As the extremely awaited Lakme Fashion Week is out to enthral the country with endless amount of glitz and glamour, it introduces six debutant designers under the GenNext category, showcasing their collections for the first time ever at the prestigious platform. Following is a glimpse to these rising star’s creativity on the run way:
Ujjawal Dubey
The designer who believes in simplicity and minimalism, contrastingly names his collection ‘Antar-Agni’. Inspired by the indigenous looks of the middle and the far-east, his collection was a complex blend of drapes, falls and fabrics causing some real drama on the run way. The colour palette was replete of soothing colours like navy blue, beige, charcoal and light blue.
Divya Sheth
This multi-talented designer excels in the fields of make-up and styling and is a photography graduate from NIFT, Delhi. She debuts at the Lakme Fashion Week with a collection inspired by Mary Cassatt’s painting, ‘Lady at The Tea Table’, and from the Moroccan, Chinese and Japanese blue pottery. The colour scheme accordingly varied between different shades of blue, greys and blacks. Her collection comprised of the like of draped evening gowns and dresses.
Parul Bhargava
A graduate from London College of Fashion, Parul’s label ‘Mirage’ is a tribute to French designs and aesthetics. Beautifying the same, her GenNext collection was a blend of both skin-tight and loose fitted, above knee-length dresses. The silhouettes were highlighted by creative hand embroidery and specially developed prints. The collection was a silent encapsulation of simplicity and glamour.
Sreejith Jeevan
The Kochi-based designer brought fourth is collection named ‘Weather Forecast’ set an amusing atmosphere at the ramp with the models walking with an umbrella in their hands, gracefully clad in midis, capris and loose skirts. Employed fabrics included light-embroidered chiffon, net, cotton, and cotton-silks.
Chandni Mohan
The Delhi-based designer’s label, ‘SELVAGE’ is all about keeping it simple and elegant, with a dominant amount of detailed silhouettes and edges. Her collection inspired by Preston Scott Cohen’s architectural works, was replete of short and sexy dresses with a few drapes and folds. The colour scheme, however, was more dramatic and loud ranging between hot reds and blacks.
Vilvin Sabu
This Pune based designer exhibits her utter interest in comfortable western wear. Her collection at the fashion week titled ‘Tropic chic’, aptly named, was a graphical representation of the botanicals and the amazon forests. The garments were an exclusive collection of western wear including short, full-sleeved and cut-sleeved dresses with a unique use of sea blue, green, black and grey.
