DIY Shirts RecipesGucci is pleased to announce a USD 1.15 million donation to UNICEF’s ‘Schools for Africa’ initiative in the name of its children’s collection. Founded in 2004 in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Peter Kramer Stiftung, UNICEF’s ‘Schools for Africa’ initiative aims to increase access to quality basic education for millions of children in Africa, with a special emphasis on helping the most disadvantaged.

Inspired by a sense of commitment to the world’s children, and in the spirit of the company’s ‘Forever Now’ philosophy, to date Gucci has contributed over USD 10 million to UNICEF and is currently one of the largest corporate donors to ‘Schools for Africa’. Previously in 2010, Gucci committed USD 1 million to UNICEF in celebration of the initial launch of its children’s collection.

Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini said, ‘Ever since we first worked with UNICEF in 2005, it has been inspiring to lead this partnership and ensure its growth over the years. Now, we are proud to extend Gucci’s commitment to UNICEF by making a further USD 1.15 million contribution to the many children they serve. When I visited Malawi in November 2009, I saw the difficult situation children face in sub-Saharan Africa where every third child doesn’t get the chance to go to school. I saw that UNICEF’s ‘Schools for Africa’ initiative is successfully giving more children access to a good education, providing a start in life that so many of us take for granted. Through our commitment, we hope to help these children who may otherwise not have the chance to go to school.’

Nicola’s Digital WorldIf you wonder about Lady Gaga’s unmatched eccentricity, then chalk it up to Nicola Formichetti, a force behind the bizarreness of pop star minus her stage persona.

The 34 years old stylist turned creative director of Thierry Mugler is an emerging fashion influence worldwide, gaining popularity from his outlandish collaboration with Lady Gaga since her dawn as the monarch of high fashion. A fantasist Nicola and his otherworldly theatrical sensibilities might create wonders but it’s the digital savvy in him which rocks the cradle.

Quite unlikely, where everyone would imagine Lady Gaga to be his muse, Nicola finds digital media inspiring enough to churn his creative juices. In a recent interview to a fashion magazine, Nicola says that he is using the digital world to invigorate the house of Mugler.

Nicola’s Digital World

Though his pre-show and post-show tweeting might be blamed of losing exclusivity but it’s his loyalty to fans which keeps him going. So he blogs live before, during and after his runway shows, allowing folks at home, including 100,000 plus twitter followers a preview before any fashion editor gets to see it.

Its Nicola’s imaging of social media and digital world as the chief proponent what keeps him heading towards the digital revolution where he reaches out to his fans just by a click and turning eccentricity into a popular culture.

Either its fashion or food, when cooked at home, it’s distinctively close-to-the-heart. The ‘Cooked’ Shirts by Etro, using run of the mill eatables are a testament to it. All you need is a white shirt and a nose to sniff some good quality coffee beans and blueberries.

The project features three distinct styles to morph your classy white shirt into a fashion statement, all in the comfort of your Kitchen, and pockets of course. These reworked shirts stamp the charm and exclusivity of DIY fashion, with no compromise with style at all.

DIY Shirts Recipes

Have you ever thought that those slippery coffee nuggets you play with on your kitchen shelves can create some interesting fashion, besides long nights, sexual drive and all? Of course they can. All you need to do is to grind some 900 grams of coffee beans and prepare 6 liters of coffee and immerse your white cotton shirt into the mixture fully. Let the shirt soak for 8 hours and hang it to dry.

If fawn doesn’t interest you much, then try blueberries. Garner a kilogram of blueberries and form a layer of them with 200gms of sugar in an ovenproof baking dish. Pour 150 ml of blueberry juice over the bottom layer of berries and sugar. Fold the shirt and place it on the blueberry layer in the baking dish. Further cover the shirt with remaining berries and 200gms of more sugar. Pour 150ml of blueberry juice over the shirt and berries. Bake in preheated oven at a temperature of 170 degrees for about 40 minutes. Finally remove the shirt from oven and hang it on a hanger to let it cool.

The very last of the three DIY processes is to cook a shirt in salt. This time you need some 6 kilograms of coarse cooking salt and pour it into an ovenproof baking dish to form a 1 cm thick layer. Fold the shirt and place it on the top of the layer in the dish. Completely cover the shirt with remaining cooking salt and bake it in the oven at the temperature of 180 degrees for about 40 minutes. Afterwards remove the shirt and let it cool.
