Black eyes and black hair, she is 5 ft. 7 inches tall. This 22 year old beauty Ushoshi Sengupta was crowned the first I AM SHE – Miss Universe India 2010. The perfect idol of beauty with brains Ushoshi is a very brilliant student and holds a Bachelors Degree in Humanities from St. Xavier’s College. The ravishing beauty from Bengal gets cozy and spills the beans as fashionfad.in get in conversation with the curly hairs and the mrignayans. Tell us briefly about your formative years and academics?
I am an Airforce kid. My growing up was in different parts of the country. I was born in New Delhi than travelled to Gujarat and then to Kolkata. I studied at the Kendriya Vidyalaya and then graduated from St. Xaviers College. I also hold a diploma in hospitality and travel management. Growing up in a Defence background was the biggest learning experience for me. Watching people from different cultures, different states really helped me in growing my personality.
How was your experience at Miss Universe 2010 contest?
Miss universe 2010 was so far the best experience of my life. Very few women in this universe get this opportunity and I’m very thankfull to god that I AM one of them. Well as they say it’s the celebration of “universal beauty”. Women from different parts of the world and there beauty is different everywhere….black skin, brown skin, white skin, black hair, brown hair, blue eyes, brown eyes…..and everybody is competing to get honour for her country. I have made some lifelong friends there…it’s a great feeling to know that u know somebody in each country of this world…!! ?
So now what are your further plans? Is Bollywood in pipeline?
I love films….I will definitely do films soon….but as of now I think I have a lot more to explore as a model…..!!
How you bumped into your first assignment? How it changed your life?
I won an inter college model hunt. After that I got my first fashion show which was the graduating show for one design school…I was noticed by a makeup artist Nabin Das from Kolkata. He helped me get through Sananda Tilottama–the biggest beauty pageant in east where I was trained by Noyonika Chatterjee. Since then I never really looked back.
What did you aspire to become as kid?
It brings a secret smile on my face. As a kid and always I wanted to become Sushmita Sen, acting and modeling has always been my passion.
Where do you see yourself in this cut throat competitive industry? What’s your success mantra?
I have always been very true to myself. I believe if you are talented and hardworking you will be making the cut. My success mantra has been do what you love doing whether it’s a 9 to 5 job or being in the limelight you will only succeed if you are happy and satisfied with your work.
What do you love and hate most about modeling?I love the limelight the fact that people want to know what you wear, what you eat,…..looking like a million dollar when on the runway travelling to the best of the places….I love everything about my profession……what I hate is that a lot of fake people take advantage of young girls from small cities by selling them the dream of making it big in modeling. Which is sad but true…!!
What’s your take on drug abuse and suicides which are so prevalent in the entertainment industry?
Not only in the entertainment industry it’s prevalent everywhere whether it’s corporate, hospitality or any other industry. Since our industry is always in the limelight people notice this more here. I think it’s up to the individual how you deal with it. No one can force u to do anything; you always do it with your own willingness.
Which designers have you worked with nationally and internationally? Whom do you find appealing your aesthetic senses most?
I have worked with a lot of designers from Kolkata – Kiran Uttam Ghosh, Anamika Khanna, Dev r Nil, Eeina Aluwaliah, Babita Malkhani, Rajat Tangri , Abhishek Dutta, Geisha Designs, Malini Ramani and many more.
Internationally I have worked with Sherry Hill and Tala Rassi during MU 2010 . My fav is Malini Ramani……she is someone whose clothes appeal to me the most..!!
Which other projects have you graced with your presence? Any big project in the pipeline?
There are few things coming up which I can’t really talk about now……I have walked for a lot of fashion weeks. And shot for a lot designers too. I was the face of Kolkata Fashion Week. And then I did my debut at Chennai International Fashion Week…I walked for Lakme this season for Rajat Tangri and Eeina Aluwaliah.
How is Ushoshi as a person? What does she to do when not modeling?
My friends will vouch for this one. I am fun loving I love to party with my friends. Go for movies cry when Shah Rukh Khan is dying or blush when Ranbir Kapoor is towel dancing…hahahaha…..late night drives, eating at dhaba’s….I am everything a 22yrs old should be…!! If I am not modeling I am always around my friends and family. My dad is my best friend so I spend a lot of time discussing about my career plans…my crushes…and a lot of fun stuff with him….!!:)
Where do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
Doing good films…!!!
Any social cause you are associated with?
I work for ANI foundation which is under the “I am” foundation and one of my responsibilities as Miss Universe India to work for them.
Which is the most cherished moment in your modeling career?
I think when I won I AM SHE –miss universe India 2010.!!
What’s your beauty and fitness regime?I work out every alternate day…I am blessed with a thin waistline. My beauty regime includes sleeping at least 7-8 hrs. I guess that covers up 80%of the task and eating healthy. I drink two glasses of vegetable juice every day.
What is your idea of an ideal date?
My perfect date would be by a beach side just spending some quality lazy time with my boyfriend….good food…good wine…and the perfect music to set up the mood…..Imay just go dancing on the beach side with my guy…..hahahaha…!!
What’s your style statement?
I never really cared how I dress up till I won ‘I am She’ and I saw how many people actually keep an eye on what I wear…!!
I love to dress up casual my skinny jeans t-shirts are my favorites… but when I am out partying with my friend I love dressing up……my fav in the wardrobe is this gold bling one shoulder dress by Rajat Tangri !
