.

• Minimalism – As the fashion world takes over minimalism, we saw strike difference in the collections this year. Cuts were cleaner, embellishments were bare minimum and comfort was key. Less is more; the Indian fashion scene has finally seemed to embrace the adage. Rinzim Dadu, Anita Dongre and EKA were the frontrunners for this trend.

• Ruffles – With his avant-garde ruffles from last season, Gaurav Gupta brought the trend to the runway only to see it bloom. Ruffled shoulders, necklines, waistlines and even hemlines were seen throughout the fashion event. Small or big in size, ruffles are sure to make it big in the upcoming season.

• Slits and hemlines – Thigh slits right at the front and asymmetrical hemlines were huge during the fashion week. They worked well for kurtas, shirt dresses and even ballroom gowns. Layering of hemlines was also seen throughout. Collections by Anavilla, Sanchita, Namrata Joshipura and Dolly J made an interesting use of the trend.

• Androgyny – The Amazon India Fashion Week this season saw in total four shows primarily for men’s wear. While the men strutted around wearing jewellery over their garments, and kilt-like skirts, women’s wear were also seen become more relaxed and unisex in nature. Rajesh Pratap Singh’s pantsuit for women’s wear and skirts for men and Rohit Kamra’s collection of jewelled garments brought the trend into focus.

Outfit: We will be seeing a lot of minimalistic fashion in 2016.  Jewel tones and sequins are popular this season. Colour blocking and heavy prints that dominated most of last year is been replaced by Single tone outfits with sharp and unusual neck and hemlines. Hues like mustard yellow, emerald green, tangerine, gold, turquoise and white are the colours to opt for. Let black take a back seat for now (store your LBDs for another rainy day; this is the time to shine and be noticed).

Fabrics: Silk drapes well to contour the body, use little pleats to hide unwanted lumps and bumps that we are critical about (it’s amazing how a few diagonal pleats across the tummy will immediately make you look slimmer) and we are good to go. Sequins are another way to add glamour to our nights; they will never go out of fashion. Keep it subtle in dark jewel tones and white and gold sequins will bring out the goddess in you, think Cleopatra.

Makeup: Kiss goodbye to heavy makeup and contouring this season. Natural makeup, smoky eyes and light lips go well with jewel toned outfits. Keep lip colour close to your natural skin tone; dark plum lips also scream sophistication.  Stay away from false eye lashes and coloured lenses; it keeps you from the natural magic. Apply a light dab of blush and shimmer to your face for the dewy look.

Hair: Avoid using too much hair product. A light wave or dead straight hair is sexy and will go well for day or night carpet events.
Accessories- Keep jewellery to minimum as you want all the attention on your gorgeous outfit. A diamond or gold cuff, a pair of dangling earring, an unusual cocktail ring (my favourite is a skull with diamantes; it’s always a talking point to break the ice at parties. Make sure it’s large enough for people to notice) and a simple clutch will add great dimension to your general look.

 

 

 

Common pitfalls- As mentioned earlier, try and avoid black unless its quirky, heavily made up face or hair and chunky shoes. Smile like you own the world and that’s the best advice I can give anyone. Pull yourself together with great confidence.

With gender neutral clothing been the key, Gilet is fast becoming a trend for this fall, the menswear-inspired outerwear is ideal piece to add to your wardrobe, especially during early fall weather, when it’s not quite hot, not sweater weather.

Coming on to discussing this trend, the Gilet originated in the 19th Century as a dress bodice echoing a men’s waistcoat.

The gilet’s revival is a nod to men wanting to harness their inner lumberjack. But it has also had an upgrade this season with new styling tips, teaming the gilet over lightweight outerwear and suiting, for an urban but smart finish, says WGSN.
