Of late the glam brigade of Mumbai had a reason to be all decked up, as Inega launched its 2012 calendar at Olive, Mumbai.

Quite aesthetically shot, calendar features images of some of the catwalk queens posing for the delight of its collectors. Mostly done in black and white, the shoot brilliantly brings the old world charm together with modern chutzpah.

Indulging in scrumptious gourmet and cocktails, the who’s who of the city making it to the launch included Designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed, Anil Chopra, Pradeep Hirani, Umesh Jivnani, Naresh of Shivan & Naresh, Sonal Chauhan, Simran Kaur Mundi, Sunny Gill, Aarti Surendranath, Bhawna Sharma and many more.
 
Nothing beats an intellectual company over scrumptious gourmet. And when intelligentsia is comprised of some of the famous contemporary writers, it goes memorable. One such substantial evening was recently hosted by Roohi & Chetan Jaikishan where literary conversations and cocktails churned every grey cell while Italian meals delighted the taste buds.

Held at Indigo, Mumbai, the evening was in honor of some of the most prolific authors and writers like William Darymple, Patrick French, Mohsin Hameid, Chetan Bhagat, Ashwini Sanghi, Vikram Chandra, Vinod Mehta, Tarun Tejpal and Namita Devidayal amongst others – all chiefly hailing from subcontinent.

Over palpable exchanges from the world of food, books, current events and more, the glitterati of the city met with literati. A young oomph model with an oriental approach who believes being belligerent to fulfill her dreams rather than giving up depicts Carol Humtsoe. Fashionfad.in here tries to reveal the inner traits of the model which relics in disguise behind her poised charm.

Tell us something about your early life and academics?
I was boyish in the most literal way, bruised knees and not the cutest kid lol…. I finished my 12th somehow, it’s beyond me to study but I haven’t stopped learning though.

The dazzling heights you touched make you stand apart from the rest. From being a simple starry eyed lasso to a ramp scorcher, how modeling happened to you?
Its not easy to be an oriental looking model in the Indian modeling scene, my looks are far from the conventional look so that was and is still my biggest challenge, but only losers give up and I am not one. The fact is that my passion is stronger than my setback which sets me apart.

Having been in one of the most glamorous industry how do you see fashion from as an insider’s point of view?
It’s like any other industry with its ups and downs, the politics, the gossips and the stress; it’s just that we are more out there, including high heels and lipsticks.

When and what was your first modeling assignment?
I started modeling in 2008 as a teenager and my first assignment was a fashion show in Delhi for some trade fair, I can roughly remember.

What’s your take on Indian modeling industry? How different you find it from its global parallels?
 It’s great the way it is though we have a long way to go, I hope that it becomes more open to change and experiment, be more radical and interesting. I think it’s just a matter of time and we will be on the right track

What are your passions other than modeling?
I love traveling.

What do you love and hate the most about modeling?
I love the glamour part of it and the dreams it sells, I hate early mornings and waiting.

How is Carol as a person? Tell us something about yourself?
I am a total goof, it doesn’t come easily for me to be pretty and elegant, I am a blend of blunt, fun and wicked.

Modeling comes with such a short shelf life. So what plans have you held for future?
I would love to open a crazy clothing store.

What’s your style statement?
I wear anything, I don’t know if I have any sort of style agenda lol!! But yes I do like it in an effortless and fun mode.

Which designers have you walked nationally and internationally?
Varun Bahl, Atsu, Abdul Haldar, etc.

Any guilty pleasure-
Well what’s the point of feeling guilty after doing it, but I have a lot of things I take pleasure in and I am not telling…. lol

What has been the most poignant moment of your life?
I am too spaced out; I am waiting for one probably.

Last week Pink city set a war of colors as designer Manish Malhotra showcased for Jaipur’s new couture destination ‘Miraangi’. With its magnificent palaces and royal lineage Jaipur has always been at the ground zero of India’s world acclaimed jewellery affaire. Now, it’s contemporary couture wear digging its claws deeper into the city which is quite accustomed of appreciating luxury in its true essence.

Lately, being all smitten by Manish’s festive collection and the changing couture line of the city, fashionfad got in conversation with Vrinda Agrawal of ‘Miraangi’ – decoding Jaipur and its couture indulgence. Here is a tete-a-tete with a young entrepreneur who recently shifted to Jaipur from Mumbai, with a treasure trove of modern luxury to only enrich the city’s deep rooted heritage.

