The Nautch of Fez finds its soul in two of JJ Valaya’s favorite countries: India and Morocco. Every year, Valaya combines the energy of his constant inspiration, India with that of another culturally charged domain, in this case, Morocco. This year’s bridal collection traverses the Moroccan timeline and visits the influences of its many occupants: The Phoenicians, the Romans, The Arabs, The nomadic Berbers, The Turks and the Spaniards and then infuses them with subtle elements of the Indian Nautch girls of the past.

This seasons crisp couture collection is in signature weaves, Crepes, Dupion, Georgettes and fine velvets and champions various techniques ranging from Digital printing, Appliqué, Laser burning and the fabled Valaya embroideries to create a perfect blend of the past with cutting edge contemporary chic. The color story dabbles in antique, metallic and neutral tones in symphony with Indian brights while Grandeur, intrigue and drama come together in silhouettes.

Shekhawati, one of the oldest and most beautiful hand painted living cities in the world with a rich history of over 350 years of architecture, decoration and sheer magnificence is the inspiration behind Suneet Varma’s 2014 bridal collection.

Traditional Indian with a modern twist, it has lot of reds and fuschia pinks that lie at the very heart of Rajasthan. Mirrorwork embellishment with large borders in thread embroidery, stark white and ivory with color on color aari embroidery and dark navy and cobalt blue with antique and burnt golds and copper thread embellishments. The collection also had handmade accessories in beaten metallic golds in exaggerated earrings and hair pins.

Drawing inspiration from the poetic tenderness and mysticism, Chanel’s Autumn Winter 2014 make up collection employs the various spectrums of pink and its shades along with a deep and a feminine colour palette.

To be launched on 18th August, the collection focuses on eyes as its utmost priority, they being the major inspiration for romantic poetry. Transformed in accordance to one’s changing emotions, the eye shadows can be used as smudged shades to give an extremely striking yet highlighting look. Colour palette ranges from shimmery pinks, bright pinks and raspberries to purples, black currents and sparkling goldens.

With a similar approach applied for the lips, the lip colours have mostly been given the glossy shimmery look which goes in perfect harmony with the eyes and the nails.

The nail paints, however, are more concentrated towards the sophisticated side of a woman’s personality, replete of matte colours like soft pink, an anthracite grey mixed with blue and a gorgeous pearl. While the complexion foundation is given the highlighting rosewood shade, the entire make up collection completes full circle to reflect the inner essences and ever changing hidden emotions of a dynamic and confident woman.

Taking his ardour for fashion to the next level, Lalit Dalmia held a preview of his new collection ‘The Magic of Greek Myths’ at The Mansion, Garden of Five Senses. Inspired by the Greek gods and the myths around them, the collection is the perfect interpretation of the richness and beauty of Greek mythology.

Keeping in mind the beautiful Helen of Troy and Pan, god of nature and the wild, it has vintage cuts with flowing silhouettes and trails. Rich fabrics in black, gold, violet, pink and green, adorned by luxurious zardozi keep the royalty intact.
