For Cruise 2014, the Gucci woman soars towards a sun-soaked horizon. With her sights set on Rio de Janeiro, Creative Director Frida Giannini envisions rhythmic glamour pulsating to the tide: “A collection of all my getaway essentials, designed for an up and coming Jerry Hall beaming with breezy style.”

Relaxed lines and oversized proportions. Jumpsuits and outerwear belted at the waist like a luxurious nightgown. Tunics paired with masculine, fluid pants for a powerful yet soft attitude. Strikingly feminine overalls and long shirt dresses. The new kimono gown or the wrap dress with asymmetrical pleats. Informal and everyday, athletic references work their way into the collection with bombers, windbreakers, basketball-inspired t-shirts, maxi shorts. Sweetheart infatuation outlined by dresses that tie and gather at the bust with a bikini knot, knee-length circle skirts and emphasized waistlines.

Materials as light as sea foam. Subtle nuances from sand and pearl, to rust and copper, through to ochre yellow, nectarine, nude blush, coral, passion fruit, lagoon green, kiwi and raspberry. Ultra reflective with iridescent silk twill one-pieces, all-over thermosealed crystal embroidery on matching tops and pants, woven lurex. Lightweight leather undergoes new interpretations with metallic laminations for a laser-cut trench or t-shirt dress.

Japan’s largest airline group, will be introducing new uniforms for Cabin Attendants and Ground Staff. All Nippon Airways is delighted to reveal that the new uniforms will be designed by acclaimed fashion designer Prabal Gurung. The new uniforms will be worn by almost 10,000 ANA staff members from second half of 2014.

Prabal – who was born in Nepal – moved to the US to pursue his career in fashion, said, I am looking forward to unveiling my designs in the coming months and watching them fly throughout the world with ANA.

“The new uniform will pay homage to the history of the airline while incorporating a fresh and modern perspective. I have been hugely inspired by this project, particularly incorporating my own personal passion for luxury and glamour with that created by ANA’s [crew] during the flight experience,” he explained to WWD.

Chelsea Piers, 46 of Parsons’ top graduating fashion design students convened to present their final collections at the annual Parsons Fashion Show. In addition to showing off their hard-earned collections, many of the young designers were also in the running for the “Designer of the Year” titles. At a benefit following the runway show, Harim Jung and Kaye Applewaite were named womenswear designers of the year; Yunxiang Sharon Zhou was named menswear designer of the year; and Diana Woodside was named childrenswear designer of the year.

Mao Usami won the L’Oreal Professionel Award at Central Saint Martins’ BA graduate fashion show. A strong and varied offering from this year’s graduating students showcasing pastel to neons and more often wandered into homespun and crafty realms.

Womenswear designer Usami showcased a collection that was causal to the core and riffed on American sportswear and PE kits and showed us that socks are the new shoes – the way to wear them is too long at the toe so that they attempt to trip you up as you walk.
