In celebration of the seventieth anniversary, one of the world’s most prestigious couture houses, the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne presents The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture, the first complete Dior collection to be shown outside of Paris.

Exclusive to Melbourne, this exhibition is a collaboration between the NGV and the House of Dior and includes a sumptuous display of more than 140 garments designed by Christian Dior Couture between 1947 and 2017.

The House of Dior explores the story of the fashion house through a series of themes, featuring works by the seven designers who have played key roles in shaping Dior’s renowned fashionable silhouette: Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri.

The exhibition narrates the rich history of the fashion house, including Christian Dior’s early influences, the design codes synonymous with the House of Dior, insights into the Dior atelier workrooms, the role that accessories have played in expressing the complete Dior look and the milestones of its six successive designers following Christian Dior’s sudden death in 1957.
Highlights include examples from Christian Dior’s iconic spring 1947 New Look collection, magnificent displays of Dior’s signature ball gowns and evening dresses, as well as designs from the inaugural couture collection of the House’s first female head designer, Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Dior’s unique and longstanding affinity with Australia is also examined, including the historic Spring 1948 fashion parade at David Jones, Sydney, where models wore fifty original creations by Christian Dior.

Draped impeccably in ensembles by coveted designers, the differently-abled children of the NGO Tamana, walked the ramp at a fashion show, titled “Infinite Opportunity” held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, in the capital.

Mrs. Sangeeta Jaitely graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. H.E. Ms. Harinder Sidhu, Australian High Commissioner to India was the Guest of Honour, Bollywood star KritiSanon was the Champion of the cause of Disability, Sunil Sethi was the Torch Bearer of Inclusion, along with other distinguished attendees present at this annual event.

The evening began with a welcome song by visually impaired singer, Diwakar Sharma and Miss Teen Universe 2017, Srishti Kaur also supported the cause walking as the Model of Inclusion. KritiSanon, Shiv Jatia, SonalKalra and Sunil Sethi were awarded for their contribution to the cause.

Walking along with leading models wearing ensembles crafted by designers – Abraham &Thakore, Anju Modi, Gaurav Jai Gupta, Payal Jain, Amit Aggarwal, Rajesh Pratap Singh, PayalPratap Singh and Sanjay Garg; children of Tamana exuded confidence.

Bangkok’s first prison themed hostel, offers narrow rooms, metal bars and bunk beds, promises the look and feel of a real jail in the bustling Thai capital.The Sook Station hostel in Bangkok’s Udom Suk neighbourhood offers guests pin-striped pyjamas and a wall with a height chart where they can have their mugshots taken and even lights off curfew.

They are also given a ‘criminal record’ keepsake and an inmate number instead of a room key. The hotel offers shared bathroom facilities, in keeping with a real jail. Enclosed by a perimeter fence topped with razor wire, the unconventional venue deliberately walks a fine line between custody and comfort.

Master couturier and one of the leading names in the fashion fraternity Manav Gangwani, presented his latest couture collection “India @ 70” to celebrate India’s 70 years of independence at the Stockholm Culture Festival, hosted by the Ambassador of India, Monika Kapil Mohta in partnership with India Unlimited an organization connecting Sweden to India hosted alongside gala dinner at the Radisson Waterfront Congress Hotel.

Keeping in mind thetheme for this occasion, Manav showcased his latest haute couture collection “India @ 70”, the collection is an amalgamation of the rich heritage of India along with modern
edgy elements from different regions like Kashmir reflecting Jamawars, Bandhanis of Rajasthan, Kathakali from Kerala and Brocades of Varanasi. Using different techniques like Badla, Chikankari, Zardosi & Parsi etc. From the God Goddesses of India to Meenakari to Patolas to Panthani all forms have been used to reflect India. The colour pallet were hues that are most commonly seen in India, royal blue, crimson, ivory, orange and green.

The event was attended by eminent guests from all over the globe, some including, three Swedish Ministers: Minister Mikael Damberg, Minister. Ann Linde and Minister Anna Ekström. Diana: Her Fashion Story, marks the anniversary of her death, traces her days as a naive teen aristocrat in demure clothes to global fashion goddess.

The exhibit mainly includes outfits she auctioned for charity before she died, and more were auctioned to collectors after she died alongside 25 outfits, plus designers’ sketches of their outfits, reflective of 1980s fashion.

For upcoming US Open, Maria Sharapova will be seen wearing a Swarovski-studded tennis dress by Riccardo Tisciin all-black, featuring technical lace with eyelet during her night matches, all for Nike. A play of materials, textures, and shapes, the look comes complete with a black bomber jacket, tailored specifically for Sharapova.

The reason for Black, being? In 2006, Sharapova won the US Open in a black dress. “When I think of anywhere that I play, I want to bring a sense of elegance to the feeling that I have when I walk on to the court,she says, adding further, “There are so many things that really make sense in this collaboration. The inspiration was there from the first moment that we sat down together.”
