The season of drifts and shifts sees the French fashion house of Azzaro and its Creative Director Mathilde Castello Branco moving in different directions.

The French-Brazilian designer who has had previously worked at Lanvin and Hermes, had replaced Vanessa Seward to join the brand known for its fragrances in September 2011. After working for a year for Azzaro he moved on different terrains. His successor will shortly be announced by the brand.

The iconic brand on the name of its founder Loris Azzaro was undertaken by Andorran Group in 2006, making the brand retail across the world.

The luxury thrives on hedonists and their new home is Kazakhstan – the new luxury destination of Central Asia with Almaty, the financial, commercial and cultural Capital of the country feeding the luxury hunger pangs.

After China, the world’s leading luxury brands are moving quickly into Central Asia to tap into the rapidly emerging economies of the region, with a cluster of brands opening stores in Kazakhstan. The newly opened Esentia Mall in Almaty comes as a wind of change. The opening had supermodel Eva Herzigova as the guest of honor.

The region boasts of first ever store of Saks Fifth Avenue in Asia, located at this mall only. Besides there are other brands including Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Stella Mc Cartney, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Tommy Hilfiger.

The reason behind this luxury growth in Kazakhstan lies in the fact that the country has this innate spirit of nomadism which many luxury brands are trying to bank upon. Like Louis Vuitton the brand famous for its art of travel with style and elegance already has many Kazakhs as its customers. Moreover, Kazakhs are travelling across the world and indulging in luxury.

The world’s ninth largest country Kazakhstan has a relatively small population of 16.6 million, and over the last 15 years its economy has expanded rapidly on the back of oil and gas exploration. Its per capita GDP has grown ten-fold over those years and, according to Forbes business magazine; there are 12,000 millionaires in the country – equivalent to one millionaire for every 1,383 people – and five billionaires living in Almaty.  So the shift of the luxury brands in the region seems to be a smart move.
