01_INSIDE_CHANEL_CHAPTER_12From Gabrielle Chanel to Karl Lagerfeld, discover these mythical addresses which have forged the legend of the House and where the story of CHANEL continues to be written today.

While it all began in rue Cambon, first at N°21 where Gabrielle Chanel opened her millinery shop in 1910, and then at N°31, the address of a lifetime.

Number 31 is home to the salons where Gabrielle Chanel would present her collections, the ateliers where the seamstresses fashioned her designs, the legendary mirror-lined staircase and even her apartment. And still today the myth continues on. It’s here at this very address and in the same Studio that Karl Lagerfeld continues to design his collections for CHANEL. These days the elegant understated salons restyled by the designer, welcome the celebrities and Haute Couture clients who come for their fittings. The staircase is still there and the ateliers continue to bring the design sketches to life.

500Then it’s on to the Ritz, where Gabrielle Chanel took up residence in 1937 and remained until her death. From the dining room which looks on rue Cambon she could see customers on their way to her boutique. Her suite overlooks place Vendôme, whose octagonal shape inspired her for the stopper of the N°5 perfume bottle. Today, the House of CHANEL’s Fine Jewellery and Watches is installed at N°18 place Vendôme.

Next comes the Grand Palais, the theatrical backdrop to the CHANEL runway shows. Beneath its gigantic nave, Karl Lagerfeld’s collections offer a moment of dreams, season after season.

2The iconic and highly famed footwear brand, Jimmy Choo announced its initial public offering in London this month. Owned by JAB Holdings, the brand looks forward to make a $1 million worth of public offering.

While hiring Bank of America Corp. to manage its sale, Choo will also retain HSBC Holdings as interest grows in the high-end shoe market.

Meanwhile, JAB is said to be considering selling a 25 percent stake in the brand, and also looks after Labelux properties including Zagliani and Bally.

Finally, the showbiz and glitz of the New York Fashion Week comes to an end as it approaches its final day with some of the finest luxury labels, namely Ralph Lauren, Dorin Negrau, J. Mendel and Calvin Klein.

The day kicked off with Ralph Lauren who stepped in with an extremely blingy and exclusive party wear and evening ensembles. The designer went very minimalistic and mild with the colour palette which included safari green, dark orange, bright yellow, violet, mahogany and pure white. Besides, the collection also featured a few couture wear, which included mystical gowns, sleek velvet dresses, fish tail and free flowing gowns, and glossy off shoulder party wear tops to name a few. Structured silhouettes along with the comfort factor kept intact were the main essences of the collection.

580Speaking of Dorin Negrau, his collection was way too differentiated than any of the collections presented in the entire fashion week. Creating a gothic and an eerie environment on the runway, the designer’s creations mostly included the darkest shades of blacks and greys. Wearability of the garments, however, was restricted to some classy and sophisticated evening wear. Fashion in the right sense, filled with saturated drama, attitude and glamour, was what the collection reflected on.

J. Mendel, the fifth generation French atelier came up with yet another novel and individualistic take for luxury evening wear and part wear ensembles. Filled with easy to wear creations, the collection also included the lavish fur embellishments, free flowing gowns, see through fabrics and metallic finishes, naming a few. A sleek glossy leather orange dress, comfortably fit and embellished with a stylish lower waist belt, was the main highlight of the collection.

The very selective and minimalistic designer, Calvin Klein stepped in next with an exclusive collection replete of formals and office wears. Slim high waist belts, leather jackets, zippers and leather dresses were among the major highlights. Keeping glossy leather as the base fabric, the designer used a very dark and dull scheme of colours, which included maroon, black, navy blue and grey. Glimpses of bling and sparkling elements could be spotted. All in all, the collection was meant essentially for all formal and office occurrences.

This brings an end to the highly glamorous and enthusiastic New York Fashion Week. Progressing further, the fashion and style freak fashionistas now await the upcoming London Fashion Week, for some new inventions and fashionable transformations from these leading designers of the world.
