It is official: Liza Golden is the new face of Lakme. The 5’9.5” beauty has signed an exclusive contract with the beauty giant and the campaign will be out shortly.

The doe eyed beauty arrived on Indian shores some months back and has taken the Indian Modeling scene by storm. Striking good looks, a stunning figure and a CV which boasts of assignments for Kingfisher, Vogue and Cosmopolitan amongst others, Liza is sure to go a long long way. Here Fashionfad indulges in an exclusive chat with the stunner.

So, tell us Liza…How did you get chosen as the new face of Lakme? What was the selection procedure etc?
Like any job there is a casting for it, but for Lakme I walked in the door and there were about like 12 women and I was shocked because I’ve never met so many people for a casting before…I sat down, they flipped through my book, looked at me side to side, up and down, eyes opened, eyes closed, literally, then I proceeded to tell them a bit about my interests, and we got into reading. I told them how much I love vampire books/vampires in general…not sure if that had any effect on their decision (giggles)

What was your reaction when you were chosen?
I felt pretty great because I really didn’t expect it at all; it was a surprise to me. A nice one at that!

You belong to USA, how did you decide to come to Indian shores for modeling?
My agents Mark and Gunita (Of Anima Creative Management) were shooting with me for an Indian magazine while I was working in Australia for a few months, and they scouted me and told me that I should give India a try, and I took their advice :)

How do you feel about India – its culture, the people etc?
At first it’s a huge shock but then when a few months go by and you are nearing the end of your time in India suddenly you don’t want to leave, and you realize you’ve grown to love the chaos and mayhem…then I extend my ticket a few more months (giggles) :)

Tell us something about your early life. Your family, education, place you were brought up etc.
I have quite a small family in New Jersey that I can count on one hand. I finished all my schooling well to high school, and then I was studying to become a nurse at a college in New Jersey but then I was scouted to be a model and started traveling and working so much and I could not keep up with school. And since I pay for my schooling I decided that I would like to hold back on it for another few years and travel the world and focus on modeling since I can only give my all in one thing at a time.

Share a special childhood memory with us…
My favorite childhood memories had to be all my amphibian searching; I was a tomboy as a kid, always waking up at the crack of dawn with my younger boy cousin and searching for salamanders under rocks, and then keeping  them in our bug/creature containers… We were big about catching frogs too. As a matter of fact, to this day I love to catch them :) I was always down and dirty as a kid. I miss those days…

Which makeup and beauty product brands do you use yourself?
I’m a big mascara girl myself, and I love a nice lip color and Lakme has the nicest of shades, their eye shadows are superb and they work awesomely well for my going out nights :)

What has been your favourite modeling moment?
My favorite moment? Well it’d have to be moments because for me modeling is all about traveling that’s why I love it. I get to travel the world and see everything and learn about so many different cultures and lifestyles and that’s always been what I’ve wanted!

What do you love about life as a model?
Well, we do tend to get things for free. Clothes, shoes, makeup…that’s a great little perk.

What are your future plans and interests?
I guess a lot of things. I’m so young and I have a lot of countries to travel to, my next big step would be Europe, I’ve never REALLY gone (was there only for 2 weeks). I’m also quite the chef at home and would love to take up culinary school down the road, I also love to write and writing a memoir has always been a thought…lets see how much of that I get done!! (giggles) Europe first :)

One thing you would like to change in your life?
That while I’m traveling I can take my doggy Rocky with me. I miss him so dearly but I don’t think he’d do too well with the street dogs here, and there are way too many distractions… (laughs)

What about your relationship status?
I’m taken… (winks)

And who is the lucky man?
Lucky man? He might beg to differ with the lucky part, but he’ll remain unknown for now (giggles).

On average, jeans are washed 3-10 times–using 42 liters of water for each pair–in their finishing process; that’s before they even reach the hands of the consumer. At Levi’s Workshop in New York City last night, Levi’s announced the latest in their sustainability initiatives: the "Water<Less" jeans collection, which reduces water consumption on an average of 28% per pair of jeans and up to 96% for some styles.

It all started with a team of designers who went to one of the Levi’s laundries and told the folks there that they wanted to do the most incredible denim finishing  ever done – but they didn’t want to use water. If you’re into blue jeans like I am, you know that’s a tall order. Anyone can create a jean using less water. But the challenge is using innovative techniques to create the finishes customers want, without using a lot of water.

Thus the Levi’s brand is announcing its new Water<Less jeans, which are made using less water, significantly less. The first collection of Water<Less products is available from this  January of 2011 and will include over a dozen classic Levi’s jeans, including the Levi’s 501 jeans and the popular 511 and 514 jeans, as well as the Levi’s® trucker jacket.

The Levi’s spring 2011 product lines will contain more than 1.5 million pairs of jeans with the Water<Less method, saving approximately 16 million litres of water.   The line will also include jeans made with brand’s traditional rigid finish which, by its nature, utilizes virtually no water in its production.

The Levi’s brand will continue to introduce these finishing techniques to even more supplier factories around the world with the goal of increasing the numbers significantly in Fall 2011.

Water<Less is just one way the Levi’s brand is working to reduce the environmental impact of its products. Recent Levi Strauss & Co. research shows that during the lifecycle of a pair of Levi’s 501 jeans, the largest water impact comes from the cotton growing process and through the laundry habits of consumers after they leave the stores. As a company, Levi Strauss & Co. is making strides in these key areas – from supporting more sustainable ways to grow cotton to monitoring how suppliers use water in the manufacturing process.

The company also launched the “Care Tag for Our Planet” campaign, changing the product care tags in Levi’s jeans to include instructions about ways consumers can reduce the environmental impact of their clothes by washing less, washing in cold water, line drying and donating to Goodwill™ when no longer needed.

Coinciding with the start of its 90th anniversary year, Gucci will this month release the third image in its “Forever Now” worldwide advertising campaign, conceived by Creative Director Frida Giannini.

Originally launched in February 2010, the campaign celebrates the traditions and values that have helped to make the Gucci name synonymous for quality, Italian craftsmanship and fashion authority.

The campaign once again features an original black and white photograph of Gucci artisans in its historic Via delle Caldaie building in Florence, taken by Foto Locchi in 1953. While the two previous campaign images have shown male artisans at work, the new creative depicts the contribution of female artisans. The single and double page spreads will appear in newspapers and lifestyle and business magazines for the first six months of the 90th anniversary year complementing the seasonal fashion campaign.

The continuity of traditions has always intrigued Urvashi Kaur. She is hence constantly amazed by the magic of how India’s diversity and rich heritage have helped create fine aesthetics and cultural expressions. And the same magic is aptly manifested in Urvashi’s creations. Being a true Indian at heart, Urvashi soaks in the Indian spirit every minute of her life. No wonder her pieces retain and exude an Indian fervor in them. India lives in the old and in the new. And by intelligently combining classic elements with modern mores, Urvashi’s Republic Day creations are a tribute to India.

She goes beyond the call of fashion by incorporating Indian fabrics like natural woven Silk, khadi, fine voile and Cotton, matka Silk, hand woven chanderi , and linen, in hues of the tri color made from natural dyes that ensure eco-friendliness of these fabrics. Scripting your sense of love towards your country with style and confidence is Designer Urvashi Kaur’s special collection in the tri color.

The collection is available at Urvashi Kaur design studio at 6, Sultanpur Estate, New Delhi.
