International Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD – Bandra/Khar) is one of the premiere institutes dedicated to the promotion of professional education in the field of fashion celebrating their students’ collection at a star studded fashion show.

The institute runs efficiently under the supervision of Mr. Vivek Dhawan and Mrs. Urmila Dhawan and to their credit is a fact that the institute in a short span of 6 years stands out as one of the best and most renowned institutes in the city.

The theme for the show drew its inspirational light from our own Incredible India. As we say the varied cultures of India lets out a thousand thoughts on this nation that we are very proud of. This is a land of diversity wherein lies unity. Where we see love we see war, where there is peace there is solidity, where there are desserts there are also rivers, we see shades of urban and rural life, various customs and traditions, cultures and their celebrations. This makes our land an amalgamation of all the above factors which blends out into various states, each with its unique culture, tradition and art.

The INIFD students blended all these timeless factors of our nation and brought out the essence of “Incredible India” through their various collections.

Whether it is for work or play, the world of men’s clothing is often overlooked. He spends hours shopping, unlike a time when the word shopping made him fret. He is more aware of himself and makes every attempt to make an impact, no matter from which strata of society he hails from.

Over the past decades, the fashion world has started to wake up and realize that men don’t just want bland grey suits and blue polo shirts and trying to cash in this is AZA. Founded in 2004 as a premium retailer to merchandise the best of Indian couture, AZA, the brainchild of Atul and Dr. Alka Nishar is the official co-sponsor at the Lakme Fashion Week since the last few years. In the sojourn of 6 years, AZA has redefined fashion for the women and has now pledged itself to the men in Delhi after already having launched AZA Men Store in Mumbai in November 2007. The launch party had the much needed glam quotient with Bollywood actors Jackky Bhagnani, Rahul Dev and menswear designer Rocky S donning some masterpieces from the Aza men’s collection.

Each Aza store focuses on luxury and offers a wide range of couture, diffusion and prêt collections along with an emphasis on “Occasion-Wear”, a must in a country that is always in a jolly festive mood!! The swanky, world-class AZA Men store situated in the Crescent at the Qutab would vitrine the works of fashion honchos Rohit Bal, J. J. The House’s storied past inspires the creative philosophy behind the new Gucci 1973 line of bags, where classic design meets ultra modern spirit in a perfect balance between innovative styling and timeless allure.

Superb quality, fine craftsmanship and distinctive design are the eternal values which for 90 years have defined the impeccable, exclusive and enduring essence of every Gucci accessory. The 1973 GG logo marks the new micro and macro bags in lusciously rich inflections of classic or exotic leathers: chamois suede, alligator and ostrich. Also bimaterial mode as in the Diamante prints versions with alligator or black cellarius edging.

The original model that Frida Giannini found in the company archives is a priceless patrimony and inexhaustible source of inspiration, dates to 1973. It’s an elegant shoulder bag with front flap sporting the GG monogram in polished brass with antique finish – now exceptional symbol and signature detail of the Gucci 1973 line.

Shoulder bags with standard or chain strap present boxy and rectangular shapes fine for day and night. They include envelope clutches in soft, versatile lines. Inspired by basic travel totes, the much larger models have extraordinary features clearly serving to make pure practicality the primary element of elegance. Double handles, front pockets, top zip closures and inside compartments highlight and enhance the multi-use character of the bags, awarding even the classic totes a supremely contemporary attitude where the sense of luxury is there both in the whole and in the smallest of details.

The Lap Garden Bar carries on the festivities of their Spanish summer bar festival with the introduction of the installations by Nitya Bajaj & 1986 by designers – Srishti & Deeksha at “Las Ramblas” the garden’s ode to the summer months in the capital.

Nitya Bajaj’s Installation follows three distinct stories being, Goth-Oxide: a story with importance to ego and super ego…Teamed with a new interpretation of gun metal jewellery. The second being, Acid Attack: the neon story with fluorescent colors and a blast of effervescence… Lastly, Blinged: the power of shine, using nude colors and highlighting them with crystal elements.

Of the many Ramblas, “1986’s” installation focuses on two main streets; Rambla de Sant Josep and Rambla de Caputxins. Rambla de Sant losep is also known as the Rambla de les Flors since one can find the famous florist’s stalls here, filling the whole area with the colours and scents of the flowers. Using vibrant colours and flowers on the mannequins, the designers have tried to re-create the vibrancy of this street. The uniqueness of Rambla de Caputxins or del Centre lies in its youthful street-side bars such as La Opera or Los Italianos where people go to look and be looked at. With its shops on all sides, this is perhaps the Best Rambla to watch well-dressed people going in and out of El Liceu. The mannequins themselves represent the stylish people walking down this street, while the hanger railings on either side represent the boutique culture which is very popular on this street.

In short this installation through its vibrant colours, frill dresses, floral display and boutique-ish appeal tries to re-create the atmosphere of Las Ramblas.

Satya Paul joined hands for the first time with American Express to showcase its exquisite “The Art of Tarot” Collection. This show also commemorated the year of the 25th Anniversary of Satya Paul.

