With spring approaching make your own statement on the season by adding the perfect trench to your wardrobe.  If anything the s/s 10 shows proved that this sexy-tough staple can work as more than just the requisite raincoat.  Initially created by Thomas Burberry for soldiers in World War I, then later adopted as a practical overcoat to protect civilian men and women from the rain, the trench has established itself as a classic icon of style.

According to Style.com in “Anatomy of a Trench Coat,” the humble trench “has outlasted every trend and has won over every new generation.”  Modern twists include pleated or voluminous skirts, short or wide sleeves, and variations in fabric, color and length.  No doubt, we continue to love the trench because of the way they nip us in at the waist, keep us warm when it’s cold, cool when it’s hot and, of course, dry when it’s wet.   Take a look at some of the ‘best of’ from the spring shows.

All eyes were on NY Fashion Week after news broke it would be the last year the event will be held in the tents at Bryant Park, causing the industry to come out for one last hurrah.  WWD predicted the F/W 2010 collections would be the key to lure shoppers back to spending. And will it?  A back-to-basics approach always proves favorable for consumers and designers found ways to add a little extra something to the basics, from adding fur to leather coats to ruffles on a dress.  Here’s a look at fall’s most important trends.

Citrus Colors
All the usual colors were present in fall’s collections including, black, white, gray, and taupe, but one of the biggest trends to come out of the week-long showing was the color yellow.  Seen in hues ranging from bright lemon to deep mustard, yellow seems to be the color for the upcoming season.

Ruffles
Ruffles, a trend that has already made an appearance for spring 2010 continues way into the fall.  Designers added ruffles to shirts, dresses and on jackets.  It’s a great way to lighten up a look.

Leather
Most designers chose to implement the edgy fabric into their collections, but gave the material a softer, more sophisticated appeal. A perfect way to add the ‘cool’ factor to your wardrobe.

Fur
Fall 2010 will be the season of decadent furs that go beyond outerwear and are incorporated into fashion in a decidedly more progressive manner.

Shoulder Detail
Lots of shoulder pads, voluminous shoulder treatments, ruffled shoulder details and extended shoulder lines.  Shoulder details came in such assortment that anyone should be able to find something great from this trend.

Cutouts
It’s all about showing a little skin without taking it too far.  An understated yet sexy way to show skin, cutouts popped up allover the body, some with mesh or lace insets.

Layers
Designers embraced seasonless dressing.  When in doubt, pile it on, and just see where it takes you.

Men are equally confused when it comes to dressing for an occasion and equally demanding in terms of latest offering from fashion and style. We are not talking about the metrosexual as we denounce any concepts of class differentiation based on concern for style. It’s universal for anyone to be concerned about their looks and appearance and this particular nomenclature was absolutely not required. Non-the-less the spring is here and time is ripe to throw away the blankets and get ready for the warm sun bath. Fashionfad.in enhances the style direction for the ever so stylish men this season.

The cool factor! : Its summer dude and we want something that’s comfortable and oh! so stylish. The cotton white shirt is the classic way to get it cool and Aslam Khan precedes fashion with his pin-tucked white shirt in mandarin collar. The little embroidery detail just above the pockets on the chest takes care of the minute attention of style. It is matched with peach trouser with patch pockets. The pockets seem to converge all the attention this season. Abhishek Gupta and Nandita Basu style for comfort in an ochre t-shirt with bike tessellation print matched with a straight fight relaxed trouser. The t-shirt from Nitin Bal Chauhan has a juxtaposition of tie prints worn over an extremely low waist trouser in horizontal stripes with suspenders hanging loose. And the Siddharth Tytler here flaunts an asymmetric dhoti pants in a rose motif styled with a coffee brown chest revealing sleeveless t-shirt.

Manoviraj Khosla has yet again brought back the one buttoned jacket but this time in off white with grey piping and shadow prints worn over the mono-basic grey trouser which expels ultimate style. The prints that are ruling fashion find their escape sometimes in the trousers and sometimes in the jackets. Ravi Bajaj shifts the muted paisley print to the trouser and compliments it with a powdery cream safari stylized jacket. Vallaya again has a black wool jacket sans button with contrast piping and a heavy drape trouser. The ethnic Indian kurtas have borrowed the colour of valor and thus red adds the accent to richness of fashion as we also see Vijay Arora and Shantanu and Nikhil interpreting the same in the kurta and sherwani. And Kotwara has tall kaftan style kurta styled with block printed huge stole. The neat line of symmetry is visible in Zubair Kirmani’s charcoal kurta with illusionary checks.

The gamcha and banyan style right off from the streets exude supreme style in Rajesh Pratap Singh’s creation. And here rises the shorts upto the thigh in beige linen with patch pockets prefixed with indigo printed loose neck tee by Rajvi Mohan. Samant Chauhan has weaved his short in luxury and comfort with raw silk shorts matched with a shirt and fashioned with a breezing jacket.

The chilly winters with leggings and trench coats are finally over announcing time for a little skin show. The onset of spring begins with a sporty season not only as we await the Common Wealth games this year but fashion also perspires in easy fabrics, sport jerseys, pleated tennis skirts, and folded shorts. As the spring goes in full bloom designers garnish the platter with an eclectic mix and juxtaposition of patters and prints. The utility clothing this season enthralls the throne with army inspired garments parading the ramp globally. The whiff of cool breeze that will raise the temperature, surfaces with bra revealing cocktail gowns sweeping the night luster. And finally when the city transcends from spring to hot summer the prints and pleats vanish leaving the soothing whites to play with the sun.

On your marks: the sports outlook gains importance in easy and relaxed silhouettes that facilitate movement and speed. Some designers have actually focused on the utility of sportswear whereas if you are not a sports person at you can pick one sports inspired garments. The Narendra Kumar double breasted jacket and cropped trousers in brown colour with sheen calls for a salute. Ritu Beri’s denim printed commands the wing as a broad belt runs over it styled with innumerable neckpieces hanging down till the waistline. The final call for victory is announced by the black exaggerated lapels waist-coat and bow tie by Rajesh Pratap Singh.

Erogenous bra: Assuming the erogenous to have shifted further below the cleavage it’s about showing your sexy bra through transparency. A classic grey gown in silk by Dhruv and Pallavi has interlacing details on the bust. The ferozi bra shines from beneath in georgette kurta by Meera Muzaffar Ali and a floral printed bra shows in Sonam Dubal’s black transparent kurta. Ritu Beri too styles a pearl embellished bra over denim.

The pristine: The white purifies it all and deceives the sun best. The silhouettes in this range flow free with the air and form a trapeze on the body form. Wendell Rodricks inspired by the sea and its serenity muses a silk trapeze knee length gown. And the all white structured trapeze shift dress by Ankita Anjana adds to the oomph. Rohit Bal flatters the curves wrapped in yards of white fabric with a little sparkle of red on the shoulders. Sum it up this winter as there is an appeal for asymmetry & sculpture, laces & velvet, bark brown & midas gold and padded shoulders & zippers. The hemline pronounces an easy shift between ankle length and mid thigh length paired with a coat whose length is in near competition with your dress. Waist line is definitely much above the original waistline and no trespassing has been noticed so far and so forth, the easily noticeable power laden stand-alone collars and extra padded outwardly protruding shoulders joins the front.
