Viral and her husband Ashish together launched the label ‘Virtues’ in 2003. Vikrant, a young qualified designer and model from New Delhi joined the team in 2007 and worked as an associate designer with them. Of the three, Viral is a graduate from NIFT, Delhi and Ashish is a well taught MBA from Australia.

Ashish is from the ‘Manchester of the East’-Ahmedabad, with no formal grooming in fashion and textiles, has mastered the art of whipping fabric around a woman’s body. Controlled use of textured fabrics to the likes of georgette, French chiffon and satin together with strategic draping acknowledges his lines of creations. Experimenting with yarn and weavers has always been a passion for him. Each fabric he works on reflects a period and represents a particular region from the vast Indian Heritage. He lays emphasis on fabric texturing and yarn dyeing. Playing around with fabric right from the yarn stage is what makes any design stand out distinctively and that is what he believes is his design credo.

Speaking of their early years, Viral has had the commendable experience of working as an intern with Dior, Paris. She assisted John Galliano’s his Autumn Winter Haute Couture collection ’98.

Meanwhile, Virtues is all about high quality Indian Handloom silks that are used to create depth. The designers derive a lot of inspiration from geometry and origami. However, Ashish always dedicates a part of his collection to Ikat- a traditional yarn dyed weaving technique that creates dynamic designs with vibrant colours on a loom. His macrocosms have already made waves and stood out in class and originality. They are so smitten by traditionalism that they have a set of weavers in Varanasi exclusively weaving on handlooms and power-looms for their creations.

Over the years, the designers have made their magnificent public appearance at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Weeks, and have been massively appreciated for their creativity and innovation.

The label is retailed through 21 stores all over the world with the designers’ exclusive studios in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, New York, Vancouver and Singapore.
