Not only is New York Fashion Week moving to some downtown location from Lincoln Center after February, but Mercedes-Benz will no longer be the title sponsor of the event. While the luxury car brand is leaving the fashion extravaganza in New York while it still plans on supporting other International fashion weeks.Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will simply be called “New York Fashion Week” starting this fall.
IMG has also announced that it plans to acquire Made Fashion Week, which launched during the recession to offer free venue space to up-and-coming designers who couldn’t afford a spot at Lincoln Center. The Made acquisition is in “final negotiations” and will go into effect before September’s Fashion Week. Made owners Keith Baptista, Jenné Lombardo and Mazdack Rassi who announced their new initiative, Made Music, in October will remain as consultants.
