The Mumbai International Boat Show this year comes a long way in luxury and lifestyle as the event hosted fashion shows from renowned designers and luxury brands at BKC Mumbai.  It was a yet another hi-end lifestyle event attended by the who’s who of the city, partnered with Gitanjali Lifestyle Ltd (GLL).

The glittering Fashion show displayed exquisite apparel from the Lolita, Maya Weddings & Occasions stores, jewellery from Giantti. Designer garments from Amber & Shirrin and Gunjan & Rahul, both of whom display at the Maya store, were featured in the sequences.

Lolita is an international apparel brand offering casual wear and accessories for women, trendy and fashionable garments perfectly suitable for the cosmopolitan woman.

Maya Weddings & Occasions is a hi-end fashion store showcasing multiple designer labels and more, all under one roof. Besides occasion wear and stylised accessories, it also hosts the ME Design studio for customised jewellery, making it a virtual one-stop shop for wedding shopping.

Gunjan & Rahul presented their Spring 2010 collection with free flowing silhouettes that take the body shape and exquisite variations of cord work. Amber & Shirrin also presented their latest collection with classic yet trendy garments in perfect cuts which had an amazing range of colors and combinations.

It’s named Out of the Blue this time as it adorns the female form in droplets of crystal clear water refracted and reflected every ray of light falling on it. The stunning collection of jewellery and accessories for Spring Summer 2010 by Swarovski is inspired by water defined as the new abode of luxury while the world strives towards protecting the environment.

The most sensual arousing jewellery collection is preciously set in three lines, Beauty Drops, Marina Blue and Sea, Light and Fun. The Beauty Drops line of ultra fluid pieces features The Liquid necklace, a long chain highlighted by droplets of crystal, along with a magnificent cut crystal in a flowing rhodium-plated casing that creates a flowing effect. The next in this line is Levity in a delicate handcrafted beading where the design plays with the ever changing shape of the jelly fish set in a multitude of opalescent and coral-coloured crystals connected in various places to a long chain.

And now the Marina Blue is composed of an explosion of blues and reds inspired from the corals and shells. Here the Lagoon necklace drips with a flow of numerous faceted crystals and a host of rings within this theme act as refreshing droplets scattered with multicolored crystals and also admixing the ultra oomph to the section of cocktail rings.

And for the fun part Sea, Light and Fun stores the “Elvis” and “Erika” pendants portraying a charming crab and a gracious water droplet covered entirely in the shades of coral or blue crystals, and worn on the charmed bracelets with the Crab, Octopus and Red Fish charms cheerfully bringing good luck.

She is the one with the strong resolve. Hailing from London she says she loves doing household chores. Shuttling between UK and India, she has been in this industry for just over a year. Living in Delhi, she is the official model for the Wills Fashion Week; she has walked the ramp for almost every Indian designer you can think of.  She is most happy spending time with those who are closest to her; her family and friends. However, she is a passionate traveler and loves getting out and about, travelling and meeting new people.

The most alluring part of this industry to her is that every day she wakes up it is a new day and there is something new to do. She enjoys the nature of the work. Modeling is a great way to meet new people and interesting people. We caught her between and editorial shoot and the Kolkata Fashion Week and got her talking about her life and her work. Meet the London cum Delhi girl, Rebbeca Tyagi.

Family and Academics…
I come from a very close family who are mostly in London. Dad has been travelling with work for years which has meant a lot of travel for me growing up, and he is currently working in Kenya. My schooling has been in the UK, then South Africa and then back to boarding school in the UK. I did my university studies in Bristol.

Parent’s reaction to your choice of modeling as a career…
My parents are happy with my modeling. I am fortunate to have such a loving family who, as long as I am happy and healthy, are happy too.

First modeling assignment…
My first assignment was a preview for Sabyasachi Mukherjee in a store in Delhi.

Greatest achievement till date…
I would say that moving here and setting up on my own has been quite a substantial achievement in my life so far.

Idea of an ideal date
Honestly I wouldn’t say I have a dream ideal date scenario. A connection with the person I am with is more important to me than what the surroundings have to offer.

When not modeling what are you most likely to be found doing…
If I’m not working I’m most likely to be with friends or out and about shopping. As I grew up travelling a lot, it has developed into a passion. If I have enough time I’d probably try and make a travel plan.

Five essentials for a model to climb the ladder of success…
Not in any order, I’d say they have to keep a clear head and stay focused. They should remain real and not let success change them. They should look after themselves and live a healthy life style. Don’t take things personally in this industry.

Views on Indian vs. Western models…
I’m no one to categorize so easily. One thing about modeling in India is that the modeling life here is longer, which is great. Overseas ages becomes too black and white, whereas here, girls that have been modeling for years are still doing so and still look amazing in their work.

