Artist and filmmaker Simran KS Lamba presents his first solo art exhibition in the city at Visual Art Gallery, IHC from 29th July’10 to 1st August’10. The art works was unveiled by Shriji Arvind Singhji Mewar, Maharana of Udaipur.

Genesis’ is the beginning of a journey in arena of mixed media. Coal tar, lead, aluminum; have been used in bold abstractions in this series and are Simran’s foremost work mediums. Gauge, mesh, wax, bolts and nails, are the other resources which find a way into the paintings. The inspiration too stands as diverse as the technique, style and materials used in the collection. From animals to beetles to gods to funerals to abstract, the muse varies with each painting. Nothing stops at a single stage with treatment being integral. Each stage is constantly layered and eventually metamorphoses completely as tar blends in with wax, lead, aluminum, gauge, mesh, wax, bolts and nails creating a mélange of abstraction that finally rests in Genesis: The Beginning.

Simran KS Lamba, a self taught artist, plans to take the art world by storm. Conceptualizing and assimilating a new medium. Simran learnt to experiment with ideas without the fear of criticism or of being rejected. Creativity has been his passion from the very beginning. His film, My Nicotine, about a man waiting in a room and capturing his expressions was screened at the Cape Town World Film Festival in 2005. His other movie, WB-04 C-5542 was nominated for the Tiscali short film festival award in Italy in 2006. Simran has also made his mark on the small screen being the associate creative director of popular TV serials, Dill Mill Gaye and Pyar Vyar and All That. Currently he is busy taking auditions for his next movie titled ‘Chikotee’.

Sequel, as the name suggests, is a restaurant that has taken the coffee shop experience to the next level. A United Group project, Sequel aims to create the same feel as the United Coffee House with loads of variety. The three storey fine http://varunkaushik.com/userfiles/nightOut/http://varunkaushik.com/userfiles/nightOut/dining/dining/http://varunkaushik.com/userfiles/nightOut/dining/dining venue offers a hip and comfortable environment to catch a quick lunch or leisurely dinner.

I am normally not all about eating out (only when my stomach permits) but the Sequel was highly recommended to me so I had to try it. From the outside it looks like nothing special, you could actually almost miss it. When we were there, there was a man standing out front who helped us in getting seated and would not allow anyone to enter. The decor looked very posh and it made you feel like you were in some really fancy restaurant, with the hefty prices.

A prolific menu adorned by Mediterranean and European dishes along with Asian and authentic Indian cuisine will leave you spoilt for choice to say the least. I had this gorgeous Mediterranean starter Arabian Prawns, spinach and mushrooms and their signature dishes in the main course were to die for! The meat was so fresh and perfectly seasoned it is a must have.  I was also impressed by the generous portions.

Despite high turnover in the kitchen, this cozy Defence Colony favourite offer well-made fare with a more avant-garde sensibility than its competition along the strip, I suppose. United Coffee House started its story over 65 years ago and Sequel has added a completely new page to this saga. They understand people’s diverse tastes ranging from traditional Indian to European and look to satisfy every taste bud.

The Strength of Vinayak lies in combining the rich textiles of India like khinkhabs, pure brocades, pure silk, delicate nets, shimmery tissues, metallic fabrics along with the rich Indian handcrafted embroidery.

It was the baroquely adorned atrium of DLF Emporio which witnessed the lavish bridal extravaganza amidst the drama and celebrations by veteran Tarun Tahiliani. It was like a humongous wedding affair with floral and light effects among other object d’ art like a huge Swarvoski studded elephant and the palace set up which gravitated every ball and fancy. Umpteen mannequins dressed in typical Indian wedding ensembles gave an illusion of  groom’s men and bridal invitees to fill the colors and style in this parti-colored event.

The show which was commenced by Lisa Haydon strutting down the ramp in the off white structured saree further graduated to densely crystallized lehangas teamed with bra tops. Fusing more glitter and panache, there comes chiffon and silk draped masterpieces in beige, ivory and crème with breath taking prints and embroideries narrating stories of Indian tradition.

The menswear was high on luxe and royalty ferrying the viewers to the life and grandeur of Maharajas. Mainly concocted of finely stitched graceful sherwanis in beige and red tones, the show was high on ethnicity and opulence of Indian tradition.
