If one happens to remember the French model, Isabelle Caro (and her freaking skeletal structure), who died fighting with anorexia at 28, then epidemic status of anorexia and bulimia in fashion industry might not startle you, as over the years and grilling debates it still holds to be a requisite if you are in front of camera.

From New York to India, the modern perception of beauty calls for waif like look creating a ripple effect of reed thin girls generically. The changed definition of beauty promoting malnutrition, and thus consequent health related problems made the government of Israel banning underweight models in ads as it tries to fight prevailing eating disorders in budding crop of girls.

Israel Bans Skinny Models

The ban posing a challenge to the standards of beauty in fashion industry claims that it can also serve as an example for other countries where the lifestyle of models is cause celebre much like Israel. The new law passed asks models to produce a medical certificate of their health in last three months before any shoot to be released in the public. The report should follow the standards set by World Health Organization, which tags the body mass index below 18.5 as malnourished. It also states that use of technology to contort the body shapes of the models must be disclosed to the public with a clear written notice.

In context of India where Yana Gupta recently spilled the beans about the prevalence of body issues and such eating disorders among models we hope some sort of preventive measures may surface soon to encourage healthy living.
