The femme fatale with that seductive glint in eyes and bee kissed pout is quite a Mexican at heart, where she hails from, and knows how to keep men drooling and women envying. The Miss Mexico 2007 Elisa Najera Gualito standing at 6 feet with ample curves, smile as big as Mississippi and heart filled with innocuous love exudes an aura of Brigitte Bardot meets Jean Shrimpton.

The diva visited India of late and Fashionfad.in exclusively caught up with her. Here is tete-e-tete with Elisa…

Tell us something about your academics and early life…
I was always very studious as a kid. I had a very culturally strong and happy childhood.

The dizzying heights you touched make you stand apart from the rest. Tell us something about your journey from a simple starry eyed lasso to a ramp scorcher…
It was like a fairy tale. It all happened very suddenly when I was just 16 years old. Before I knew what was happening, I was representing my country on an International platform. All good things, wonderful people and great associations like being the Brand Ambassador of Corralejo tequila happened soon after.

How do you see the future of fashion in India…
India is very dynamic and the designers are very talented. The way the country is going, I see a very bright future in fashion for India.

Having been in one of the most glamorous industry how do you see fashion as from an insider’s point of view…
Fashion is not just clothing or accessories but an extension of your personality. Being comfortable in what you wear is also important as it means you are not faking who you are.

Are you planning to visit India often & shall we see you participating in the forthcoming Fashion weeks? How do you see fashion in India vis-a- vis Mexico…
I hope to be in India soon. I love India and its culture. Fashion in India and Mexico is similar but I do think India has many more extreme faces to fashion than Mexico.

What about the modeling industry globally and in India at present and what it has grown from…
Modeling is a much tougher industry than what it was a few years back. Now a day, model does not only have to be fit physically but also mentally. Models need to be role models, brand ambassadors and also good actors. The exposure that we have now has changed what modeling used to be earlier.

Tell us also the story backstage about your interactions with models & designers who put together such a picture perfect show…
Backstage is nearly always a chaos. I have made wonderful friends backstage as we all go through all the same stress, anxiety, excitement and happiness.
Like I said, we need to be good actors too. All the stress and anxiety backstage should never come on the ramp. A great designer, good collection, good management and professional models make a great show.

What are your passions other than modeling…
I love to read a lot! Any time that I get a little time, I take out a book and start reading.
