Born and brought up in New York, fashion prodigy Diva Dhawan landed on the ramp when she was just 14. It was the charity shows for Manish Arora and JJ Valaya in New York which introduced this attitude laden fay to the Indian fashion alleys. Ensconced by now, the Garnier girl flaunting her long trailing hair is a regular ravishing feature of Indian ramps.

Haloed with fashion, Diva is pursuing her studies at F.I.T, New York City. Splicing her engagement with modeling and marriage with fashion she is straddling the joust of love these days. So lets know more about coercible-ly gravitating Diva Dhawan.

Tell us briefly about your early life, family and academics?
I was born & brought up on Long Island which is in New York. Even as a child I would visit India frequently to see family. I went to private school here & am now still studying at F.I.T which is the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. I love it! It was always my dream school. Even though I now spend my time between India & NY, my family still lives here but my mom often comes to India with me.

How you bumped into your first assignment?
It started out while walking for Charity fashion shows which were taking place in NY. The designers who had participated were Manish & JJ. After that I started working in India.

What did you aspire to become as kid?
It was never one specific thing. Actually, I always had an interest in Fashion, but always about the business side. Though, I always knew I wanted to travel for my work.

Which shows ( designers) and commercials have you graced with your presence?
I’ve participated in fashion week for the last three years in Delhi. And I just finished my first Lakme Fashion Week as well. So I guess almost all the designers who have taken part in either of these events. As for commercials, I’ve only done Garnier for hair care.

Your greatest achievement?
Being able to work & live in India while Studying in NYC.

When not modeling what are you most likely to be found doing?
Watching movies, studying, & eating out with friends.

Any social cause that you feel strongly for and want to be( or you are ) associated with?
I have helped out with a charity called Children’s Hope, it reaches out to children in poverty providing them with a home & food. Personally on a day to day basis it’s nice to know you can do something little for someone to make their lives easier. I believe more in living your life somewhat like a social cause itself.

What has been the most touching moment of your life?
That’s a tough question, I appreciate a lot of moments in my life..mmmm…. I think if you ask me again in a couple of years, I may have the answer ?

Your take on modeling industry in India and abroad?
Regarding the modeling industry, India is still growing compared to other markets. The way the business works in India is different than the way things work abroad.

What is fashion for you?
I like to quote one of my much loved professors when it comes to fashion – “Fashion is Evolutionary, Not Revolutionary”
