With the nip in the air growing cruel, and every other one getting married, it’s time to outshine the winter moon. Under one such moony night, Designer Manish Malhotra presented his latest festive collection, sending a parade of divas on the royal sands of Jaipur.

Held at the Jaipur Mariott, the bridal affair by Manish for Jaipur’s new couture destination ‘Miraangi’ took the city by storm. A beautiful amalgamation of jewel tones with bright colors, the collection came as an indicator of contemporary bridal fashion.  Predominantly, crafted in rich fabrics like silk, brocades and velvets, the range was a signature Manish Malhotra’s play of volume and colors.

With glaring zardosi embellishment, chikankari and Kashmiri embroidery craft, there was an array of asymmetrical anarkalis, voluminous lehangas, embellished saris and embroidered bandhgalas on offer. On the other hand, men’s collection revolved around bundhgalas with embroidered sleeves, jodhpurs, shawls and sherwanis in jewel tones.

With wedding bells echoing around, it’s a season of couture indulgence and our designers are leaving no stone unturned to bring the best out of their kitty. Of late, it’s Jaya Rathore who showcased her Couture Collection at Ogaan, New Delhi.

The collection came up as the celebration of the beauty of a bygone era, keeping up with the spirit of the space. The preview of Jaya Rathore Couture Collection reflected her experimentation with textile revival, and brought the Indian craft forms to fore. The heritage weaves and unique embroideries made the collection stand out.

The contemporary shapes marrying with revived techniques and old folk motifs appeared perfect for modern tsarinas seeking something distinct this winters.

After the grand launch of Audi Delhi Terminal this year, Mr. Raghav Chandra, MD, Audi Delhi (Regent Garage Pvt Ltd) was delighted to present designer’s journey from ‘Past to Present’, as Vijay showcased his collection from Retrospective to Prospective along with recently launched Audi models.

VIJAY ARORA, the label, is known for making clothes, that are timeless. The designers behind the label, Vijay & Shobhna Arora have mastered the craft of ‘ek taar resham’ or single thread intricate hand embroideries, which are as painstaking as they are beautiful. So as not to take away from this beautiful tapestry, the silhouettes are kept clean and uncluttered.  Eighteen years of design is being encapsulated in a show that presented archival pieces, recreated or borrowed from clients, tracing the designers’ journey and evolution from then to now.

One of their most significant contributions to Indian fashion has been the woven CHOGHA. After tremendous research and development, time and effort, the looms, which had got lost in the matrix of time, was set up in Benaras with the help of expert craftsmen. New pattern making techniques were used to execute placement weaving. Resurrecting the dead looms and recreating the apparel has been a very satisfying and fulfilling creative expression for the designers.

Nehruvian vests, bandhgalas and shervanis propagate a neo-retro look teamed with breeches and sandblasted denim jodhpurs for the understated yet fashionable man. Beautifully sculpted Silk Jackets gently contour the feminine form, skimming the thighs, calves or ankles paired with churidars or skirts. The quintessential ‘Vijay Arora’ cocktail saree is and will always remain the ‘piece de resistance’.

One after the other, advertisements by all the ace labels are getting criticized by the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) as they believe that the adverts bestowed violated the society norms. The list includes Marks and Spencer, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs whose ads are being circumscribed by the ASA.

Marks and Spencer came in the spotlight of ASA for its lingerie ad which focused a female in black hued lingerie sporting a  similar color stocking with her legs spread apart kneeling on a bed and back arched posing her left hand on her thigh and the right hand behind her head. The ad was barred because the agency thinks it is explicitly sexual and unfavorable for a child’s mind. Marks and Spencer has received a legal notice to prohibit the advert from any further display. The ad was created to endorse the labels signature collection of lingerie.

While Calvin Klein’s ad on the other hand centering model Lara Stone featuring its exclusive Jeans X has been restricted in Australia. More than fifty complaints have been registered against this ad by CK. According to the Aussies the advert publicizes ferocity, group sex and rape as the print ad portrayed the model resting her head on the lap of a man while being encircled by three topless men where another is trying to pounce over her. The Advertising Standards Bureau of Australia on the basis of these demonstrations has put delimitation on the ad.

The similar prohibition has been allocated to the Oh Lola perfume by Marc Jacobs posing Dakota Fanning where the 17 year model wearing an arresting short dress was holding the exclusive perfume between her legs. The ad has been stated to be vulgar and sexually preemptive which might affect the children. It is also been defined  by the United Kingdom’s regulatory board (ASA) that the 17 year model in the ad who seemed below the age group of 16 might be viewed as a promotion of a child’s sexual traits . Four complaints were lodged against Oh Lola ad.

The ASA as a result of such kind of portrayal has set up new guidances for the agencies and the advertisers to bring constriction in the public display of any kind of ad.
