The tall, handsome and thus obviously captivating Nayan Pahwa has a voice you would love to record, definitely lend your ear to it again and thus dazed on the ensuing erotica. A model by dotage and flight attendant by choice, Nayan has mastered the art of attaining balance as he juggles between the two immaculately.

Modeling happened to this rock-carved-out lad from Delhi when a photographer friend of him sent his pictures for Grasim Mr. India, 2006 and bingo, a breath-taking model was born. So we got him opining his views on fashion, life and modeling.

Tell us something about early life and academics?
I was born and brought up in Delhi and studied in Jaspal Kaur Public School, Shalimar Bagh . I went to Venkateshwar College in Delhi itself. My college days proved to be most consequential in my life and infused a sort of resolution and a sense of self assurance in me.

So how modeling happened to you?
Actually, there was a photographer friend of mine who suggested me the modeling. So I got my portfolio done and it was he who sent my photographs, without me knowing about it, for the auditions of Mr. India in 2006. There I finally ended up among the top 5 and thus my modeling career took an outset.

What was your parents’ reaction on you choosing modeling as a career?
To be honest, my parents were very open and they had no problem with it. In fact, they are my motivational and inspirational force.

What was your first modeling assignment?
Again I owe my first assignment to my same photographer friend, philosopher and guide, who sent my photographs for advertisement of Pace Casuals.

What’s your take on this industry?
Well, this industry requires a lot of struggle and time to get noticed. Here you disappear with in a day if you haven’t got the right attitude and savoir faire of hitting it off with the people. Moreover in India models are not paid what they deserve or what their counterparts are endowed with internationally.

What is fashion for you?
Fashion is something which enhances your individuality. It should be comfortable, yet chic.

What are the five essentials that must be followed by upcoming models?

  • Perfect attitude
  • Confidence
  • Patience
  • Perseverance
  • Ability to make good relationships( professional and personal)

When not modeling what are you most likely to be doing?
I do modeling as a part time as I love the glitz and glamour dovetailed with it. Besides I work for an airline as a flight attendant. So my life is all about juggling between modeling and my work as a flight attendant.

What do you think of bollywood as a career option?
Awesome….. but only if struck by good offers and right foothold.

Craft-paper couture – an inspired idea cut like a pattern and whipped up into a frisky little “funny face” frock. Then, strip it back to its essence for Summer 2010 with a Pret-a- Papier colour collection.

It was a Project Runway challenge of sorts, with paper as the source, the instigator of ideas, the beginning of something simply, basically beautiful. Lipstick, Lipglass, Eye Shadow, Paint Pot, Chromagraphic Pencil, Studio Fix Lash, Impeccable Brow Pencil, Sheertone and Mineralize Blushes, and Nail Lacquer in a seamless spectrum of parchment-to-vellum beiges, with an occasional, clever colour spill.

Tips by Vimi Joshi, M•A•C senior artist – Middle east & India for lips that are luscious and creamy, apply dressmaker lipstick topped with fold and tuck Lipglass -to create a wide eyed look, apply the mac chromographic pencil into the eyes. This long wearing formula that is water resistant will keep your eyes looking fresher for longer.

This product range has Impeccable Brow Pencil, Studio Fix Lash, Mineralize Blush, Archetype Sheer Light Gold (Lustre) lipstick, C-Thru Peachy-Beige with Shimmer lip glass, Tissueweight Frosted Pale Peach (Frost) eye shadow, Brown Bag Mid-Tone Warm-Dirty Beige (Cream) nail lacquer and many more.

They are known to break the rules. And instead create ones that set the bar for the Industry. Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, return to rule the ramp after a four year hiatus, with "ALMOST 24”, which will form the finale of Pearls Delhi Couture Week on the night of Sunday, 25th July, 2010. The duo will complete 25 years in the business in 2011, and the title is an ode to this landmark.

"This is 21st Century India in all her myriad glory” says the designer duo, whilst talking about the inspiration behind the collection. “Its timeless elegance meets here and now, in your face, rock chick glamour. There’s all the tehzeeb of the past tinged with a tongue in cheek nonchalance. Its classical meets contemporary. The way today’s Diva deserves to dress.”

The collection would comprise of Abaan- multi coloured floral thread embroidery mounted on a trellis of geometrical bling. Sonaar- homage to ‘Sonar Kella’, the book and film by Satyajit Ray, which weaves the surreal tale of a palace of fantasy constructed entirely from gold. Dramatic, it features sequins arranged like liquid metal in hues of gold, copper and bronze Rabadi-capturing the spirit and mystery of the nomadic Rabadi Tribe of Kutch, this is a reinvention of their classic range. It is the crafting of a rich, seamless patchwork of vibrantly coloured resham embroideries.  And Shabb- The monotone of Gothic black forms the backdrop for heady multi-hued luxe.

ALMOST 24 is Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s celebration of their own history melded with a vision for tomorrow. It’s where the lines between vintage and avant-garde, and the divisions between East and West blur to create a new blueprint for couture.