Can you tell us about the journey of Miraangi …
Miraangi opened its doors to pink city in April 2010. It is a 3000 square feet fashion haven in Jaipur stocking designer wear and accessories. Miraangi means the rising rays of Sun, and since our launch last year in we have gradually risen and shone bright with the launch of ‘Manish Malhotra Couture’.


How did the concept of a couture boutique in Jaipur originate?
‘Miraangi Couture’ is a store within Miraangi, stocking couture wear designers like Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi, Manish Arora and Rajdeep Ranawat to name a few. Apart from stocking their prêt line at the store, we will be concentrating on customization and personal appointments with the designers. Clients are encouraged to take prior appointments, apart from viewing the stock .We will also carry designer samples and look books to aid customization. We felt there was a miss in this segment and clients had to travel elsewhere which now Miraangi fulfills.

Manish’s show in Jaipur created ripples in the fashion circle. How did Jaipur respond to it?
Manish Malhotra and Miraangi both together completely took Jaipur by storm. Jaipurites had never earlier witnessed a fashion show of this magnitude and with such finesse. Since all the models were of Manish’s choice and flown in from Mumbai, it further enhanced the frenzy. There was almost a crowd of over 750 people who were purely invitees.


What do you think about Tier II cities like Jaipur as the market of couture wear? How much potential does it have?
I think Jaipur has a lot of potential. It is the premier II tier city in India and has also now become a major wedding destination. Although Jaipurites are a little hesitant to experiment with new cuts and styles, but that will slowly change once they will be exposed to the latest trends and it is made available to them in their own city by Miraangi. In such cities people need to be exposed to fashion which suits them. This is the challenge that our team is constantly working on with each client personally.


Is Jaipur a Trend driven society? I mean when royals have their own peculiarities, and not-so-trend driven upper middle class like Delhi & Mumbai, how do you source garments for your store? Is it more of ethnic wear?
Jaipur in not a very trend driven society at the moment, they like to stick to known labels and safe silhouettes. They are yet very traditional in their thinking and prefer a lot of embroideries and bright colours. When I source for the store I select designers which deliver all the drama without being over the top. I also have to be very conscious about the pricing. Ethic wear is yet one of the top sellers but it is changing, Manish got an overwhelming response at the show as well at the store, which means that the palettes are slowly changing.


Which other designers does ‘Miraangi’ houses currently?
Miraangi currently is stocking all of India’s top end designers like Manish Malhotra , Sabyasachi, Anamika Khanna, Manish Arora, Cue by Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, Pankaj & Nidhi, Namrata Joshipura, Kiran Uttam Ghosh, Rajdeep Ranawat, Am Pm, Dozakh, Rewaz and Pratima Gaurav to name a few.


What are your further expansion plans? Which other cities on radar?
At the moment we are focusing on Jaipur and acquainting Jaipurites with different designers. We are yet a young establishment and would like to set all systems working perfectly at Jaipur before venturing out. With the constant support of all designers, we would definitely look at expansion by the mid of next year.

The 90’s popular Jigsaw Menswear of London is all set to do a grand come back by the February, 2012. Frances Walker well known as the ex- in charge of the menswear section at the ace Nicole Farhi will be heading Jigsaw Menswear this time as the labels design executive. The menswear collection will be showcased in 20 varied Jigsaw outlets.

Jigsaw Menswear was earlier headed by Chris Bailey and owned by John Robinson. The brand which was once admired for its range of reasonable and youthful collection suddenly vanished from the scene in the year 2002. The brand with its high-waisted leather jeans, V-neck jumpers, formal shirts, terry toweling T-shirts and nylon suits was a great hit of the 1990’s. It could be better regarded as a common man’s brand producing designer collections at an amazingly low-priced rate.  Fabrics that the brand used to craft its garments were subtle and of high quality. But right now it stands nowhere; it has to retrieve its magic all over again to fit itself into the big competition.

With proceeds of £15million in the year 1998, all of a sudden the brand was taken over by Chris Bailey and re-christened as Uth. Slowly it started losing its essence and became non-affordable for the local mass. After three years of endeavor with its re- christened name the brand came with an expiry in the early 2000.

The label at the moment is still possessed by its original proprietor John Robinson. This time the brand will be introducing pre-washed jeans, shorts, amorphous jackets, shirts and cotton jumpers with an incredibly casual approach in the assistance of walker.  Checks, Stripes, polka dots add to the upcoming Menswear by Jigsaw. 

