Dries Van Noten’s RTW Spring 2014 collection was a spectacular fusion of reality with showmanship. It was blend of disparate elements brought into clear, fabulous focus.

The collection was a stunning display of dark tulip damasks, jet black ruffles, Byzantine gold, Ottoman tassels, and embroideries. The designer teased the face-off between the peasant authenticity of raw cotton and the outrageous flounce of gold lamé ruffles by sticking them in the same outfit. A tiny star print countered the scale of giant floral and a barbed-wire print, their prettiness. Van Noten’s use of honest, hardy fabrics like poplin, calico and natural linen resulted into bold combination of rich and poor. The astonishing looks were the roomy jackets and pants with a hint of the Eighties and a gold leather waistcoat gleamed under a rough calico coat.

Working on the motto that less is better, she prefers not to repeat designs, instead focuses on making each piece a stellar creation with intricate detailing. Educated in the United Kingdom at Central Saint Martins and at Parsons School Of Design in New York, she started her affair with design at 12 and has never stopped since. Sunaina Puri arrived in Mumbai in 2006 and opened her Colaba studio with her artisans to create her visions.

With a hope to take the fashion world by storm, she launched her label ‘Armaan’ in 2009 which revolves around mixing east and west with style and ease. Her clothes are easy to slip into and seem to always make a statement of their own. She represents flamboyancy and likes to develop extraordinary intricacy in each of her creations. The label let her clients choose from range of simple lace shirts to glamorous and elegant dresses as well as mens shirts and fabulous sherwanis.

Sunaina has showcased her collections at Lakme Fashion Week and her designs have been adorned by famous Bollywood celebrities like Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Parineeti Chopra, Kajal Aggarwal, Malaika Arora Khan and Karishma Kapoor to name a few.

Her designs are currently retailing from her flagship store in Mumbai, Soiree in Dubai, Aza, Oak tree, Ananya, Ensemble and Kimaya in Mumbai.

Rochas Spring 2014 collection “The Glass Menagerie,” was the unconventional, irreverent acme of Macro Zanini’s nearly five-year tenure at the label and a summation of what he loves.

The models sashayed down the ramp in long dresses with a shirt collar and silvery cord; Organza blouses decorated with thermo-sealed crystals and bulging dresses and separates. Other astonishing looks were Zanini’s signature retro lady silhouettes, hand-painted velvet roses on organza gowns and fancy toppers combined with slippers trimmed in a fan of ostrich feathers. The color palate included a vivid range from blush to citron green. The most spellbinding material was a chartreuse technical fiber, more tinsel-like than velvet used for a simple coat.

A passion for science fiction drove Marcel Marongiu’s spring collection for Guy Laroche at Paris fashion week. He tested thick, techy materials on hoodies and skirts with flared hemlines, and fiber-optic fringe.

Shapes such as trenches, bombers and bubble dresses were theoretically wearable, the experimental fabrics and clunky volumes fizzled while white shirts with gold buttons and black pants were considered to be best.

Design encompasses everything around us. Fashion, Space, Photography & Graphics are just a few fields that experiment with the elements of design to create and express. Smoke House Deli associated with Peter D’Ascoli for the third take on Deconstruct.

The designer first launched his label in New York, then Paris and New Delhi in 2006. His textiles speak of an eclectic mix of different cultures that further enhance spaces, interiors and architecture. The DNA of his brand celebrates the decorative arts of various cultures tastefully.

The menu took inspiration from his signature style of interpreting artistic creations through the various cultures visually and in terms of flavour, translating the same into a very special menu of cocktails & appetizers mixed with the multicultural spirit of the brand.

Experiencing the amalgamation of food and design were Simone Singh, Fahad Samar, Gautam Sinha, Shivan&Narresh, Radhika Jha, Ruchika Sachdev, Jaideep&Sujata Assomull Sippy, Steve Stepanian – Bain Consulting, Christine Margotin – French Sculpture, Zalerie Buscryet – Fashion Executive – Lecoanet Hemant were few who came by to enjoy the evening.
