Day 2 of Paris Fashion Week Spring 2016 unveiled mesmerizing collections by Maison Margiela, Lemaire and Dries Van Noten to name a few.

Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant for Courrèges spring 2016 collection went back to the roots of the brand. The lineup showed variations of classic Courrèges jacket in leather, brown suede or laser-cut vinyl. There were A-line dresses and miniskirts with geometric motifs, pants and camisole slips with pleats and jeans with diagonal belt loops. Christophe Lemaire along with Sara Linh Tran showed another chic, clean collection for Lemaire. The long and loose silhouettes with that signature hint of masculinity; the boxy, avant-garde shapes with workwear leanings; and the laissez-faire attitude that came with every look emitted a sense of controlled creativity.

John Galliano mixed the idea of retrieval and utility with his own romanticism and richness for Maison Margiela’s spring lineup. There were midi-length skirts with chandelier motifs, sculpted peplum jacket, trim pantsuit, torn white cricket sweater, collared car coats, boxy tops and long evening skirts. Adam Andrascik for Guy Larochecreated a stunning spring line from Hawaiian prints and dark, military rigor. He showed leather miniskirts and high-waist denim pants with heavy chains, asymmetric tops with tropical prints and military coats with shiny little palm trees embellishment.

2

Yang Li presented a dark romantic collection for spring 2016. The range included trousers with crude edges, sweeping jackets, lace bralettes, military inflected outerwear, oversize navy coat and a mannish trench, embellished jackets and feminine tailored separates.  Cédric Charlier’s spring offering was inspired by work of British abstract painter Victor Pasmore. Cedric played with breezy pastel shades and ashes of indigo, ochre and forest green. There were white short-sleeve shirt with a mandarin collar, roomy parkas, shirt dresses, kimono-sleeved tops and powder-blue biker jacket.

3

4

Alessandro Dell’Acqua spring collection for Rochas was inspired from Gala Dalí, a highly influential force of nature in the Surrealist art scene. Alexis Mabille draw inspiration from watermelon cocktail called the Sandia Smash for his spring line. Models walked wearing red sweatshirt embroidered with a semicircle of black pips, sweeping coral silk skirt, coral silk jacket with lime green and turquoise pants, shirtdresses and lace-trimmed blouses. Paris Fashion Week Spring 2016 kicked started with a bang. Known and upcoming designers showed some very interesting and splendid spring collections.

Tuomas Merikoski for his label Aalto presented “Endless Sun” line, inspired by the Nordic mid-summer. The collection played with cuts on white dresses and asymmetric beige skirts. Sleeves were slashed at the front midway or all the way down and oversize mom jeans came with a fold detail. Models wore loose tailored suits as well as long dresses over trousers, sometimes with large jumpers on top. Nehera’s spring collection by designer Samuel Drira was beautiful amalgamation of sculpted silhouettes and soft colors like white, cream and beige. A sense of elegance came through laid-back trim pants, ankle-length skirts, asymmetrical tank tops and Asian-inspired judo-style jackets.

Each x Other’s spring offering had some romantic military and maiden references. The range showed shiny cropped officers jackets, white shirts wrapped with black lacing on the sleeves, corsets with diagonal closures on the front, slipdress and moto jacket.  Léa Peckre presented a stunning collection where she played between softness and strength. Inspired by the landscapes of David Lynch’s sci-fi movie “Dune” she showed chiffon pleated skirts with cracked geometric motifs made from panels of silk and denim. Broad-shouldered Japanese denim jacket structured with built-in belts and a Touareg blue pleated dress incorporating subtle horizontal bands of silk were outstanding.

2

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen presented a luxury lineup for The Row which was stunning and super intimate. An ivory jacket, generously cut and relaxed in fit, was worn undone over a scant triangle bra; a gauzy sheer dress floated in gentle pleats over a bra top and miniskirt, and a black slipdress came precisely chopped well above midthigh. Designer Kunihiko Morianga’s spring collection for Anrealage was about reflections. He showcased pleated black dress with a top that reflected the skirt, a ruffled black dress which revealed it to be fluorescent green, gray monotone knitwear came with illuminating turquoise stripes and white top-cum-skirt combos with quirky circular cutouts that assumed a three-dimensional quality.

3

Anthony Vaccarello’s spring lineup unveiled varied and stunning looks like Army green canvas jacket with matching wrap miniskirt., conservative crisp white shirts with porcelain blue prints paired with classic blue and red and white sequined dresses with pixelated face motifs. Simon Porte Jacquemus’s ingenious collection for his brand Jacquemus featured clothes that were raw, cute and sexy. Models wore Navy jackets, white shirts and red minidresses and skirts that were dissected into halves, occasionally quarters.

4

Danish Designer Anne Sofie Madsen spring 2016 collection showed outfits that covered the body and exposed it at the same time. The range featured oversize trench, palazzo pants made from curling seamless denim panels, embellished nude tulle top, flesh-toned dresses, and beige maxi trench with undulating black-lined panels on the lower half. Koche’s spring line was beautiful mélange of couture techniques and streetwear silhouettes. Gracing the ramp were designs like oversize denim bomber jacket embroidered with scraps of tulles, sports bra festooned with colorful sequins, slick black tuxedo jacket, nylon sweatpants, body-hugging tank tops and tennis dresses.

1Delighted to be part of, The Fabric of India, exhibit to be held at the V&A museum, London, in October, designer duo Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla says, India has an unsurpassed arts and crafts legacy. We still have the artisans, and full knowledge of every technique. It is this wealth that we as artists must safeguard and build upon. India is our Eternal Muse. We are unabashedly in love with our textile and embroidery legacy. It is our passion and mission is to revive, regenerate and reinvent craftsmanship and give it new expression and relevance in today’s world and for the future.

Their showcase will consist of the following:

Real Mirror Ghaghra:

Embroideries from Gujarat have always fascinated the designers  and they have work extensively on both thread and mirror work techniques from the State. The duo loved the play of mirror and colours that are quintessentially folksy and festive.  The flared 10 panel ghagra, took two months to make and weighs over 10 kgs as a set which includes a dupatta, blouse and stole.

2

Chikan sari:

Chikan was invented as a craft technique by the Mughals. Featuring a host of stitches and motifs, it was the most intricate and delicate of embroideries, and adorned the homes and clothes of Royalty and Aristocracy. Cut to the 1990s and Chikankari had been reduced to crude stitches, haphazard motifs, essayed on cheap fabrics and fit for only casual mass market fashion. The designers  spent three years training artisans in Lucknow to restore it to its rightful place as the most Haute of all Couture.
