Longines, the famous Swiss watchmaker, celebrated its 180 years of watchmaking with the launch of its new collection, The Longines Saint Imier Collection, at The Taj Palace in New Delhi, recently.

The collection which was formally launched by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the Longines Ambassadress in India, takes its inspiration from the foundations of watchmaking tradition on which the brand, known by its winged hourglass trademark, has been built.

The exceptional timepieces which form this collection feature a common theme – that is the shape of the case – inspired by a model dating from 1945. The sleek lines and the distinctive lugs provide these new models with a subtle balance between old and new designs.

Speaking on the occasion, Charles Villoz, Vice President and Head of International Sales of Longines, said, “Longines and the town of Saint-Imier are unthinkable without each other. The Longines Saint-Imier Collection embodies a full measure of genuine tradition and heritage. Drawing on the company’s very roots, it nonetheless benefits from the latest technological refinements. The Longines Saint Imier Collection is engineered to tread the line between classical and contemporary.”

The two iconic fashion brands, Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent, finally end their tug-of-war over red sole, after 18 playful months of mudslinging.

In a recent happening, YSL dismissed its claims against Christian Louboutin by filing papers at the Southern District Court of New York. In lieu Louboutin issued a statement reading, “We have considered this case closed since last September when the court of appeals rendered their ruling re-affirming the validity of our trademark rights on the red sole in the United States, iconic signature of Christian Louboutin over the past twenty years.”

“The ruling deprived Yves Saint Laurent of its claim for cancellation of our trademark. We are delighted to note that Yves Saint-Laurent have instead decided “to refocus their energies on its business and creative designs.””, it continued.

This whole YSL-Louboutin fracas began in April 2011 when Louboutin accused YSL for imitating its trademark red-sole shoe and sought the damages of $1 million.
