Tanishq’s Carnatic TunesIt’s the divinity of the Carnatic notes of singer M.S Subbulakshmi which made Tanishq launch a special edition of gold coins to commemorate her.

Paying tribute to this Carnatic singer, who was known as much for her humanitarian work, as for music, Tanishq unveiled a limited edition of gold coins, weighing 2gms, 4gms and 8gms with an engraved image of her. Also on offer with the purchase of coins is a book of memoirs that captures significant landmarks of the legend’s life and gives readers an insight into her musical journey.

The coin was launched in Chennai by acclaimed Carnatic classical vocalists Dr. M Balamurlikrishna and Sudha Raghunathan with an aim of making contribution toward the singer’s favored causes of cancer and diabetes research. The proceeds will go to The Cancer Institute and the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre, Chennai.

Speaking about the initiative, CK Venkataraman, COO, Tanishq said, “M.S. Subbulakshmi epitomizes the rich cultural heritage of our country. Carnatic classical music forms an integral part of our tradition. This initiative from Tanishq is a tribute to this art form as it pays tribute to the evergreen maestro and the phenomenal contribution she has made to the world of music.”

The Eastern world seems fascinating the Western luxurious labels like never before. The changing dimensions of the luxury markets and rich heritage of East make Gucci lately ensconce itself in one such rapidly growing Korean market.

The Italian luxury brand of late positioned itself in the region as a brand to look out for through various social initiatives and aggressive marketing strategies. One such move sees Gucci investing in developing the fashion talent while making a commitment to preservation of the Korean heritage through different sponsorships and scholarship programs.

The opening ceremony of Gucci’s special exhibit at the Korean Furniture Museum, featuring 70 archival pieces from Gucci Museo, entitled “Timeless Touch of Craftsmanship: Korean Heritage Meets 91 Years of Gucci Archive”, saw the brand announcing a five year sponsorship agreement with National Trust Korea to preserve traditional Korean heritage through a total donation of KRW 500 million. The donation will be used for the projects of the trust that focus on preservation of historical Korean sites and cultural resources in Korea.

On the other hand, the exhibit running from April 26 to May 12, 2012 shows striking harmony between the Italian craftsmanship of Gucci’s archival pieces and Korean artisans’ worked as seen through approximately 1,500 furniture and accessory items that boast 300 years of history in Korean traditional houses, known as ‘Hanok.’

Gucci’s 14 years of high fashion and social endeavors in the region are put by Patrizio di Marco, Gucci President and CEO, in a manner, “Korea is an essential market for Gucci. We are dedicated not only to serving our sophisticated Korean customers with exclusive services and products, but also to benefiting the Korean community through on-going social investments.”

Another initiative by the brand is voiced by its Creative Director who lately announced 5-year scholarship initiative to support university students who are majoring in fashion-related fields to develop their talent and career. On this special occasion, Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini appeared in front of 450 senior university students for a question-and-answer session titled, ‘In Conversation with Frida Giannini’.

The program in partnership with Korea Student Aid Foundation will see Gucci awarding bursary aid for five students for a five-year period. The program will not only help students financially, but will also support their career aspirations in fashion by providing them with the exclusive opportunity to visit Gucci’s leather goods factory in Florence and fashion show in Milan.

On the occasion Frida put, “Today I was overwhelmed by the passion Korean students have for achieving their academic and professional goals, and I am delighted to support these talented future generations with our new Gucci Scholarship Program. In addition to financial aid, we are especially proud to offer career support that will bring students to Italy to gain international experience in the fashion industry.”

Manish ki life ke to lag GayiDelhi based fashion designer, Manish Tripathi who is the creative head for a  fashion label antarDESI  has ventured into the Bollywood circuit for the first time by designing clothes and styling the stars of the upcoming movie ‘Life ke Toh Lag Gayi’, releasing on the April 27, 2012.

Pradhuman Singh who plays Ajay Ghosh is a must watch character. He has been portrayed as a rockstar and Manish’s inspiration to dress him came from Jim Morrisson. The red sunglasses that Pradhuman has donned are my personal favorite, says Manish.  While Ranveer Shorey, plays the character of Amol Ganguly in the movie has been portrayed as a Bengali chef. Considering the brief from the director, the attire that Ranveer carries in the movie is quite simple with little emphasis on the accessories (sunglasses, watches, etc.)

When asked to highlight the factors he kept in mind while designing the clothes, Manish said, “what caught my eye was the character based nature of the movie, wherein there are 4parallel off-beat stories running at the same time. The challenge was to dress each and every character to portray each one’s strength and at the same time make them look exactly as the director has visualized”

Directed by debutant Rakesh Mehta, "Life Ki Toh Lag Gayi", features actors like Kay Kay Menon, Pradhuman Singh, Ranvir Shorey, Manu Rishi and Neha Bhasin inthe lead roles. “The moment I saw his work, I knew Manish was the designer for the movie. The outfits have come out beautifully and have brought out the visual appeal of this project”, added Rakesh Mehta, director of the movie.

Manish who is soon coming up with a series on Traffic Ettequites is a caricature artiste and has done two major exhibitions one in 2010 on the Common Wealth Games named ‘Work in Progress’ and another in 2011 on the World Fashion named ‘Fashion Tin’. A passionate designer with an inclination towards creative pattern-making that produces the most flattering fits on the body, his design philosophy is fresh and minimalistic. Through his unique style, he wishes to express the rampant corruption present in the country today.