The beautiful evolution of fashion, the unison of mystique with inspiration- this charismatic collection was unveiled at The Oberoi, New Delhi with the stunning Bollywood star Jacqueline Fernandez as the show stopper for the evening.

Satya Paul’s ‘The Art of Tarot’ collection designed by multimedia artist Puneet Nanda, gives you an opportunity to wrap yourself in a world of mysticism and magic. He brings forth the tarot history by designing beautiful and intriguing pieces of art. For him “Tarot is a vast and timeless subject which deals with the whole of life. In keeping with the spirit to do things deeply and passionately we have not only created the collection but a complete deck of cards for lovers of tarot, for times to come”.

Taking inspiration from the same, the collection is a mix of Indian and indo-western garments, keeping in mind the sensibility of today’s woman!. Prints rule the collection, with each outfit reflecting the cards in the most imaginative and beautiful fashion.  The fabrics for the collection have been woven to bring out the elegance and shine effervescently to hint towards the multi-layered print and embroidered effects that have been created. The colors of the collection are taken from the cards themselves and run the gamut from soft muted tones to bright vivid ones. There are metallic and matt effects created by modern techniques of fabric treatments.

The evening began with a warm welcome, over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by the showing of the much awaited collection. Riveting theatrical music complimented the charming soiree, an exciting sequence of lights lit up this captivating show. The evening left no stone unturned in encapsulating the grandeur, elegance and magnificence that this collection promised to be.

Born in Monrovia, Africa and having been brought up partially in Africa, U.K. and India, Kirat Bhattal is a vagabond at heart. In fact a vagabond having a lucid outlook towards the life characterized by her love affair with painting, art and avid reading . She debuted with an awed visage when her photographer friend sent her pictures for the auditions of Safi. And soon she hit it off with camera and lights.

Now, the proud magic-smith of many cult brands like Lakme and Fair& Lovely this lass ( with dribbling innocence) is a household face down south having done lead roles in hits like Geleya.
So we got this Princess of South ( and a hope of north) spilling the beans out of her satchel.

Early life and academics……
I was born in Monrovia, Liberia but we had to leave the country because of the civil war and its aftermath and for a short span, we moved to London. Thereafter I went to boarding school viz; The Lawrence School, Kasauli. These were wonderful years and I made friends for life. As my parents  had moved back  to Ghana in West Africa, I would travel back and forth alone. This made me quite confident and travel-savvy. While on these holidays, I experienced Africa all over again. To be honest, I still miss those days and Africa still feels like a second home. A few years ago, after school, I shifted to Delhi and here I am !

Parent’s viewpoint over your decision of modeling as a career….
My parents were cool with it and supported me in every possible manner.

The way you bumped into your modeling assignment…..
I had never really planned to get into the modeling. People would tell I should definitely give modeling a shot but it actually happened along the way when a photographer friend of mine, Rony sent my photographs for the auditions of Safi. I was pleasantly surprised to be a winner at the contest for Safi Face of the year and ended up doing a print advertisement and TV commercial for Safi.

Your aspiration as a kid…..
I was that usual desultory kid who keeps changing her mind everyday. Seeing a movie ,based on U.N.O, I wanted to work in U.N and the very next day while reading a novel I would romanticize about being a business honcho. So my aspirations were nothing less than ephemeral joys of childhood.

The shoots that you have adorned with your graceful presence….
See…I haven’t really done ramp modeling but I have worked primarily with electronic media and the entertainment world. I have been lucky enough to work with many big brands for print ads. I have also done commercials for Safi, Fair and Lovely, Lakme , Motorola, Siyaram, etc and a documentary film for UNESCO. It is my forte and I enjoy doing it. Besides, I have done few movies down south like Geleya, Vataram, Santosh Subramaniam and Durai..

Your take on bollywood as a career option….
As I have good experience and exposure working in movies in South India, moving to Bollywood would be a natural progression. I am open to it when I feel I have captured all the nuances required to do justice to a film role. I have gotten a few opportunities earlier but I felt I should wait.

You employ your leisure time by……
I have a love affair with painting and reading which I love to spend my time with whenever possible. And moreover I have this big addiction for TV shows like ‘How I Met Your Mother’, Heros and Dexter.

Idea of an ideal date……
Ahhh……I think your comfort level with the person rules my priorities. And its all about good chemistry and conversation.. Whether it’s a sea beach, desert night or trekking ….settings do not matter, but it is the person who matters most.

Your greatest achievement…..
Achievement is not a one day wonder but it is a day to day evolution. And as far as my greatest achievement is concerned I think signing with Lakme brings a sort of sense of accomplishment in me.

Your dream destination….
South America…..I just want to take 6 months off from my work and explore every nook and cranny of this marvelous land.

This past weekend I was flipping through the Financial Times’ How To Spend It when I spied Australian model Christina Carey in the fashion editorial “Mutinous Bounty”.

I’ve caught glimpses of her backstage and on the runway in New York and San Francisco – each time noticing her striking natural beauty and versatility – able to look modern, androgynous, ultra-feminine, or from another era altogether.
