Nimirta Lalwani
Nimirta born and brought up in Hong Kong made Bangalore her home only after her marriage. Her designs are sophisticated and chic, the focus is on cut, and embellishment is minimal but striking. Her clothes will not fit the body but it is cut in such a way that it accentuates the personality and just falls over you.
Her fascination towards clothes compelled her to start her own label ‘Nimirta Lalwani’. The collection comprises of stunning jewel toned dresses perfect for an elegant cocktail, glamorous red carpet event or a fun girls’ night out. Every piece is designed to embody a softly feminine symmetry and a sense of timelessness. Rich fabrics like satins and chiffons are used with minimal but striking adornment that is synonymous with the foundation of the label. She also designs saris that are not traditional but fusion of Indo-Western.
She has been showcased her collections at Wills India Fashion Week and has done various shows in Hong Kong. Her designs are currently retailing from multi-designers store in India like Zoya, Fuel, Studio Saks, Aza, Chamomile and Ogaan. Joy Mitra
“The Indian woman of today can carry a Banarasi sari with as much ease as she can carry a Gucci or a Puma.” So says Joy Mitra, the young fashion designer from National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata in 2000. He took up teaching at NIFT, Delhi in 2005 and also freelanced for designers like Anjana Bhargav. However, his intense passion and love for designing lured him into designing for films and he started off as costume designer for Rituparno Ghosh’s movies. He has the distinction of mixing and matching different fabrics and colours to create a classy Indian look. Joy does a lot of texturing to blend different fabrics to create an impression of an altogether new fabric. Intellectual pick of colours with diverse range of fabrics embedded are presented in true ethnic spirit in all of his creations. He caters to an exclusive clientele from his studio at Shahpur Jat in New Delhi.
Joy has successfully used the conventional silhouettes to create a look that has a modern appeal. His imagination beautifully puts together with each colour and texture of paneled dresses in Anarkali style, paneled ankle length skirts, kali dresses and kurtas with empire lines attached to backless bodices. Each style is ornated with delicate Indian embroideries placed on the body and sleeves. Intricately embroidered lehengas in pure brocades teamed with banjara cholies are what he mostly prefers as show stoppers.
