The one-off India Resort Fashion Week 2011, exhibiting some great designs along the backdrop of flirting sun and serene Indian Ocean came to a fashionable halt of late, giving Indian resort wear a good name.

The inchoate Indian resort industry had crowning glory when names like Manish Malhotra and Shantanu & Nikhil brought their unique twist to resort wear, on the last day of the fashion week, that too on the beautiful sand of Goa.

The last 2 days with a lineup of some of the biggest names of Indian fashion vied for attention with their resort interpretations that varied from sari to tank suit. The day 3 had designer Asmita Marwah beautifully merging gypsy look with a hint of Middle Eastern elegance of the Nizams of Hyderabad. The checked sari wrapped over bikini, sequined bras and flared pants left no stone unturned to fill the Goan breeze with glittering glamour.

Designer Babita Malkhani followed with her collection titled, ‘Beach Bonita’, having memories of Ibiza, Spain. With abundant exuberance, the range was a mix of palazzo pants and kaftans with glittering sequins, crochet patchwork and appliques in hues of blue and ivory. On the other hand, Shivan & Narresh put forth a collection that captivated and celebrated the scintillating life beneath the elusive and esoteric dusk surrounding the woodland. The duo showcased knotted bikini, maillot, bikinis and one shoulder dresses in woody hues.

Pria Kataria Puri came next to with her Persian Punk with a lot of Persian prints giving a very glamorous and nomadic feel to the collection. The free flowing kaftans and robes were accessorized with gold bling bands. The final day saw Designer shantanu & Nikhil presenting their Pink Pop, a collection with a mix of 60s kitsch and modern day minimalism. Sundresses, halters and bikinis in bright contrasting tones had ornate lace and cutwork bringing the glamour.

The fashion week concluded on signature Manish Malhotra notes coming up with his interesting twist on resort wear. The collection featured sheer kurtas with bikini tops, jackets, flaring dresses and sequined pants – a sort of a blend of bridal and resort.

Malini Ramani has always walked down the trendy experimental way. Whether it’s her reinterpretation of gypsy fashion or it’s her love for food. Of late designer has partnered with Bata India, to create a line that helps her creations to reach out to the masses.

The camaraderie between one of the India’s leading fashion designers and a footwear label with wide consumer base aims to bring Malini’s unique stylistic sensibility and signature to a line of shoes being made for masses.

For her very first collaboration with Bata, Malini has created a collection inspired by the ever-popular Indian ‘kolahpuri’ sandal.  With a variety of colours and styles, the collection ranges from glamorous mirror work embroidery with comfortable cork heels to juicy pink and purple to classic nude leather with gold trimming. Besides, all the shoes have beautifully shaped wedge heels, with the emphasis being ‘style with comfort’ – which is Malini’s design mantra.

India’s first ever, India Resort Fashion Week, being held in Goa kicked off this Wednesday with a bunch of designers showcasing some best of the Indian resort/swim wear designs.

The four-day fashion extravaganza opened on the flamboyance of James Ferreira, bringing to fore his interesting take on resort wear. His array of brightly hued dresses with his signature drapes, asymmetrical tops and transparent skirts were perfect crafted in sync with ‘by water mood’. Similar was his menswear where designer came up with ‘Skurta’ – the shirt kurta for men with asymmetrical hemlines and transparent-opaque play.

Following the James Ferreira carnival was designer Aarti Vijay Gupta’s fairy tale in pristine whites featuring asymmetrical tops paired with transparent and sequined skirts. Silver metallic belts and leggings with bustiers were few of the interesting elements of the collection.

The Day 2 of India Resort Fashion Week began on wild Felix Bendish notes. His collection was comprised of outlandish headgears, brooches, bracelets, bags and necklaces in the hues of pink, red, green, beige and gold. Felix’s nude men were followed by a gang of Snow Whites strutting breezily in Kaftan styled long garments, twisted leotards and flared trousers exuding relaxed femininity.

Further, Divya Mohta’s Birds of Paradise flying in printed kaftans and dresses with bandannas came out as a perfect choice for modern women set to hit the shores. What ensued was one colorful flowery affaire by designer Anupama Dayal where she lined up sari along with long dresses using fabrics like silk, chanderi and chiffons.

A new designer on the block, Gogee Vasant came next with a young fresh and chic collection of maxi dresses, kaftans, jumpsuits, sheer shirts and pants whereas the day ended with a spectacular show by Narendra Kumar, showcasing his exquisite ‘Osonai’ collection.  The collection was made of fabric which was specifically dyed by flowers and herbs collected from temples. Jumpers, trousers, shirts and kaftans and short dresses turned out to be perfect as resort wear.

It was a peep into understated 30s which Burberry Prorsum’s, Pre Fall 2012 was demonstrative of. The well-tailored, body hugging collection was all comprised of cozy fall colors and materials subtle flares and color pop ups.

Revolving around label’s all-time hits like trench coats, pencil skirts, military coats, drop waist dresses and double breasted coats, the silhouettes primarily remained long accentuating hourglass trend. The details like bows, pleating and peplums rendered that edge to the collection.

Predominantly, done in wool, cashmere, tweed, suede, fur and corduroy, the collection also had interesting menswear on offer. Double breasted coats to button-less ones, the range is well tailored and lean. With animal motifs and geometrical prints on t shirts, teamed up with pleated tapered trousers, the whole look is very old school kind of with an urban twist.