The most touching moment of your life…
Most touching moment was when my little sister was born just over a year ago. Truly Amazing!!!

YOUR PIECE OF ADVICE FOR UPCOMING MODELS: As I said earlier, don’t take things personally in this industry. It is important to realize that some jobs you will get, and some you won’t. Everyone has their own look and although that look might not suit one job, it might be perfect for the next.

Be strong not only in terms of accepting not getting selected, but in terms of what might be said to you. In any career, anywhere in the world, one always needs positive and negative feedback. It may seem hard in this industry because the comments are so much more personal, be it to do with your walk, your weight, your attitude, but these are the essentials of this work. Negative feedback is in fact a positive thing and it is important to remember that!

Estée Lauder embarked on New York Fashion Week, sponsoring the beauty look (makeup & nails) at the Derek Lam fall 2010 runway show. As the Bold blue eyes, copper lips, matte skin, bare cheeks and neutral nails ruled the catwalk.

Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux led a team of 15 artists to create the stunning look on 22 models, while famed manicurist Jin Soon Choi and her team polished their nails with a new Estée Lauder color that was tested backstage.

On his makeup look inspiration for Derek Lam’s show “The Myth of the West” Tom Pecheux said "When Derek showed me the fabrics that inspired his Fall 2010 collection – bold and muted tones mixed with earthy pigments including terracotta, greens and browns – I thought the makeup shades should be complimentary. So we chose a blend of bold blue shadows on the eyes, shimmering copper lips, and flawless, matte skin created with a light foundation — an on-trend beauty preview of what we will see for Fall 2010."

Betsey Makes Us Smile :Betsey Johnson’s return to the runway, after two years, was well worth the wait.  The show opened with model thin, Kelly Osbourne, who strutted down a hay scattered runway with two bright green toy guns in hand; can you say Wild Wild West.  Johnson’s inspiration this season was 45 years worth of her own archives. "I’m working on my stuff, being very true-blue Betsey," she said.  The final look at the show was a dedication to the late designer Alexander McQueen. A model, adorned with enlarged red wax lips walked down the runway with a small bouquet of red roses and a sign that said, "LONG LIVE MCQUEEN!"

Buy Straight Off the Runway: Proenza Schouler designer’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are exclusively selling their runway bags on their website, proenzaschouler.com, 24 hours after their F/W 2010 collection on Wednesday, Feb 17 at Milk Studios.  Online shoppers can preorder the fall handbags straight from the runway through the recently introduced e-commerce on the site.

Unisex Clothing: Androgyny was the theme for Rad Hourani’s F/W 2010 collection. The show included both the male and female models dressed in tights, high heels, bike shorts, and layers of black. The coats had multiple compartments and zippers, so one piece could transform into several different shapes.  "Unisex is my main focus," Hourani told NY Times. "All my pieces are unisex so you can wear it feminine, masculine, a guy can wear it, a girl can wear it, at any age, anytime, anywhere…I don’t like to put limits to gender," the Canadian-born designer explained. "I think everybody is feminine, and everybody is born unisex."

Keeping Your Hands Warm: Gloves are perhaps one of the must-have accessories this season, so choosing the right pair can make all the difference.  They commanded lots of attention on the runways, each uniquely designed, with new variations of textures, fabrics, and colors.  Donna Karan’s long pair featured flower-shape cutouts that created a lacy-leather effect.  Chris Benz designed eye-catching lime-green furry mitts.   And Carolina Herrera’s just below the elbow gloves wove apple-red patent leather and suede together.

A Return to Elegance: Carolina Herrera, one of the most elegantly dressed designers in fashion, delivered a charming and glamorous collection fit for a lady.  The clothes were an outright presentation of pure luxury, with fur trim, voluminous sleeves, and wide-leg silk pants.   She impressed the critics right down to Cathy Horyn of the New York Times who wrote she “seemed to put more of herself into the clothes,” including a dress printed in tiny reproductions of a family photo.  WWD added, “The embrace of opulence felt oddly comforting.”  Everyone seemed to appreciate the designer’s return to elegance.

Feeling the Cut Backs: After throwing one of the most lavish runway shows last season adorned with five grand pianos lining the runway, Zac Posen cuts back substantially for his latest collection.  As recession woes hit designers, especially small companies like Posen, it’s sad to see how they have to hold back creatively.  The collection was far removed from Posen’s usual obsession with ball skirts and gowns, but in their absence, he focused on sportswear for the season.  The collection was a combination of pantsuits with a forties flair, luxe coats to brightly colored separates, stacked Plexiglas bangles and pom pom peppered shoes, which all worked together to deliver something cohesive and vibrant.  Keeping his core customer in mind, Posen maintained high and sexy hemlines, yet provided something for the conservative set in straight-legged satin pants and mandarin collar jackets.

