Through a series of short films, “Inside Chanel” looks back at the story of Gabrielle Chanel and the iconic creations that generated a legend and built the House of CHANEL.

Starting today, the fourteenth chapter “The vocabulary of fashion” offers an invitation to discover the elements of CHANEL identification created by Gabrielle Chanel and constantly revisited by Karl Lagerfeld.

vi

With her rebellion and discoveries, her audacity and the childhood memories of the orphanage, and also with her romances, Gabrielle Chanel set in place a new language in fashion and a style that still today never ceases to perpetuate itself thanks to Karl Lagerfeld’s creativity: “Mademoiselle Chanel handed us down a style. And the style she advocated never dates. Chanel’s success was knowing how to get across the elements of her identity. Timeless music built around five notes by which women instantly recognize the essence of Chanel: luxury and refinement.” says the designer.

The quilted handbag inspired by men’s satchels, the little black dress, costume jewellery, the camellia, the chain, the two-tone shoe, the pearl and tweed are all today integral elements of the CHANEL vocabulary.

Day 3 of London Fashion Week highlights the return of Alexander Mcqueen after a decade, now headed by designer Sarah Burton, moved its womenswear showcase from Paris to London Fashion Week.

a
The showcase opened with a lineup of black leather ensembles embroidered with large shimmering butterflies, lip motifs and stopwatches followed by black feather skirts layered over flared trousers and tuxedo jackets. There were also sheerest evening gowns and capes in crystals and embroidery, lastly a feather concoction of a gown was excellent.

aaVivienne Westwood’s burgundy porkpie hats were noteworthy besides her androgynous lineup which included slouchy dresses and loose fitting jackets, magnificent evening gowns. Mulberry famous handbags came with heavy metal makeover, although were small and had an unfinished look. While the clothes were dominated by shoulder-to-ankle slits, frills and ruffs.

aaaPreen’s Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi collection was inspired by the English poet Edith Sitwell, giving us a whimsical collection of softly muted tapestry florals in quilted velvet and chiffons, oversized coats with frilly hems and dresses with fitted corsets. It was just about making nice clothes,” said Paul Smith after his show, as he showcased skinny silhouettes but very square, there were duster style single-breasted coats paired with loose and cropped trousers.

The second day of London Fashion Week AW 16 had Sibling, Simone Rocha, Emilia Wickstead, Zandra Rhodes, Gareth Pugh, J W Anderson and Teatum Jones.

aZandra Rhodes day’s finale was an unconventional presentation, think loose, flowing silhouettes, retro prints, pussy-bow blouses and jewel-tone colours, was well complemented by 70s style .Models wore sheer skintight body-stockings, as Sibling showcased disco wear with a trace of ’80s. There were neon blue bodysuit worn with matching headphones, micro shorts paired with cardigan, jackets worn over print dresses, rolled-up trousers and a wrap coat.

aa

Emilia Wickstead collection was inspired by the “impeccably dressed ad age of the 1960s” as she showcased high waist gowns in in earthy, rusty tones like mustard, teal, brown and moss green. Mini shift dresses, dark denim, turtlenecks too was part of the showcase..

aaaSimone Rocha showcased her crochet skills in her full length dresses there were also off shoulder dresses in sheer and light fabrics mostly in black and beige color palette. A semi-sheer long skirt decorated with black floral appliques with a short, faux-fur jacket and tweed fashion, tailored pant suits with a white lace gown was certainly unusual

aaaaGareth Pugh models were dressed to kill in vampy lipstick, dark glasses and sinister face masks. Moving on to showcase bustier dresses, trouser suits with matching coats and dramatically draped scarves in black, camel and blue color palette.

Finally London Fashion Week was much in the news at New York fashion. Day One was an incredible start to another exciting round of shows. Starting with JS Lee, presented a power dresser wardrobe of neutral-layered suiting paired with vibrant boucle tweed and a-line dresses.

aCharlotte Olympia’s first catwalk show, presented 33 pairs of glittering galactic shoes with plenty of accessories, jewellery and bags to match. While Daks the heritage British brand paired neat chignons and deep kohl eyes.

aaCharlotte Simone showcased some fantastic fur bombers, butter soft leathers and slick patents. Ryan Lo had knits of dragons and butterflies under faux fur animal stoles in pink and printed silks embellished with lace-up boots and dolly lashes.

Just a little longer until the biggest day in awards show fashion. So, what will celebrities choose to wear to the Oscars? Here are the strongest Oscars red carpet predictions by Juby Mcdonalds!

1Outfit: We will be seeing a lot of minimalistic fashion in 2016.  Jewel tones and sequins are popular this season. Colour blocking and heavy prints that dominated most of last year is been replaced by Single tone outfits with sharp and unusual neck and hemlines. Hues like mustard yellow, emerald green, tangerine, gold, turquoise and white are the colours to opt for. Let black take a back seat for now (store your LBDs for another rainy day; this is the time to shine and be noticed).

Fabrics: Silk drapes well to contour the body, use little pleats to hide unwanted lumps and bumps that we are critical about (it’s amazing how a few diagonal pleats across the tummy will immediately make you look slimmer) and we are good to go. Sequins are another way to add glamour to our nights; they will never go out of fashion. Keep it subtle in dark jewel tones and white and gold sequins will bring out the goddess in you, think Cleopatra.

2

Makeup: Kiss goodbye to heavy makeup and contouring this season. Natural makeup, smoky eyes and light lips go well with jewel toned outfits. Keep lip colour close to your natural skin tone; dark plum lips also scream sophistication.  Stay away from false eye lashes and coloured lenses; it keeps you from the natural magic. Apply a light dab of blush and shimmer to your face for the dewy look.

Hair: Avoid using too much hair product. A light wave or dead straight hair is sexy and will go well for day or night carpet events.
Accessories- Keep jewellery to minimum as you want all the attention on your gorgeous outfit. A diamond or gold cuff, a pair of dangling earring, an unusual cocktail ring (my favourite is a skull with diamantes; it’s always a talking point to break the ice at parties. Make sure it’s large enough for people to notice) and a simple clutch will add great dimension to your general look.

Common pitfalls- As mentioned earlier, try and avoid black unless its quirky, heavily made up face or hair and chunky shoes. Smile like you own the world and that’s the best advice I can give anyone. Pull yourself together with great confidence.

Kiran Rao hosted a preview of designer Urvashi Kaur’s ‘Pathika’ collection, a juxtaposition of multiple worlds and realities, in a continuous thread, telling the tale of a wanderer, as she ventures through the realms of reality, seeking and ultimately finding his own truth.

a

Veering towards luxurious minimalism in organic textiles, a controlled palette with a strong monochrome focus, forms the basis of this collection. Subtle notes of ecru, beige and dusty white intersperse with grays and soft hints of blush. Multiple layers, play with both sheer and opaque elements, with an asymmetric reassembly of geometric shapes on sheer bases, with several variations of length creating unexpected details and patterns. Volume and structure coexist and appear in the form of kimono style wraps, held by intricately detailed obis and judo belts. Peek-a-boo knife pleats are contrasted by sharp and densely placed accordion pleats, in the wide legged pants and interpretations of new age tunics.