Jigsaw along with its assortments will be displaying accessories which are being crafted in alliance with the esteemed, UK labels Sanders and Chapmans. Sanders and Chapmans are both known for its fêted handcrafted bags and canvas.

When one of the fashion’s best men take a holy Indian dip, world is warranted to take notice of the heritage the country has been nurturing since centuries. Canali, Hermes and Louis Vuitton have already had been through this way, now its Chanel embracing Indian lavishness.

The very recent showcasing by Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel came up in the mode of India and its colors. The jewel encrusted Chanel pre fall 2012 collection titled, ‘Paris-Bombay’ at Paris Grand Palais explored Indian magnificence with a twist of Chanel.

With Indian banquet,high tea treat and crystal chandeliers, Chanel catwalk was a total Indian extravaganza with heavily embroidered Nehru jackets, churidars, bandhgala jackets and sari like draped garments – mainly done in the ivory, gold and red. Accessorizing them was a range of chokers, nose rings and chunky gold and silver jewellery.

Lagerfeld dedicated this collection to the craftsmen who manufacture for Chanel while describing India as a country where even the poor have dignity.

Taj Lands End hosted the Mercedes-Benz World Catwalk India, connecting fashion across boundaries, by providing Indian designers with an opportunity to showcase internationally. In continuation with its association with several successful fashion events in the past, this fashion spectacle truly reflected the ideologies of Taj Lands End and reiterated the brand’s focus to promote international fashion in India. 

The show comprised of prominent London-based international designers namely Mark Fast, Issa, Felder Felder and Todd Lynn. In addition the highly acclaimed Indian design duo, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna exhibited their latest collection. The stand-alone show allowed the world renowned designers to showcase key looks from their Spring/Summer 2012 collections. The Indian Chairs for this spectacular show included, Aki Narula, leading Indian fashion designer, Marc Robinson, popular model and actor, Sujal Shah, CEO of FREECULTR and former VP and Head of Fashion for IMG India and Emmanuel Balayer.
 
A warm Sunday was rejoiced by Riyaaz Amlani on the juncture of his setting a bough of the award winning label Smoke House Deli in Mumbai. The label for its Delhi bistro was honored with the UK’s prestigious Restaurant and Bar Design Awards 2010. 

From the labels Plum & Star Anise Coolers and Cucumber Martinis which are referred as its signature imbibes to flavorsome banquet which included salads, breads, smoked meats, pastas, eggs to order, sandwiches and desserts with various other lip smacking delicacies were served to keep the guests amused. 

To enjoy the flavor of Delhi in Mumbai, Sheena Sippy, Uday & Charu Benegal, Anushka Manchanda, VJ Bani, Sapna Bhavnani, Kiran Salaskar with wife Sandali, Shibani Kashyap, Carol Gracias, Shayan Munshi, Yudhishthir Urs, Rashmi Uday Singh, Kanchi, Kaul, Reemma Sen, Lina Ashar, Parvez Damania, Aditya Hitkari, Divya Palat and DJ Pearl with many other were present at the instigation the previous Sunday.
 

To mark its 90th anniversary, Gucci hosted a fashionable cocktail evening at its Mumbai boutique to celebrate the Artisan Corner, an exclusive presentation of Gucci’s famous Florentine craftsmanship. The craftsmen assembled four signature Gucci handbags, the New Bamboo, the Jackie, the Stirrup, and the Gucci 1973, and small leather goods.

The Artisan Corner display includes custom work tables, a sewing machine, a leather stand, and metal tools, as well as additional background materials which show the products’ evolution from mood board to sketches.  Each hand-crafted product was personalized with hand-embossed monogramming. In addition, each handbag featured a special inside plaque embossed with the location and date.

The evening presented the rich and captivating heritage of the House of Gucci with Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor dressed in Gucci S/S 12. Other notable guests like Ashok & Rina Wadhwa, Nachiket Barve, Devika & Suresh Bhojwani, Roohi & Chetan Jaikishen, Monica Dogra, Poorna Jagannathan, Radhika Ruia, A D Singh, Ramona Narang, Laila Lamba, Gayatri & Vikas Oberoi, Narendra Kumar, Bikram & Schauna Saluja, Namrata Baruah Shroff, Rita Dhody, Lata & Vispi Patel, Samantha & Nikki Nayar, Shobhaa & Dilip De, Pratima & Gaurav Bhatia, Sunita & Gaurav Ghai, Nikhil Meswani and Zoa Morani were seen admiring the crafts persons at work while they mingled over canapés and cocktails.