The Devil Really Does Wear Prada: Former Vogue cover girl, Paulina Porizkova, seeks revenge in a Huffington Post blog after she gets snubbed by Anna Wintour in the ladies’ room at a recent AmFAR benefit.  Porizkova writes: "I walked in and almost straight into Anna Wintour.’Hi, Anna,’ I said brightly to Anna’s mirror reflection. Her large eyes in her large head flickered. And with the slightest nod, one that may have been a twitch, she left me standing at the sinks. I admit I felt a bit more than slighted, I was after all, on quite a few covers of her magazine, and the glance she gave me is one I’d give to an expired carton of milk. I am aware my expiration date (as a model) is long past, but a slight acknowledgment that I wasn’t the bathroom attendant would have been nice."

Jacobs Pleases the Crowd: To start the F/W 2010 show, Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy appeared on opposite corners and ripped away brown paper covering a simple wood stage at the end of the runway, revealing a tableau of 56 models elegantly dressed in a palette of soft neutral colors, pale pastels and demure shapes.  Heightened by Frederic Sanchez’s soundtrack, covers of “Over the Rainbow” blared out the speakers as the first girl took to the runway in a gray sweatshirt with a crisscrossed back, tweedy gray culottes and ankle socks.  To those familiar with the designer’s early work, it all seemed to be a case of déjà vu. The collection was 180 degrees removed from last fall’s wild Eighties theme but the design process remained constant. “Everything is a celebration of something, whether it’s beige or Day-Glo yellow,” Jacobs said. “It doesn’t have to be a thing. You can make a thing out of anything you’re passionate about.”

Victoria Beckham Charms Them: In an intimate presentation for about 20-30 people, at the grand Upper East Side room, Victoria Beckham had quite a posh affair.   With an audience that included Carine Roitfeld, Nina Garcia and Karl Lagerfeld, you have a room filled with fashions most respected.  Victoria Beckham’s Dick Tracy-inspired fall collection charmed the critics, not to mention her personal greetings and look-by-look narration. British Vogue called it “a very beautiful collection that evolved her body con aesthetic,” and Style.com declared that “there wasn’t one bad dress in the bunch.” Most critics noted the evolution of Beckham’s designs, admiring a “newfound focus on draping and fluidly.”

Idaa is a name synonymous to individualistic style statements in body adornments. The word Idaa which means earth very truly attributes the designer’s sensibility of creating jewellery that is raw, uncut, asymmetric, earthy and basic in terms of self expression set in precious and semi precious stones and an exhaustive flow of beads.

The brand is the cradle baby of  New Jersey based designer Ritu Kapoor and the label was launched during her study tenure at Parsons, New York, where she got inspired to create high-end leather handbags  and stone stunning jewellery made in USA, a style infused with vibrancy of colours as it ranges from bold and sultry to subtle and elegant.

She creates jewellery in an amplified dimension of space as Ritu brings back her experience from several trips to beading places and collects choice pieces from the stones lovers who have been collecting stones from years. Ritu also exclusively designs custom made stones, metal embellishments, and handmade silk strands to define her detailed pieces of adornments with distinctive beading techniques all in one necklace.

Idaa’s present collection is all about long and short necklaces with heterogeneous stones in a galaxy of colours which can be worn all year long and every time you wear each piece it makes you feel confident and you get noticed with any piece of this magnificent collection.

Ritu speaking on her inspiration says, “Accessories look good on racks. But I want all my pieces to look exquisite when one wears it. And my most memorable moment in life was when I came to know that the biggest customer of my jewelry for the year 2009 is one of my instructors of Fashion school "Parsons" NY. She did not know either, Idaa is my company. I came to know when my sales person was getting her parcel ready for courier, with her name on it.”

The promising and exuberant label Idaa retails from her office in New Jersey and through her website www.idaadesigns.com. And emerging on the fashion scene in India she has already showcased at LFW ’09.

A&T celebrates Spring with a collection of dresses in light weight voiles of silk and cotton , are in colors that celebrates a new season.

The styles of the season were showcased by models Prerna Sharma and Harshita in a relaxed and highly flexible city dressing, dress shapes were easy with movement and drape, while being slim and body aware. Delicate edgings in pleated silks and unusual trims added depth to a slim linen dress in shades of eggshell, leek and cloud. Large tulips were casually sketched onto a crinkly silk day dress.

Nature being the inspiration behind his spring collection, David said, “The colors of spring are the colors of new leaves; young grass; the beautiful flowers that emerge all over Delhi crowding the roundabout; the potted blooms of pink, blush, rose and coral.”
