Bollywood celebrities walked the ramp for fashion designer Manish Malhotra at an exclusive fashion show in Mumbai dedicated to Mijwan Welfare Society, founded by Kaifi Azmi. As the Chief Patron, daughter Shabana Azmi organised the ‘Sonnets in Fabric’ as a fund raising initiative for her NGO that believes in empowering the girl child specially in the rural areas. Namrata Goel is the youth President who is actively involved in promoting the cause. So far fashion designer Anita Dongre has been closely associated with the Kaifi Azmi Chikankari Centre in Mijwan village in Uttar Pradesh and at present Manish Malhotra has adopted this centre for a year to help the girls earn their livelihood by giving them work.

Making the evening a visual extravaganza for the selective audience, Manish unveiled his collection that showcased beautiful handwork. The anarkali ankle-length kurtas, the ghagra skirts or the long tops over  the lehengas had beautiful resham thread work, self-embossed prints and subtle hand-woven sequin work. What caught the attention were the volumes, multiple layering and the extensions that made the look very elegant and high couture. Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s attire for instance glided over the ramp as she walked. Priyanka Chopra’s choli had interesting chain detailing work at the back while Dia Mirza’s lehenga- choli was in stunning purple colour chiffon fabric that had interesting velvet patches and zari work all through. Lara Dutta, the bride to be blushed in peach lehenga choli that had glittering swarovski crystals beautifully studded on the outfit.

The men mostly donned straight cut sherwanis teamed up with a variety of options in bottom-wear like jockey pants, dhotis, churidars, pajamas and more. The colour play was interesting as Farhan Akhtar wore a pair of shimmering red pants with a black velvet sherwani, while Tusshar Kapoor spotted the jockey pants in grey with a black coat, Ranbir Kapoor wore a hand-worked white dhoti with a black bandhgala coat  and show stopper Hrithik Roshan walked in a classic white sherwani and black satin, self- embossed, printed churidar.

The prominent guests who graced the front rows included Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Sunil and Mana Shetty, Yash and Pamela Chopra, Kiron Kher, Sharon Prabhakar and Alyque Padamsee to mention a few.
